Ayyye there’s a whole community of broke bois with me let’s get it
what do you say about Jetta 2018 8-speed Automatic transmission
Not really. I'm not Broke, I just choose to spend wisely buy looking up a more efficient fuel economy car rather than getting a sport car. I'm here tho
I'm not even that broke but 1 gallon gas costs 14 dollars here in the netherlands :(
i just joined the broke boi community

just to add, the 1999-2005 Toyota Echo can get around 40MPG. I found one with 140,000 km's for $1500.
I just saw one 2 weeks ago but I wish they had a larger than a 11 gallon tank
James A. Not necessary in all honesty, they’re super fuel efficient anyways😅
I mean I have a 96 Accord and I get anywhere between 32 and 35 MPG highway and it has a 17 gallon tank. so the total range of the echo and my car is still the same I'm just wondering why the limit is around 500 miles on a tank for most economical cars. I've got my Accord to 541 miles till it stuttered and died. Might as well take the spare tire out and make an extra fuel cell to pump extra gas into the tank when the fuel gets low.
Yeah, that’s an interesting take. Not a bad idea 🤔 however, 440 mile per tank isn’t bad at all.
My 2012 Dodge Avenger gets a lousy 330 miles, about
I know it's not bad it's about getting it better I'm just not a fan of driving down the highway and opening gas guru or GasBuddy to find the closest cheapest gas. I make 900+ mile drives a couple of times in this car per year and I only have to fill up once in the middle haha. I just wish cars in the 90s had more than four or 5 gears
When gas prices were 1.5 a gallon a few months ago, I was looking for a car that vroom vroom. Now, I am enlightened, and am looking for a car that goes boom boom-
in my pockets
I got a car that goes vroom vroom. Now, my pockets are doomed, very doomed😂
Money for gas. Money for mods. Money for dreams. Money is gone.
Moding a vehicle will lower it's value. It's fine if you are the end user, but don't expect that someone will want to buy your mods and pay you more than the vehicle would be worth if it was OEM parts. There is a reason why the tuner scene from the 90s died out. People put thousands of Dollars into these vehicles and never got any of that money back and found it near impossible to find a buyer for their vehicle. Other tuners want to tune the car themselves and normal people want the vehicle with factory OEM parts.
For sure, that should be a given. I recommend if you are modifying a car, keep all the stock components just Incase.
Had a 99.5 Jetta tdi great car maxed 53.2 mpg easy to work on never threw codes. Ran veggie oil for a while. The seals on the injector pump swells when you make the switch, so if you're thinking of doing that, swap the seals for vitol
A 2002 Toyota Corolla CE has been in my family since new. First it was my Great grandmother's, then my grandmother's and now my older brother's.
Super helpful, thanks!
My brother's 2008 Ford Focus automatic tranny got 37 mpg on long trips. He loved that car. Paid $2500 with 125,000 miles when it was 11 years old. Back before Ford cars went to their junky 6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission and electric power steering , rather than normal hydraulic power steering.
The older TDI is a harder find at least for me. I would like one of those.
I love you man truly your doing great and good for the community.

I agree. As a high school student I don’t care about looks. I fuel efficiency! This video was very educational for me. Thanks!
Thank you for making an MPG video that doesn’t suck!
Appreciate that 🙏
I had a 97 Ford Escort with higher side wall tires and I got 42MPG highway. I also had an 88 chevy nova 4cyl 5 speed, If I kept it under or at 60mph I would get just over 50 MPG during two mile trips.
Thx man
If you get a rear flat on the side of the road how do you change the tire? On the insight
355,000 miles on my 05 Jetta Wagon TDI 5speed. Paid $2,000 usd, and it gets 47mpg+ on the highway. Spot on info in this video. Still runs great. I highly reccomend liquimoly oil to anyone that buys a tdi
That’s what I’m talking about man!!
People don’t believe me when I say stuff like that. It’s possible! Especially if you take care of them as they age.
how many mpg only in city driving? Is it a 1.9 PD TDI?
Where I live, you cant find a tdi that isnt clapped out and has less than 300k miles for less than 3k. I am thankful to have a clean 04 5 speed tdi
Look outside your city. You may have to drive an hour away.
