In this video, I will show my experience using Project Farm’s Top Rated String Trimmer. If you don’t know who Project Farm is then I high recommend you check out his CZcams channel (linked below). When it comes to in depth and highly researched reviews, no one does it better than him.
The weed eater we are looking at today is the 60V MAX Brushless Cordless Battery Powered String Trimmer. This weed wacker has a brushless motor and accepts multiple Dewalt outdoor power tool attachments. My favorite feature about this trimmer is its start up torque. There is hardly any delay between pressing the trimmer and the head firing up. My other trimmers have a slight delay when firing the trigger but the Dewalt fires up almost instantly. Another thing I really love about this trimmer is the rubber handle, it is easily the best feeling handle out of all 3 of my string trimmers.
The one area this trimmer lacks in is its trimmer head. After reading multiple reviews and testing it myself, I came to the conclusion that the stock Dewalt head needed to be replaced. I upgraded the head to an Echo Speedfeed Trimmer head. This is my favorite trimmer head for 2 reasons. The first, is that it has a very solid build quality (much better than the stock Dewalt head). The second is that it is VERY easy to reload the string. It doesn’t require you do detach the head and manually respool the string. All you have to do is feed the line through the head, rotate it and will automatically spool the head for you.
That being said, this battery string trimmer is without a doubt, the best string trimmer I have ever used.

This Dewalt 60V trimmer has tons of power to tackle any yard chores, I have the version that accepts attachments and I have the roto-tiller attachment which is very taxing on a gas power head, the Dewalt 60V power head didn't have any issues running that tiller attachment....I have the string trimmer attachment, plus another straight shaft attachment that I keep a Grass Gator head on which has 3 plastic swivel blades on it for cutting heavy weeds and light brush that works very well also. Having high and low speed is nice, around my house I can use low and get everything trimmed, out around the irrigation ditch and back fence I use the Grass Gator head and high speed to tackle all the heavier weeds and brush and it does great. I have 3 batteries so I have no trouble getting all the yard chores done with that trimmer....I thought about getting a Dewalt battery powered mower but they're extremely expensive, and after wasting almost $700 on an Ego mower I won't bother with a battery powered mower for my yard. I do have the Dewalt 60V 16" chainsaw as well, it works very good, just have to keep a box of batteries to keep it going as its quite the battery hog, but it works very well, used it a couple years ago to cut down a walnut tree, other than having to wait for batteries to charge, the saw did extremely well given it was doing the job of a gas powered saw, and doing it very well....chains are easy to replace, and easy to adjust on that saw without tools. I haven't tried any of the other Dewalt lawn/garden tools, and probably won't, but if they work as good as the weed eater and chainsaw I'd recommend them over some of the other brands out there. Especially if you already have Dewalt tools with chargers and batteries.
Dried weed isn't that much of a challenge... Try tall and thick green grass. That's the real challenge.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use czcams.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I went dewalt because of their flex voltage 60v batteries. The dewalt 60v worm gear saw tears through anything as well as the 60v chainSawzall. 60v sawzall. Will get the 120vdc miter saw eventually
I have had a Echo a very long time and it came with that head that you are showing , It is by far the greatest !! Simple , fast to install fresh string and very durable ....
I have this very same model. I trim 1600' of fencing on one charge easily. I bought a second battery for even bigger jobs. One is charging while the other is working. Charges fast, too. I did swap out the bump-feed head for a Husqvarna T35 model when the original head just up and quit working. Big improvement with the Husq head. I now have several of the accessory attachments that work with this unit. Line trimmer, edger, brush cutter, and hedge trimmer. All of them work great. Super happy with this machine. No more loud, smelly gas engine!
I have the roto-tiller attachment as well as the others you mentioned...I think that tiller attachment is the most taxing on a power head, the gas power head even struggles with it at times, the Dewalt 60V power head has no trouble running that tiller attachment. Its a great yard tool...I also have the 60V 16" chainsaw that works extremely well too. I think Dewalt has a 60V pole saw attachment too.

I had a 40v Dewalt trimmer and the battery only lasted a year. Given the price of batteries, I couldn't justify keeping the trimmer when I had to spend $150 / year on batteries. A gas powered trimmer was far more efficient to operate. Maybe the Dewalt version here will be different.
These Flexvolt batteries seem to be better, but that's an issue regardless what brand you buy is battery life....at some point they will fail of course and hopefully they still sell them when that happens otherwise you are gonna have to trash everything and go to another battery platform. This is kind of why I don't really care to go with all battery stuff too. I have a gas trimmer power head with attachments, and the Dewalt 60V power head that accepts attachments so I can use attachments with either platform, but....the batteries kind of scare me because they're so expensive $200+ for one of those Flexvolt batteries.

