Interesting that you mention the Thunderbird being big enough to carry an adult whale, because the first myth I ever heard of the Thunderbird had it doing exactly that. According to the myth, there was a huge whale (it may have been an Orca) that was trying to eat all of the fish in a system of rivers close to where this one tribe lived, which would deprive the tribe of a key food source. One of the fish told a frog about this, who then informed a raven, who then flew off to find the Thunderbird and tell him. When Thunderbird heard about this, he was enraged, and he flew off to find the whale, grabbed it in his talons, dropped it on the side of a MOUNTAIN, and then basically left it there to die until it promised to never eat any fish again. Only when the whale made this promise did the Thunderbird show mercy towards it and return it to the water.
MGS 1 vulcan raven comes to mind.
I believe the Thunderbird had an enemy that lived in the ocean called “Whale”. There are mixed interpretations with some saying that Whale was not an actual whale but a giant marine creature that fed on whales. Some artistic interpretations make it look like an orca which are known to sometimes feed on other whales.
❤
Thunderbird...? ZAPDOS I choose you !
Lightning birb
Its the american phoenix, as lightning is a sub-element to fire, and their both both givers of life. The phoenix will give life to itself; while the thunderbird gives it to others, by summoning down rain to feed and nourish the land. I thought the thunderbird was from Native American tribes of Arizona.
The Thunderbird isn't just known in Alaska. One tribe speaks of how the Flood was caused by large, wicked serpents that blocked up the rivers to destroy mankind, but the Thunderbird and his kin fought the serpents until the rivers were unstopped. The smaller snakes we see today are descendants of the serpents that were small enough to escape.
Key deity in American Gods
15 to 25 ft wingspan
That Thunderbird🦅belongs to Thor, the god of Thunder⚡️
Fun fact: In Harry Potter lore, Thunderbirds are close relatives of the Phoenix & are native to Arizona, not Alaska. In fact, they’re the only reason why there are Monsoons in America.
In real life, They are actually quite common throughout the US according to the Native Americans. I remember hearing stories about Thunderbirds in Massachusetts
Harry Potter just needs an ice-based bird now to round out the legendary trio.
Tell me this doesn’t sound like the Pokémon Zapados
Zapdos was a real life myth? 😳
Zapdos!
That's what you call Angry Birds.
So there's another flood story from ancient peoples.