Probably the Honda Insight. Cause it looks funny
I have a 1995 Geo Metro. When I'm hammering the peddle on low pressure in tires, I've gotten 35 mpg. Mixed driving, 40 mpg. The best I've gotten is 45, I will not lie to you.
Granted, the engine has 260,000 miles on it, and burns oil, but still. 45 ain't much worse than what it was new.
what do you say about VW Jetta 2018 8-speed Automatic transmission ?
Ayyy good job for me then!! I’m 14 years old about to be 15 soon and my mom said she will give me her 2003 Ford Focus when I turn 16!!
thanks for this
No problem. Ill have a video of fuel efficient cars under 5k coming out pretty soon.
If you do a video for cars under 5 grand, I bought a 2014 Hyundai Accent 138 horse power, 1.6 liter (bank repo) for 4 grand with 63000 miles on it as a commuter car and I average 43 to 46 miles per gallon. I now have 110,000 mile on it and still runs strong with oil changes every 5 to 7 thousand miles. I love this car. You can check out youtube to find out how to change the batteries and were to get replacement batteries on the cheap for the Honda Insite. That's what I did to learn how to change the batteries on a prius. I would go for the honda insite or the prius.
To bad the Hyundai Direct injection engines from 2011 and newer in Kia and Hyundai develop a ticking noise(piston slap) and fail 15,000 miles later.
@@MyLifeThai371 thanks for replying to my comment 3 years later. I now have 190,000 on the car with no "ticking" noises and still running strong with no problems. My son had an azera with 170,000+ miles on it that developed the "ticking" noise that you're talking about and still put another "25,000 to 30,000 miles on it then traded it in. The azera was a 2013
@@mikemee4765 2013 was the year with the most complaints. Just last week outside the post office was the first time I walked by one of those Elantras with the ticking noise. It was crazy how loud that car was just idling there. It sounded terrible.
You can get a nissan micra with 50 mpg for 2k
I owned a 2003 Ford focus with the z tec for years good car until the clutch went out they wanted like 1200 bucks to fix it about what I bought the car for so I sold it for 500 bucks I miss it though kinda wish I just would just got it fixed
If you want a good consumption, the diesel is the best, cars with tdi, hdi or light weight diesels have more than 40mpg, for example: Citroen saxo 1.5d, seat arosa, the best is the wv lupo 1.2tdi that it get’s 70mpg
Did a ALH TDi swap in a MK1 golf, its a little torque monster and can sip fuel for days.
I dont want a diesel because they have a hard time running in freezing temperatures
I bought a group metro back in 93 I drove from sandiego to Florida on only 80 bucks no shittin
Damn, that's crazy. Normally that would be a 300-400 dollar trip
Geo Metro
any suvs/wagons in this mpg range? I know of the ford escape hybrid but nothing else
Nissan rasheen
Just got rid (through insurance loss) a Ford focus zx3 2.0l zetec auto avg 32-35 hwy/27city still at 308k miles....I miss it already
I dig the Ford Focus, it’s insane how reliable they are. Hopefully you can get another reliable car next.
2008-2009 vw Jetta sport wagon tdi (no DEF) can make 50+ and you get a lot more space than any another car give you with this mpg.) you know something similar let us know.
(Oh yes you could get panoramic roof ,tan interior ,amaizing view (red color look crazy on GTI rims !) iconic car .
I've owned two cars on this list a manual 99 Carolla and currently own a 2000 TDI Beetle 5 speed. Keep the rust away and the diesel will out last them all especially with a manual. Jetta, Golf and Beetle built on the same platform.
Also old Audi A4, A6 and A3 has the same PD engine which can run forever
I had to look to see when this was produced. I live in the same general area and the cars mentioned aren't exactly thick on the ground so even finding several of them will be a trick. AND, a couple of the cars are being sold by curbstoners (dealers pretending to be private parties), so any price reduction of these examples may not get them to $2K.
And my last advice to anyone reading this, try to avoid the automatic transmissioned cars as they are slow and not as fuel efficient as the manual versions of these cars.
Howard Kerr so, right off the back, I found 3 metros. But, some may be a tad tricky, still very possible. Also, you are 100% correct about the manuals. The older automatics were not as advanced as today’s and they did sacrifice fuel economy.
why does everyone exclude the vw rabbit diesel pickup?