I originally hated the idea of spending that much on a string trimmer and then still having to replace the head right away. But I went ahead and replaced the head with an Echo Speed Feed head…and then I replaced the rest of the Dewalt parts with parts from an Echo SRM-225. Now that I have replaced all the Dewalt parts with Echo parts, I LOVE IT! And it’ll last me over 20 years without having to spend $150 every time I need a new battery. It’s the perfect set up! Thanks for the advice on that mod! 😜

This trimmer is very powerful, I use it with the Ryobi tiller attachment and it doesn't slow down when pushed into the ground. Also, I had never had issues with the trimmer head.

I have the same tiller attachment I think. It works great with the Dewalt 60V power head....the gas power head will bog down with that tiller attachment, the Dewalt power head don't even care.
The trimmer has plenty of power even on the low setting for most trimming needs around the house...I like that it has 2 speeds as I can use high speed with the Grass Gator attachment for cutting brush and heavier weeds.

As Project Farm said, we use string trimmers to do work and the best way to compare them is by looking at their torque output. The DeWalt blows away the competition in that regard.

I always take a dry brush and clean the head vents off at the end of every trim. That's how they'll fail is the vent can get blocked and the motor will overheat
It has plenty of torque....I've used the Dewalt power head to run my roto-tiller attachment which stresses the gas power heads, and the Dewalt 60V power head didn't strain at all with that tiller attachment....I love that I can just put the battery in and get to work, and not have to deal with adding fuel and all the fuel related issues. I also have the Dewalt 60V 16" chainsaw that works extremely well also....used it a couple years ago to cut down a walnut tree that had died....it did the job of a gas chainsaw, the only thing is you gotta keep a box of batteries around to feed it, as its quite the battery hog, but it works extremely well.
I have had mine for about a year now, and I have bought four 9ah batteries for it. I can go for about 45 minutes of moderate trimming on each battery. There is a real art to learning how to balance cutting with battery usage with time spent, but with practice it pays off. I have a 12 Amp fast charger for it, and I can charge a battery as fast as I use one, so I can trim forever😂
Around my house I can use the low speed setting and get pretty much everything done that way, the only time I use the high speed is when I'm using the Grass Gator attachment and cutting thicker weeds and brush....I usually get about 10-15 minutes of battery usage, but that's with I think 3ah batteries.....I've had my trimmer and my 60V 16" chainsaw since they came out, and the batteries back then I think were only around 3ah or 4ah. They work fine for my needs...I have 3 batteries and can get all my trimming done quite easily usually on 1-2 batteries.
I have the roto-tiller attachment as well, that's the power hog, as is the chainsaw....but they don't get used very often anyways.
When I squeeze the trigger I would definitely want instant movement it’s one of the things that make it like gas. Great video 💪🏼💯

I purchased one shortly after the Proj Farm video came out. I also have the edger attachment. Both work great. I haven't yet had a problem with my trimmer head, but plan on replacing it soon.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare I've never had an edger before, but it's a beast, more than enough power, even on neglected edges at full depth. Even has enough power to chew up the concrete pretty well. It's a standard blade, I have the safety shield installed, and the speed and power clears that with no clogs. BTW, love the channel, great videos. Keep them coming.

I have this trimmer, works great. The dewalt head seems to work fine for me. It is heavy because of that big battery, but as mentioned is well balanced so doesn't seem so bad. I would like to have a strap like my old Stihl had.

I bought it based on Project Farm's review. We got a bid for $900 to clear the hill behind our house. I spent ~$350 on the trimmer and literally two hours of my time and I was done with it. Very happy to have saved the $550. We do have landscapers do work for us sometimes, but that $900 was over our budget. As long as I'm young and healthy and in need of exercise, doing it myself was a good solution.
I run the Echo 2620 and the Echo SRM225- they are dedicated trimmers. That said, they come with a guard on them. I take off that guard and add an Edgeit attachment to it which allows me to see where I am trimming as I have issues doing so without it. And, it also allows me to have a predetermined gap/thickness when I go to edge so its easier for me to edge the walkways in a straight line opposed to taking off the cover and turning the trimmer sideways and edging without a guard. I wonder if that Edgeit attachment can be added to that Dewalt trimmer?
Family just got the Ryobi string trimmer and it if fire!!. It also has interchangable batteries with the lawnmower we bought.

I use this trimmer with a professional head that takes 0.155" triangular line. You can bump up against brick or masonry and the line doesn't even shorten more than a few mm. The best part is the DeWalt has the torque to get'r done so you don't need a high-CC gas pro trimmer to use 0.155.
I didn't know there was a trimmer head for that size line that would fit a regular trimmer....I'll have to search around for one. I do have a Grass Gator head which uses 3 plastic swing away blades, but a heavier duty string trimmer head would be nice most of the time.

