    I have been a Yes fan since around 1973 and saw them several times in times past. Difficult as it is to admit, they really do come across as a tribute band now. There are no original members left since Chris passed. The old magic is gone. Please, guys, it's time to retire.

    • @babarishka
      @babarishka Před 8 lety +2

      Steve has been my number 1 guitar guru since the 70's, and Yes my favorite band, but I totally agree with you. I would count White and Howe as original members, certainly re: their prime days in the 70's, but yeah, it's time for them to hang it up, IMO. But then, we aren't in their shoes: if you've done nothing else but play in a band for the majority of your life, it's gotta be hard to give it up - kinda like admitting that you're old and tired, your life is over, etc.. Obviously, poor Keith Emerson couldn't handle it. Mortality is a bitch. If it was me, I'd gladly give it up in favor of hanging out with family and friends, doing other projects, doing volunteer work for different causes, writing a book, giving lessons to a few hand-picked people, etc.

    benoit david's voice actually sounds closer to horn's; and andersons; but he did'nt look the part; and he had to stop due to a resperatory problem. davison's voice is good; but a bit too soft for some tracks.

  • @davidmcgeoch6178
    @davidmcgeoch6178 Před 8 lety +10

    I thought the show was great, they played with lots of energy. I don't get what people have against Davison, his voice is ideal for Yes music and with respect to the negative commentators you can't judge a a band watching a clip filmed on a person's phone.

    • @davidhughes4448
      @davidhughes4448 Před 7 lety

      You have a point, David, but that same person's cell phone captures the timing mistakes and wrong notes as handily as a 64-track digital studio. I'll admit I'm old and jaded now, but you should have heard Yes with the real lineup back in the early-to-mid '70s. This current Yes (and I've seen them live, too) is an average, fatiguing tribute band. ARW is the band of the future.

      +donutcookiepie hes right, when yes made their best stuff they were young and playing to the limits of their abilities, theres no way at their age they can still do it. apart from Anderson whos an alien! once they split up in 1980 they never quite regained that almost psychic way of playing together. they were on another planet.

      I wouldn't go as far to say he was a trainwreck, but something's going on. I last saw Yes in 2010, and he was drumming like he was in pain even then- slower tempos, limited movement, simplified fills, etc. By contrast, Neil Peart is almost as old, and still plays everything note-for-note. He was perfect when I saw Rush last year, even with his tendinitis. So I don't know what's up with Alan White. I still love the drumming he's put down on tape, and his '70s and '80s live drumming is so energetic.

    I always give my personal opinion whether people like it or not. Being an audience recording it is hard to tell what is what. But I am surprised that they decided to do Drama. It was an album that was never meant for such a high singing voice. Just from this video, I would say that it does not sound very good. Davison has a beautiful high voice, but this was written to be played by Trevor Horn, who sings at a lower and more powerful range. I wanted to like this, but I have to be honest, I think they should of picked another yes album. Hopefully the tales from topographic ocean stuff will sound better vocally. The music sounds fine.
