Last Sunday morning, I pedaled through Leeds city center with no traffic, and it was truly one of the most enjoyable rides I've experienced. plus with an e-bike you can get to the other side of the city in half the time as a car. Roads are paid for by all tax payers, regardless of if they have a car or not. If you consider the cost-per-trip in required infrastructure/maintenance, driving is exponentially higher than cycling (and walking/public transit). Driving has been subsidized by non-drivers for a long time.