Definetly a solid trimmer! I'm sticking with my gas powered echo for now but for a homeowner the Dewalt is perfect especially if your invested in that platform

I have a 37.7cc stihl fs240 that I paid over $750 for and it doesn't have no where near the power this 60v dewalt has my brother has the 60v dewalt. So I went bought one I still have my gas stihl but when it comes to power my stihl doesn't compare! I've always been a gas person but when I saw that I'm about to go electric on most of my stuff. Only thing that is good about gas is you don't have to worry about batteries dying but then again if you got anuff batteries you ain't got to worry about that.
If you are doing lawn care for a business, yep stick to the gas stuff, but absolutely for a home owner the battery stuff ain't too bad, especially that Dewalt with the attachment capable shaft which is the one I have and it does great, even runs the roto-tiller attachment without any struggles.
I have the 20V one. It's a BEAST. I have 2 acres of land which is a little small for gas tools but a little to much for battery powered. I got the 20v one and a 9ah battery at a flea market and it's a tank. I love Dewalt.
Sounds like a toy to me. Either the weeeds at your place are thin or you just cut really often. Anyone who’s aware knows that these battery string trimmers only get about 15 minutes digging into thick green weeds and often times they just overheat and quit. You also make less power every minute that you’re using the battery tool. My Stihl FS 240 would destroy this dewalt. It would be like comparing a super car to the little Honda civic with the eBay exhaust.

@@weebfishing5439 There’s hardly any maintenance. Just have to run all the gas out of it before storage. And then choke and run it a few more times till the engine won’t even pop. That’s how you know all the fuels out. If electric tools work for you that’s ok too.
Dewalt should be paying you and Project Farm for testing out their tools. If I need a string trimmer I be getting myself a dewalt too.

This wasn't out when I bought my Milwaukee string trimmer, which at the time was much better than the 20V DeWalt one. So now I'm a Dewalt and Milwaukee household, lol.
Well, I got that Milwaukee trimmer, 9AH battery, and combo rapid charger for $250 on a fall sale, too good to pass up. The battery alone was 250.
I've also bought a couple other Milwaukee items since then too. Unfortunately no single tool brand makes 100% of what you need/want.
Make the brushless 12 in chainsaw an add to you OPE by DeWalt. Great value at the price and normally comes with a battery to add to the arsenal. Great little clean up saw and when your customer ask for a small "honey didn't do" job - take their money!
My next fave has to be the hand held lopper. I just got one and it damn sure beats cranking on pruners with your hand for an hour straight. Yes I named mind Cindy (thanks AvE)

I bought the Dewalt 60V string trimmer that is attachment capable, it works with my Troy Bilt and Ryobi attachments. The only attachment I have that would be questionable to use with this trimmer power head is the tiller attachment....after a trial run, I found the 60V power head has plenty of power to run the tiller attachment, of course you won't have very long battery run times doing so, but it can be done. I have 2 straight shaft heads, one has the regular string on it, the other one has a Grass Gator cutter head that has plastic cutting blades on it for cutting light brush and heavier weeds.
I have 3 of the Flexvolt Batteries, so I have no problem getting everything around my property trimmed....I used it in my yard today cutting down some pretty thick weeds/grass and was running it on the high speed setting mostly...after about 10 minutes of continuous use I still had 2 bars of battery left. Not too bad....I also have the Dewalt 16" 60V chainsaw, its a huge battery hog, but its nice to not have to deal with mixing fuel, or running an extension cord for the corded models. Just being able to grab the tool dropping a battery in, and getting to work is a huge time saver.

I have the 16" Dewalt 60V Chainsaw, yep it works great, its a battery hog, but it does a great job....more of a gas chainsaw replacement if you have enough batteries to keep feeding it LOL. I used mine to cut down a dead walnut tree a couple years ago, it worked very well, I'd only get about 10-15 minutes of run time with it, but it did great....I also found that by the time the battery was depleted so was the bar oil....so its kind of a battery/bar oil replacement at the same time setup, kind of like that.
Are you keeping the Milwaukee stuff or selling it since you're moving over to DeWalt?? Another banger of a video!

I like gator line with pre cut string on sthil heads. The fix cut heads. Best heads to use if you’re cutting thick stuff. I spent 6-7 years cutting grass and weed eating, it’s my profession. lol
What model of the echo speed feed head Yall recommend?
This trimmer plus a stihl km coupler and you can use kombi attachments instead, which I love using.
listened to your review and read your comment. IF you werent in lawn care and just doing it for your home would you consider a replacement head that you load string pieces so you have 4 cutting at the same time like a pivotrim MaxPower PivotTrim
If you just use it for home use, one of those quick load string heads like you are talking about would be great, as long as you aren't cutting around fences, especially chainlink....those types of fences just tear the string right out of those types of heads....otherwise they work just fine for home use for sure. Another option is a Grass Gator trimmer head with the plastic swinging blades, the blades typically swing away when they strike an object, rather than break or come off.
I use greenworks 48v (2x24) 16 inch and i am really satisfied.
Anytime Im in the market for an item. I check to see if Project Farm did a comparison to see which one I need to get.

