  • How good is a DeWalt 20v String Trimmer? I got one of these electric weedeaters at Home Depot, and today I'm going to unbox it and review it!
    Order this electric string trimmer here: amzn.to/3x9R5FI
    And pick up an 8 amp hour battery: amzn.to/3KKsvPf
    These little battery powered trimmers are very handy and don't make as much noise as a gas-powered string trimmer does. But do they have enough power to cut through thick grass? Let's find out!
    Welcome to Garage Story!

    Put an Echo Speed Feed Head 400 on that and you will love it much more. I've been doing that for 5 years. Also the string you use makes the experience much better if you buy commercial quality string like the Husqvarna Titanium XPro 0.95 inch. Always use on High speed because the switch will wear out if you keep on switching back and forth from low to high speed. It's variable speed trigger anyway, so you don't need low speed that much. A $270 Echo or Stihl string trimmer will last forever though.

    Remove the battery before you fold it so when you fold it without the battery attached, it’s snaps into place on the guard.

    If you remove the battery before folding the string trimmer, the battery end will push past the guard and clip into place, holding it collapsed. Thats what "dewalt was thinking with that design".

  • @alt7244
    @alt7244 Před měsícem +1

    The instructions say put the handle on the higher side like you changed it to. Also maybe flip the direction of the curve of the handle so it curves up.

      @garagestory  Před měsícem +1

      It seems to have the best balance with the handle curved down. I think the best point would be just a little further down than it reaches, actually.

    Im wondering if I should by an 8ah XR, 6ah Flexvolt of 9ah flexvolt. I only have 1 battery 5ah of dewalt at the moment, and im looking to upgrade my collection for Drill/Impact as well. Going lighter is handy, but going heavier make a better runtime. Im wondering how many minutes a DCB606 would do ? My 5ah XR lasted 16mins at high speed on thick ditch

    • @garagestory
      @garagestory  Před měsícem +1

      If I didn’t already have several plain 20V batteries, I would have more seriously considered getting the 60V trimmer. If I already had flex volt batteries, it would make sense to buy the 60v version.
      I think for what I’m doing, the 20V trimmer will serve me well

    • @naokmoon1487
      @naokmoon1487 Před měsícem +2

      @@garagestory for me 20V is plenty of power and i guess is more battery friendly for runtime. Im just hesitating if flexvolt battery since it is 15 cell instead of 10 cell has an advantage over XR battery to use on a 20V trimmer which is non-flex (for battery run time). But that being said. A 6ah flex cost the same as an 8ah Standard XR. I guess i would be better with an 8ah xr for more runtime

    • @garagestory
      @garagestory  Před měsícem +2

      Yeah, I’m not sure how all those batteries compare. Like you said, I would think a 8ah 20v would last longer than a 6ah flex volt being used on a 20v trimmer. But I’m no expert!

      @@garagestory yes youre right. Now im wondering if i should get on amazon 2-packs of 6ah (DCB206) or a single 8ah (DCB208). I know 8ah is extra amp hour with no extra size added. I already got the 5ah battery (DCB205) which last maybe 20-40mins depending of the apllication. Do you think the new cells 21700 inside the 6ah would make a huge difference in runtime if i want to run at high setting (because i have a ditch). For DIY, i guess these 2-packs is the best value but between a 5ah and 6h, theres alot of size and weight difference , but have no idea on the runtime difference, since it still only 1ah ahead of a 5ah battery. Maybe you have a clue on it ?

  • @richardkaiser7240

    The 20 volt version is pretty light duty. 60 volt is much better but batteries don’t last.

    • @garagestory
      @garagestory  Před 2 měsíci +2

      If I already had 60v batteries, I would have been more likely to go that way. Unfortunately the initial investment for the 60v version plus batteries would have been probably 2 or 3 times the cost.

    I have that trimmer. Take off the guard and use the heaviest battery you have and it’s much better balanced. Don’t let the string get too long and run at full speed for extended periods. You will fry the motor.
