If you want to sing along:
I te timatanga ko te kupu, i te Atua te kupu, ko te Atua anō te kupu
E tō mātau Atua, tō mātau tāwharautanga
Tukua mai tō wairua hei parahau mō mātau
Penapenatia mai rā tēnei huihuinga tangata
Tukua mātau kia piri i te waikanaetanga
    Chorus
Nōu rā te hōnore, te korōria
Ki a Koe ngā kupu whakamānawa
Kia whakapaingia Tō ingoa tapu, e Ihoa
Kia tau ki tēnei rauika, tō wairua mākohakoha
Tukua mai tō aroha hei maīaorere mōku
    Back to chorus...
    Āmine

I just found this today. I know this tune. Give Thanks. I don't understand the words in this version but this really swept me of my feet. I needed to hear this so much today, and remind myself of the some things I need to give thanks for. I only wish this was recorded with better equipment, because in my opinion, the quality of the video doesn't do any justice to such a superb and spectacular performance. Wish I could watch this on HD.

@hallrc No. Kapa Haka groups don't often use the actual lyrics of a song by translating them. They just use the tune. However, this tune fits really well for this item, because they're giving thanks to God.

I too was at this competition, i watched and enjoyed every performance that hit that stage, and Te Piringa were purely awesome. However, they did not in any way deserve 1st place. Kapahaka is way to modern and is destroying the tradition put forth by those who walked before our time. Alot of schools deserved to win this comp, but, Te Piringa were not one of those roopu. Arohamai.

agree and disagree....if you listen to all the haka groups from back in the daze they were melodious and harmonised well.....unlike now...haka groups harmonise, but they shout the heck out of the waiatas to see whos the loudest, sometimes killing the wairua of the performance, but yeah this performance was sweet....

  • @TouNiiti

the wairua and ka mohio ratou i te ngako o to ratou nei waiata, then ka taea ratou ki te capture the 'essence'. as for the Pari. it never has been traditional!! our tupuna didnt have wool (and elastic shoulder straps for that matter) untill the pakeha came!....... Plus, women went bare chest most of th time! yup and the harmonys are part and parcel of kapahaka . if you dont have them then im sorry to say, you dont have much of a chance.