Hey George, do you know if the speed feed 400 fits the ego product line? My string trimmer head is starting to stick some, even after cleaning it up, and as you know a sticking trimmer head is pretty darn irritating after a while.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare I have the EGO 16" with line iq w/ powerload and the EGO 15" bump w/ powerload / the rotary scissors are attached to a separate unit the ego string trimmer attachment (that string trimmer head is garbage!) and I put the scissors on that so I can switch between rotary scissors and the edger attachment 😊🤙🏾

The vibration from the 20V trimmer takes its toll on my arm.

Honestly, thank you for addressing the issue; and mentioning the best fix out there for it. But.... This is a DeWalt power-tool. You shouldn't have to immediately replace the head to get the most performance out of it. Also, it's the head! Not some minor thing like the handle, or the switch being a bit loose. I'm subscribed to *PF* and don't recall him ever mentioning this issue. But a DeWalt power-tool shouldn't require _immediately_ replacing a main component before you can use it. If this was a cheap Hart, or Warrior trimmer; okay that would be a different story. It would even be understandable. But a DeWalt?? That's not right.
I went for the EGO with line IQ instead. Overall it was just a better package for me with all of the features it provides and it has much better battery life while providing more than enough power

The dewalt also thought smart about a big complaint I had about other electric trimmers they put the freaking motor on the top so it’s not torquing my wrist on the hand I hold the handle with.

On any 60v tool on Dewalt always divide the number by 3 and u get the amh for 60v tools. The mah on a 6 AH 60 would be 2AH on a 60v tool and would be a 6 AH on a 20v tool

Props for wearing shorts. When I was younger I had to steristrip a few places on my legs from hitting some metal piping I didn't see and the plastic I assume shot out and reminded me to get pants on.

Sup griz! This trimmer is awesome, its held up well over the past year. What battery tools are you running now? I ask because its best to stick with the platform your already with due to cross capability of the batteries
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Nice to know you still like it. We’ll be upgrading from a gas powered. Also got handed down a battery powered Ryobi trimmer, but the unit as well as the batteries are crap so I don’t recommend.
Like you, I’ve got an assortment of Milwaukee and DeWalt tools so know all about the non-universal battery compatibility struggle 😅

I have to agree with torque test channel that the 9ah battery is the way to go. Iv had mine for a few years now. It’s still a little annoying to have to swap batteries mid cut, and it’s a little worrisome about getting batteries wet. I will say this in order for this to be an option for commercial use, you would need several batteries and have a way to charge the many batteries so you don’t need more batteries. Also you would have to be ready to get those tools and batteries wet All the time. A little rain has never stopped a groundskeeper but it would sure ruin a fine piece of electronic equipment. I’m all for battery powered but I’m not entirely sure battery powered is for everything. For your own use though- this is a good enough piece of equipment. I wanted to buy a gas trimmer and I’m glad I didn’t. Now that I have an extra battery!!
“Shout out to Ron” 😉 Try a Milwaukee trimmer, they have amazing startup like a gas IMO. Part of the reason I couldn’t get on the ego trimmer, is the startup was very annoying to me. To slow the way I use string trimmer.

I just ordered this exact Dewalt weed trimmer 60 V way !! better than the 20 V because the 60 V has the motor at top by the battery versus the 20 V has it down by the string head gets dirty with a bunch of crap not allowing you to rinse it After use

I have the EGO, it is heavy but they have great battery that last very long (and that is why it's heavy)
Try their 20V pruner! It rocks!
I owned this trimmer for a few months. Got rid of it for the 20v because the 60v will literally send rocks through siding if given a chance.
If I’m not mistaken, the battery relatively small. 111Wh, the stock ego battery is 140, and even harts 40v trimmer is 140Wh. All these tool brands are really scalping us on the batteries.
how would you compare it to the EGO? Everyone seems to love those things
I like the dewalt string trimmer better than the Ego string trimmer however I like egos total lawn tool line up better than dewalts… if that makes sense lol
I have 1.3 acres and use a trimmer almost every day. About a month ago I bought the EGO. It has a power boost button for when I’m in extra heavy weeds. I have the larger battery and can cut for at least 50 minutes. Heavy, yes. But well balanced.

Good video George, however I’m loyal to my Ego products, they’ve never let me down. A word of advice when buying DeWalt batteries, always buy the 5aph or higher, anything less and your warranty is good for a substantially lower time frame.

My ego battery charger doesn't work anymore I wish I would've gone with DeWalt