Thanks
I drive my 01 Corolla cross az weekly relieves miles on my nice car great spare car
Another Corrola fan!
It truly is, I may need to grab one to daily drive instead of my 15mpg mustang 😂
If I stretched it my 2003 Jetta could get maybe 1200km per tank, avg 900 per tank
Get a moped to ride on days with good weather. 50-70mpg
I have a 2002 golf MK4 pdtdi and it gets around 50 mpg combined
i like the seat material on the toyota corolla 2003
In insight is showing poor milage due to the aged battery. $1800 and it will go back up to 60
Thank you vm for this list
No problem man! But, what does vm stand for?
i mean thank you very much for this list
Has anyone ever cut out the wheel wells on an Insight so it looks like a normal car?
They are caps and come off.
The body is shaped like that for ultimate low drag. It’s a no compromises mpg car. Style wasn’t even a consideration.
I have a Mazda 3i 2006 and I average 32 mpg
If sold that cheap.. get ready to invest a lot more in them.. especially the 2000 plus listed.
Mpg?
'01-03 Prius?
Mk2 VW Turbodiesels get pretty good mileage and are old enough to be excempt from tax in many places.
Question y'all which websites do y'all use to find these cars?
I use FB market place
@@AutoMotivate Okay thanks
What’s the website 1:23?
I own a mazda 323Astina. Not the most attractive car no but a reliable car none the less. Has a fuel drink rate bout 6-7L per 100km, maybe more. All and all very happy with the car
I think that is roughly 27mpg. Not bad, though. Reliability is really what is important, glad you are happy though 💪
AutoMotivate
Cheers, you too 👍
Geo Jizm
Difference between the TDI and the other turds is it actually has a soul. Turbo diesel sounds awesome and a significant amount of power can be easily gained cheap
Yeah. Until you realize the government PROHIBITS driving your vehicle in certain cities if it doesn't comply with antipollution standards. Then there come the additional taxes for owning a vehicle that contaminates the air. So, you end up paying more and driving less, which makes a diesel pointless.
@@m3technologies236 I live in the Midwest where there are often no emissions or vehicle tests or inspections of any kind even registering as a resident and don't go to California or all over the country so would make no difference to me
@@Farmeroutwest Yep. I have no intention of ever going to California. One of my buddies visited California a few years ago and they charged him $45 for 3 hours of parking. Fuck California and their measly $115,000/year average salary doesn't mean shit, when it costs $3500 for a 1 bedroom apartment and 13.6% state income tax in some of the cities. They can keep their shitty accomadations and I will keep my money.
Grey civic in the video a ricer would be asking 3500
How does a car’s age impact the mpgs? Will the fact that most of these cars are from the early 2000s matter?
So, the reason these cars are in the 2000s is because the price bracket I put them in,
AutoMotivate Oh, I meant how will the fact that these are older cars impact gas mileage? Didn’t mean to ask about price range
Just the wear and tear on the engine.
As the cars engine gets older, grime builds up, and pulleys get a bit harder to turn. All that friction plays a roll in gas mileage. However, it’s not terribly significant.
Did you buy the Focus?
You know there is something wrong with the focus when they give you a special first cash
DJ Stender sometimes, or the seller don’t know how to sell. Besides that, the focuses are around this price point
@@AutoMotivate I agree
bro was ahead of his time
Just drove my beater 2000 Jetta gas 1100km for 100$ CAD and made 550$ car cost me 500$
So you mean... around 2k...
why sedan? the wagon gets the same MPG.
I love how you dont waist 50% of video time with "hello guys! Its be again, your favorite something something" bullshit
Sleek american plz
Your mpg numbers are way off, especially on the metro and Insight
Some people have gotten 60-70 highway mpg in the Insight. The average is probably around 55 combined mpg.
of course the 2000 jetta has great gas mileage because it diesel it doesn't use gas
Lol my Audi TDI 150hp with careful driving averages 70mpg and never seen it below 50
Damn I have to tell u my 99 1l Opel Corsa can run 2000km with the full tank...
