    Nissan has a long history of winning race cars, one just has to Google "Nissan racing cars" and you're inundated with race livery GTRs, the wild R-390 and this year's new FWD GTR Lemans prototype.
    It's time to add a Versa to that list.
    Hear me out, when properly set up these compact hatches can be wildly fun on the track. Check back next week for a full Street and Track review of this very car!
    Until then, enjoy Johnathan's car story!

    I have driven lots of sports cars and fun to drive cars. I have a 2008 Versa hatchback with a 6- speed and it is legit fun to drive.

    I'm to broke to do anything with my versa but I want to. It's probably the funnest car I've ever driven, I've done so much shit with it my tires have almost no treads. It light and low so it's easy to really throw around and power slide without fear of flipping.

    I love this car. Best Versa ever lol
    But I only have one question, wouldn't an SR20DE(+T hehe) have made a better engine swap?
    Then again, probably would cost too much.
    Still amazing for an economy car. And still big enough to a convenient family car xD I love it

    • @NeilABullock
      @NeilABullock  Před 8 lety +1

      I'm really not sure about that, it may have but I believe he went with that motor is because it was, in theory, an almost perfect swap without having to change too much and it still has to be his daily.
      Once again, not 100% sure, just speculating.
      I'll ask Johnathan lol

    • @jburchardt
      @jburchardt Před 8 lety

      +bcredeur97 Thanks! And sorry for the late response. This is John the owner, I've got some video's of me Autocrossing and tracking it on my channel as well. A SR20 would have been pretty cool. I went with the MR20DE because its pretty much a direct swap. To the point that the stock ECU will adjust to it on its own. It was a lot easier and cheaper to do. I'd love to do another more radical swap in the next couple years. I went this route because I blew up the original motor and its my daily. So two weeks later I was back on the road with the new engine. Here's a link to a post on Reddit detailing what happened: www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/3njbvi/what_do_you_mean_you_shouldnt_put_a_nissan_versa/

    • @bcredeur97
      @bcredeur97 Před 8 lety

      Kat_Hat hey John! Will check out your channel for sure! You may remmeber me, im the guy with the little old white Corolla (I call it "The White Turd" haha) so we are in a similar situation in regards to not having the right car for the job, though you sort of fixed yours. lol
      I find it crazy that the Stock ECU works with a completely different motor! Who ever would of thought haha. But yeah that was definitely way more convenient to just drop that thing right in and you certainly made the right choice. doing a manual swap too was probably the best decision you could have made. (I want to do this so bad on the white turd! But I believe it's really expensive. The AT in there now actually rattles a little sometimes so maybe if it dies I'll consider it[my luck it wont because Toyota LOL])
      Do you have anything new or different from this video for the upcoming event in ~35 days or so? (I'll be there, with new wheels and tires :P)

    • @jburchardt
      @jburchardt Před 8 lety +1

      I thought that was you, I should have listened to myself and checked your account before I posted lol.
      The two motors are from the same family and the same externally. The MR20DE is stroked different to gain the extra displacement. The oil pan and pump are pretty different too, much more robust looking. The car has actually always had a 6 speed gear box, it was mated with the new motor. Again, direct swap. I put a new clutch in while we had it apart lol.
      I've actually done quite a bit since then. Coil overs is probably the biggest thing I did. I also put in Polyurethane control arm bushings along with some other stuff. I'll be relearning the car a lot this season. I'm glad to hear you'll be coming out again!

    • @bcredeur97
      @bcredeur97 Před 8 lety

      Kat_Hat wow! That makes me wonder what other things you could do to an engine without replacing or reprogramming the ECU haha. (higher compression ratio pistons and just throw higher octane gas at it? lol)
      Coilovers sound wonderful! Im sure it will completely change how the car drives. How big of a difference does putting polyurethane bushings on everything make? They cost considerably more and they (theoretically) last longer, but do they add up to a significant difference?

    I have a 2012 versa sedan. It has a 5 spd manual and a 1.6. Could I swap a 2.0 or a different engine for around $1000? Or any modifications I can do to these slow engines? It's okay enough but 0-30 is too quick to shift. 30-60 second shift. 60-almost 90 is the 3rd speed. Should I get taller tiers?

    • @TKD187
      @TKD187 Před rokem

      I mean swapping the engine out seems like a lot of work I would just start with airflow like exhaust, cold air intake, turbos, and work your way up to more fuel like bigger injectors ect . As long as you have a s*** ton of airflow and a lot of gas running through it you can have your pretty fun car for a lot less money vs paying for a whole new engine but if you got it like that then yeah if you do it right and put a supercharger instead of turbo's I've seen on certain forms people were making 400 horsepower in these little cars . Really depends on what you're going for like a daily driver or track car, for a daily driver I was just upgrade the engine like I was talking about
