Great review. I bought a 2020 Si a few months ago and am very happy with it. It's my daily driver, and I wanted a stick car that was both fun and practical. This checks all the boxes. I did look at the Kia Forte GT and the Jetta GLI, but when Honda added adaptive cruise to the 2020 model, that clinched it for me. It's good to have for the boring highway trips. The mileage has been a pleasant surprise, averaging 33 mpg with a lot of suburban driving (i.e. traffic lights). I do think the pumped in sound is only in Sport mode, which I don't use all that much. Also, the civicx community is a great resource if you interested in tweaking the car or adding a tune.
@@willythewhale2235 this was my first manual vehicle and it was a great and easy way of learning the skill. Took me about 2 weeks to get the hang of it.

The Civic SI current generation is killing it in SCCA G Street class and I still have second thoughts about having bought a GTI (significant discount).
T.K. Morris I bought. 2018 GTI S in 2019. It was a leftover. I’ve always like the GTI look. I didn’t know the 2018 S lacked a physical limited slip differential. But at my age I’m not going to be taking SCCA Nationals by storm. Love the GTI and the hatchback format. If the SI still had a hatch I’d probably consider it again.
Nice video! Active cruise/c can be turned off and defaults to regular mode, just press the right button in the circular pad for about 5 sec when cruise is on but not engaged.
I own a 10gen Si and it's a lot of fun driving a stick again. No major complaints I don't bother using sport mode as it's very hard to tell any difference than normal mode. I get about 28 city and high 30's highway. However, I am very intrigued by the Civic Hatch Sport w/manual that will probably be my next car.
11:20 I have no way to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure the collision braking system is set overly aggressive from the factory until it "learns" your driving style. When I bought my Civic new in 2017, the collision braking system, it had many false positives like you described. After a few months it really calmed down though, and I haven't had a false positive in years now.
I'm actually pretty interested in making this my next daily driver. Wow this is so strange, I was thinking about trading in my car for a Civic SI last night, and knew that Topher always had great videos driving cars to their max in his reviews. So I looked up to see if you had any videos on the SI, and I didn't see any new ones. Then I logged into CZcams tonight, and boom, this was my top recommended video. Thanks for reading my mind, and thanks for the great review! And wow, the cars beeps at you at redline, or was I hearing things? That's really annoying, along with the HDMI port style fake exhaust tip. Buuuuut, other than that, damn this car looks fun. Love watching you peel out to test the 0-60 time. Reviews like these are awesome.
@@markymark535 Hi, no I think I'll actually hold onto my 19 STI for now after seeing this review. I love it to death, but it just gets such poor gas mileage. Other than that it's perfect, minus a bit of road noise and a bumpy ride which doesn't bother me. Maybe I'll wait for the 21 WRX if it gets redesigned. SI looks great, but that beeping at redline seems really annoying.
I heard somewhere that you could actually disable the piped in engine sound through the settings in the infotainment. And if you're not opposed to doing a quick tune with your car, that could also get rid of the rev hang as well.
It's actually the engine sound thats is picked up by a mic and amolified by a speaker. It is THE engine sound and not something fake. What is there to rant about. You got your insulation and your engine sound as well. The main thing ur forgetting....this a legend car....Honda.
I love your videos man but saying you didn't like how the suspension stiffened in sport mode seemed so unappreciative. You can turn it on when you want to turn up the wick. It's a lot nice to drive in corners. You made it sound like it's unbearably stiff which it isn't. And obviously you can turn it off. Just my thoughts. Keep up the awesome reviews though.
Seems like fun daily commuter with stick. Sound complaint can be ignored. Rev hang is for the longevity. Let's be real. 🙂You get what you pay for. 😜 I might buy one once my lease with Corolla CVT bullcrap ends this year.
Couple odd electronics things that Honda should have allowed to be disabled in the software (fake engine sounds, rev limiter beeps), but glad Honda's doing its part keeping the old school goodies alive. Like a 6MT and the LSD. Very few cars still offer those in a neatly wrapped package and still make it a good daily car.
I had a 2017 and the rev hang is annoying at first but as you live with it you learn to shift/drive it so its not as bad. Regardless, I was always wanting for more power. I traded for a 2019 Accord 2.0T manual and honestly it is one of the best Honda's I have owned next to a new S2000 and CRX Si I owned back in the day.
I drove this and a GTI and while i would expect the Si to last longer, the GTI was so much better in every category for me. Including price.. I've had the GTI for almost 2 years now, and it has been 100% reliable.
JEdmund27 I don't drive mine in the winter, i did the first year, but bought a winter beater so I don't drive it in the salt and snow anymore.. not that it wasn't good in the snow, it was fine, actually did great.. but i love that car and don't want it to melt like everything metal in the rust belt.. that said it's been totally reliable.. if you want yours to last just make sure you change the oil every 5k miles.. the mile interval at 10k is way too long.. these high strung motors need clean oil that oil cooled turbo will be far more expensive to replace in the long run than the oil changes..
Eye Dunno i only drive stick in a newer car, it's probably my last new car, but yeah it's definitely a stick. The clutch in the GTI is actually pretty weak so i expect that I'll get 60-100k out of it before i have to replace it.. i got 200k out of one in a corolla and nearly 350k out of one in a Previa..
I'm at 8.5k miles right now in my 2019 and I've been thinking about solving the rev-hang with ktuner, but I don't want to void the 3yr/36k warranty. When did you get Ktuner? Did you wish you got it sooner?
@@mcJJP A tune may only void warranty on stuff that breaks directly related to the tune. Actually the powertrain warranty is 5yr/60k. My thought then was: If I don't fix the rev-hang, I may get rid of the car well before that warranty expires. It's that annoying to me. I did it at around 21k miles, and no problem so far. I always baby my car when I'm not pushing it.
I test drove it and felt in 2min. it's not the same as the 8th gen's. Not racy or sporty by any stretch of the imagination BUT definitely more premium, comfortable torquey feel for sure.
First time I bought my new Mazda 3 I drove over a Allen key and it poped my tire I was so,happy that,I had a spare tire and just knowing this car doesn't have one sucks Honda for you
That car doesn't need to play engine noises through the speakers. That's really dumb. It's still a quick little car though. I own the non si turbo and it's pretty quick. I was giving a Tesla a rough time the other day.
Not sure if you still have the car or not but I'd be curious to see what you thought about the clutch. I currently have this car and it has one of the lightest and vague clutches I've ever used. Can't feel where it catches, it just has to be muscle memory. Makes 1st and 2nd gear engagement kinda tricky, even after driving it for a couple years. Also my gearbox is not great in cold weather and feels kinda sloppy so I've had to resort to aftermarket shifters to help. Engine is lack luster, not Honda-like at all. Overall, it's a nice car, but not a great Honda Civic Si

