  • Selecting a signature fragrance is an import task for a gentleman, as he will always be judged by the way he smells (as well as the way he looks).
    In most cases, we will all have a selection of different fragrances that we turn to in certain times, such as during the summer, the winter and even for evening events and when we feel glum or elated.
    In my case, I have curated a selection of a few scents that in many instances have been my trusted companions for many years. In this video I discuss some of my favourite fragrances and how they entered into my life and where they sit today in my cologne rotation cycle.

    Im sorry but i think you are absolutely wrong in the very beginning: The Acqua di Parma brand, as the name implies, comes from the italian city of Parma in the northern region of Emilia-Romagna. Where did Spain, Mallorca comes from?🤔🤣

  • @robinashenden2029
    @robinashenden2029 Před 3 lety +7

    Please change this if you can - Acqua di Parma is an Italian perfume. Therefore it cannot come from Palma de Mallorca but comes from Parma, a city in Northern Italy, where ADP originated from.

    "Distinctive" is an euphemism when describing Kouros. It's one of those heavy hitters that works wonders in certain situations but can brand you for life as the obnoxious cologne guy, I mean chap, in the wrong setting. Love your channel, keep up the good work.

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  Před 4 lety +2

      You are absolutely right, it is a showstopper of a fragrance, but for some reason, probably my early memory of it as my first genuine luxury fragrance, I've always had a soft-spot for Kouros in-spite of it's rather bullish presence. We all have a vice I suppose. What is your favourite fragrance? Ash

      @@TheChapsGuide My favorite is Bel Ami by Hermès, it's somewhat outdated but the leather note in it is to die for, it's raw and somewhat nasty, very dry. So I have to agree with your comment on all of us having a vice.

    I too own a bottle of Floris 89. Yes, it is indeed very good. In terms of time-of-the-year, I'd definitely put it closer to Christmas than any other period. That spicy sillage definitely stands out. I'd compare it a bit to Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum.
    My favourite Floris fragrance is Jermyn Street (which is a parfum concentration). I love it!
    😍
    Yes Floris sell many different fragrances. I have blind-bought several others and I regret buying all of those others.
    😟
    One thing that I misunderstood, and none of the fragrance videos ever points it out, is that one can easily believe that a named fragrance is the same smell in the parfum concentration as compared to an EDT, Elixir, Intense or aftershave ... but just stronger or weaker. This is NOT the case. The same initial name can, and often is, designed by an entirely different perfumer ... and smells sometimes, completely different. I found this was exactly the case with Dior Sauvage Parfum and Dior Sauvage Elixir. They are nothing like each other. Why they have almost the same name, I just cannot fathom.
    By the way, I have a 100ml bottle of Dior Sauvage Elixir. I loved it. So much so, I sometimes used to give a squirt before retiring to bed. Then, last April, I caught covid. It must altered my sense of smell. Now I can't stand the stench of the stuff. And I paid £174 for 100ml bottle. 😭

    Acqua di Pino Colonia is a very inexpensive, but rather good alternative to Acqua di Parma. It has a very similar opening, but after that lacks most of the glamour of Acqua di Parma. This however means that it is also somewhat easier to use without too much thinking as a light but beatiful scent for summer.

    I am going backwards through your video library. The anecdote about your son was amusing and very recognizable in reverse - I often "borrowed" my grandfather's aftershave or cologne when he stayed with us. He was always a tall, powerful, strong, chivalrous gentleman who cared about how he presented himself. His fragrances were a part of this image.

    I own the AdP Colonia and really like it. My favourite summer fragrance is Tabarome by Creed. Was lucky enough to get it for half price around 5 years ago. Other summer fragrances I like are Jo Malone's 154 Cologne, Diptyque's Philosykos, Frapin's L'Humaniste, and Brecourt's Contre Pouvoir and their Mauvais Garcon. There is a niche fragrance house in NYC named Krigler, they have a excellent selection, plus you can buy a nice sample pack.

    Kouros is one of my all time favourites. Great for a summer night out. It smells amazing and get compliments wearing it. The whole room certainly knows you're there when you've got this stuff on. Next day when you've taken a shower you can still smell it. Kouros Summer Edition, specifically from early 2000's is the best aftershave I have ever smelled. Period. Interestingly, my wife and daughters prefered the No89 over the 127. I detect you have a Cardiff(?) area accent? John Lewis stocks Floris, FYI. Also great to see you also enjoy the classic Aqua Di Palma Colonia..... the Colonia Intensa is excellent. Thank you again.

And need to buy whatever it is possible made in England or made in EU and organic clothes and fragrances. We need to stop exploiting the people, animals and nature. We need to persuade companies to have a fair attitude. The clothing industry pollutes the environment the most and exploits the third world the most.
    Everyone can do against it if they make a conscious purchase.