Best is AUDI a2 1.2 tdi 100mpg
Saturn s series can get up to 45 and they are really reliable
This list is extremely outdated. About every 90s car I see today is rusted out and on its last gasp. It would be very rare to find any of these cars that are not missing sections of body panels to rust, less than 200k on the odometer or not pissing or burning oil that requires you rebuild the entire engine to stop up leaks. Needs a list of mid 2000s - mid 2010s. Granted they may not make it below $2000.
If you can still find cars from the 70s in okay condition, you can find these in decent condition. Just my 2 sense. I added ads for a reason. You can not expect much from a $2,000 car, anyways.
Jetta 2014 tdi 150 hp 237tq

It still uses fuel.. 😂
so a geo prizm has same motor and transmission as a toyota corolla???
That’s right! Something a lot of people don’t know, which can lead to people like you getting a great deal on a very reliable car.
@@AutoMotivate yes... do you have any other car brands or models you know of... the Geo is to old to use for working gig jobs...i currently have a 2005 altima with 2.5 l ..looking for something better on gas..like 26 plus city... maybe a scion...which i also heard is toyota... thanks
@@roadstar499 My co-worker bought his 2005 Nissan Altima brand new and ran it to 335,000 miles without sticking any money into it, except for changing the transmission fluid every 50,000 miles. I saw a 2005 Mustang 4.0L with 327,000 on youtube. I bought my 2005 Mustang 4.0L new and it now has 174,000 miles. 2005 was an amazing year for automotive reliability! To bad my Mustang has always only gotten 21-22 highway mpg, due to the low geared rear end in them.
@@MyLifeThai371 now i i looking for a cr that gets 30 plus on average...lol but altima is reliable so far after driving it 5k miles..
4:55 did he just say a turbo diesel is easy to work on?
unfortunately yes
He truly has no clue.
Sadly all Americans want now are big gas guzzling pickup truck and large SUVs, almost all American cars are being removed from production. Even the Japanese SUVs are getting larger every year. Were going back to the 70s and 80s era of land barges.
Yeah, it’s pretty lame. Soon, electric cars are going to take over the streets.
On of my next videos I’ll be talking about reliability midsize suv, subject I haven’t really hit yet. Not everyone likes 4 bangers, though.
AutoMotivate This is why I’m staying with older models , less gadgets, no touch screens, no radars , less of everything really , don’t need that crap . When I do upgrade to a newer car it will be full electric.
Electric cars are great but the batteries are still not on point with my needs. Living in the north of Canada, the winters are cold and the heater sucks the batteries dry pretty quick.
@@geluix69 you are right man. But, the tech is getting better and better very quick. But, older cars is where its at. Im currently saving up for an NB Miata. Like you said, they are simple.
@@geluix69 Yep. My co-worker bought a brand new Tesla in 2021 and he said it gets half the mileage during the winters on long drives than it does in summer. :( This is in North Dakota.

If my channel continues to grow, I’ll think about grabbing one. I actually like the newer models, too, for some reason.
@@AutoMotivate Newer models are awesome. I drove the 2016 version (I think) when I was learning to drive and it was awesome. They're not the fastest things in the world but they're comfortable, reliable and relaxing to drive. 👍
ᑭIKIᑎ corollas are the bottom of the line for Toyota. They are reliable, good on gas, and practical. But, they aren’t fast and the cheapest on Toyota’s line up. Yet, they do last a long time.
I avg 57 mpg on my 2010 prius. Like actual mileage. None of these cars are doing that. Not to mention my Prius isn't a clown car.
Not to hate, a Prius is closer to a clown car than any on this list. However, priuses are bad ass. But, you won’t be able to find a decent one under 2k. If it is, then you may need to change the batteries
My favorite is the Corolla
Ford focus 5 sp is a great first car. Tough as fuck. I knew a kid with one that had 200k Miles and he wanted his parents to buy him a new car so he tried to kill the focus. The thing just would not die. Rev limiter everywhere

Dude I’m trying to save money while driving, not spending money on transmission, control arms, exhaust, filters, AC, etc.
So go buy yourself a 2019 Prius.
AutoMotivate that’s not the point. I’m saying you could save on money with these cars, but the potential damage they might have because of their use over the years might be more of a liability than gas at that point.
