- Yes, someone out there still uses them!
My computer was rapidly running out of space, naturally the solution is to add another hard drive, trouble is the only spare hard drive I had was of the IDE type, and the motherboard on my computer takes only SATA. The solution: Use a converter kit. - Věda a technologie
Wish they would come out with a SATA to IDE+controller... like change a sata port on the mother board to a ide port
Good video... I didn't even know this was an option but I'll keep this in mind. :)
The hard drive you added was previously used with an HP computer, and the HP RECOVERY partition has the HP software that was on the computer it was previously in.
Nice! Is it possible to go the other way? SATA HDD in IDE computer for retro usage?
Absolutely, the adapter I got can be used that way.
Try plugging a molex power into the hard drive I use them and you have to still power the hard drive aswell as the adapter.
What u did in the BIOS to make the drive appear in my computer?
The jumper setting on the HDD please.
You're not alone- i only own 2 sata internal desktop hard drives, and don't use either of them!
What is your plan when this HDD is full too?
both would make interesting videos!
and where did you find a molex power connection on a modern sata motherboard?
Sonny Champneys power comes from the psu not the mobo
And modern hdds use molex
I generally don't like these hard drive adapters because they don't always stay connected drive properly and just become quite annoying after a while. You may also wish to wipe that hard drive with Darek's Boot and Nuke (dban) which will securely remove all data from it.
Where to buy?
3TB sata rev3 drives are $89 at microcenter
those adapters are dead handy. i use them for IDE optical drives from time to time.
why don't you buy one 126 GB hard drive? I have this hard drive for a long time already and it's not even half full :D
PANIC! Or just get a bigger HD and transfer the files onto it.
I'd run diskmgmt.msc and get rid of that hp recovery partition.