I have a an EX-L with an automatic, I’d love to go for an Si next time with a stick and some more pep, I’m just not a fan of the spoiler and the racing seats.
Reminds me of my youth when we would place balloons on spokes of wheel to simulate sound of motor bike.
Best performance car in its class.

"without boost, no power and no torque". That pretty much sums up my Honda Civic coupe experience. I enjoyed driving my used 97 Ford Probe GT waaaay more than my brand new Honda Civic, if you can believe that. I find the Honda Civic materials really cheap too...not my thing anymore..
I love that the SI has a limited slip diff but I really want a 2.0T manual Accord. Honda should offer the LSD as an option at least on the Accord.
the civic needs the accord vtec 2.0 liter, the accord needs the civic's lsd.
this is the first time the accord has no engines not borrowed from the civic, and slower ones too, exceot hybrid.
the accord needs it's own engine again.
Wanted a hatchback so i ended up getting the 2020 sport hatchback with the manual transmission. Definitely wanted the si with the hatchback but you can't get what you want sometimes....
Yeah I like the type r sound more because it is pure boost and a bit of the 4 cylinder noise
I'm thinking of buying a 2020 Civic Si. Looks like a fun car for the price.
long live the si.
Did you get one
Recommend a GTI SE instead. Dont pay MSRP.
Mike beep can be turned off. It’s super annoying lol.
@@affinity3281 Do you own a GTI? Have you driven an SI?
I love it, but I really wish it had the 2.0 K instead of the 1.5. Not for more power but for reliability issues namely oil dilution.
If I had the choice between removing the rev hang or the piped in engine sound, I’d get rid of the rev hang.
Dream car
I've been waiting so long for this ever since in his other Si video he never turned on Sport mode...
J Fazzuoli, how’s your mileage on that. Watched his video on that Accord and loved the sound.
never knew the 2.0T accord came in manual
Man that red POPS on camera
It's such a difference between how he reviewed this and the Type R
Friend of mine has a type r. It’s an entirely different car.
I drove this and a GTI and while i would expect the Si to last longer, the GTI was so much better in every category for me. Including price.. I've had the GTI for almost 2 years now, and it has been 100% reliable.
My experience too. Though not the longevity; I've only had mine a month.
The GTIs are fairly reliable when they have a manual, auto not so much
JEdmund27 I don't drive mine in the winter, i did the first year, but bought a winter beater so I don't drive it in the salt and snow anymore.. not that it wasn't good in the snow, it was fine, actually did great.. but i love that car and don't want it to melt like everything metal in the rust belt.. that said it's been totally reliable.. if you want yours to last just make sure you change the oil every 5k miles.. the mile interval at 10k is way too long.. these high strung motors need clean oil that oil cooled turbo will be far more expensive to replace in the long run than the oil changes..
@@shartingfish5761 Good to know, thanks!
Had my Civic si for 36k miles. The rev-hang is a pain in the ass and I solved it with Ktuner. Other than that the car is a blast to drive.
HDMI port😂 earned the like my friend🙏🏼
First time I bought my new Mazda 3 I drove over a Allen key and it poped my tire I was so,happy that,I had a spare tire and just knowing this car doesn't have one sucks Honda for you
Damn I want one 😂 I use to dislike these little cars but the new models look good
That rev hang would absolutely kill me. VW didn't have as bad of a rev hang but was still enough for me to change cars.
