You've seen enough of these now to know that they're allowed to make up jokey points in the story, but the base of it is truth or lie. It's a comedy show, not a police interrogation 😂
You should know by now, North Americans are very literal. As Michael MacIntyre once pointed out;- eye glasses, sidewalk, horse back riding and waste paper basket. Not just glasses, pavement, horse riding and waste bin / basket.
also David and Lee (and Rob) do this show for many, man years. I always assume they lie because they must have run out of good, weird but believable stories years ago.

Best not to be too literal with this show,but the basic fact is true,they garnish the story to make it funny,and that’s what we love.
Lee and David are team captains and are are actually good friends. They have both been on the show since the first episode.
They are also 2 of the nicest people on British tv and both their wives are really lovely people too.
Lee and David are team captains and have been on the show since episode one. There are one or two episodes when they had to have a stand-in captain because one of them couldn't make it. Angus Deayton was the Host for the first 2 series, and Rob Brydon took over from series 3

Lee Mack on Graham Norton telling of how he got his start in comedy is hilarious.
The true or false part is not important it’s merely a vehicle to enjoy the repartee and humour so the can embellish for comedic purposes but it’s always revealed at the end as based on the truth or not.
Victoria is extremely clever and a noted poker player . She has her own quiz show and has guested on many other shows, being teamed with Lee on one occasion on Catsdown so they are all good friends .Most of the true stories are embellished to some degree and with this one the guess and the banter that went with it were the fun .
There’s always something so hilarious when a man portrays their spouse as an absolute nutcase behind closed doors 😂😂😂
This sort of show is based on what you'd call a parlour game where while you are tryting to win it's mostly about having a laugh and in this case being entertaining so some of the inconsistency in the truths is from jokes.
So much fun . That's what we need.
Lee is talking about a pot (actual pottery pot) called a Dutch oven. They are used for dry roasting meat. It is true you don’t scrub them. The pottery absorbs the flavour. They are also good for catching all the meat juices to add to your gravy.
...Okay now I've finished the video: Yes Lee and David are almost always there - they are the standard team captains. If one is unavailable for some reason sometimes some else standards in (Greg Davies for Lee for example). They sit in the middle of their benches and two other celebrities/politicians/public figures of some kind sit either side.
It's a comedy show, makes sense they'd add comedy to it 🤔🫠
Always amusing to watch Americans react to WILTY They always take the gameplay aspect very seriously as if it is a real gameshow where money or prizes are at stake 😀
No offense but I think you’re taking us having fun reacting to something way too seriously. We prefer to have fun with the videos and engage with them as opposed to being stiff and just watching and then saying”that was good”
You've misunderstood the "I'm not even married" bit. That was purely for humour value. Both David and Victoria know Lee well - that was just a flippant comment. (You probably get that later in the video, but I'm sort of "Live" commenting....)

WILTY is a show but also it is a funny lighthearted show.
That is the reason comedians are chosen to lead these shows. Cracking jokes is actually a huge part of the show. Shows like these are evening shows where people can come home, unwind and have a laugh.
Being silly is all part of the dynamic of these types of shows which sometimes seems almost childlike. Everyone has fun and joins in the silliness.
The determination of truth or lie is only what is written on the card. The story surrounding can be pure fiction.
Well no, they can't lie if what's on the card is true.
They can obfuscate or add in (true) details that make it sound false

WILTY rules: True or False relates only to the words read out from the card. Narrators can exaggerate facts or twist stories to throw Guessers off the scent and mislead them if it's done for comedic effect. Also, only the narrator & production team know whether a statement is true or false. The comedy is all-important and not the points or wins.

I can remember mum using one of these - called a Romertopf. She used to cook whole chickens in it - a lot... didn't really like it much!
Would love to see you do some of the compilations for people like Bob Mortimer, Greg Davies, James Acaster etc. even if you don’t do the whole things in one go and skip the clips you’ve done before

Important to remember the show is about humor and entertainment so the panelists are allowed to add flourishes to their stories. What’s a part of the story and what’s added for comedic effect is for the audience to decipher

david and lee are teal captains they are always there unless they are away for other commitments then they will have a guest captain
As far as i remember, Lee just missed one episode when he was sick, and Greg Davies stood in as Captain.
BOB Mortimer is a treasured guest and Lee and David are,vitually,ever presents since Day 1.

The chip was obviously a lie, he deliberately mis directs to make it look like he’s tripped up to fool you… plus the comedic element.

He's trying to be funny, which he is, not primarily to mislead. This is what I feel Americans have a hard time understanding about british panel shows and game shows. The points and wins don't matter as much as the comedy. Americans take everything so deadly serious.

My ex wife, if I’d of chipped her cooking pot ( which, by the way, she didn’t know how to use ) she whinge and moan for at least two weeks If she’d of broken something of mine she would’ve said just get over it

Lee & Davis have always been the team captains, lee has such a beautiful wife, he has a complex that she may leave him for a more handsome man.
He's a wealthy and successful comic, she ain't going nowhere. 😂
it amazes me when you can't tell the parts that are just for comedy and the parts that are actually relevant to the story whether it's a truth or lie just based on tone of voice or how ridiculous what someone said was. obviously the part about him smelling the chipped piece and it having all the flavor was a joke, or about his wife being an ogre, or about him not being married, that's not to throw anyone off that's just a joke. don't take this as a mean comment, i'm just baffled every time i watch one of these you can't discern the interactions that are just for laughs and all the comments end up being the same about having to explain how the show works. just makes it feel like you're not paying attention and Lee and David are team captains and have and will always be in the middle, again no hate

Exaggeration and Embellishment is part of the game, to throw people off. Come on, you should know this by now..? But yep it is usually 50/50, unless Bob is on (90+%, it is true). But still a guessing game, because he's had a colourful life.
the question is if you broke something of your wifes by accident would you tell her or replace it without telling her if possible... it would be great if you could tell us what you would do as a couple :)

He embellishers because he's a comedian. That's the point of the show. To make you laugh. Unlike the Nuremberg trials. Now Hermann tell the truth, it wasn't really all your wife's fault. Yes your honour it was all her and her friends in her book club. Once those girls get together there's nothing stopping them.

That confused me a bit. As you say nick there is no way that Lee's story is all true. Is it that the words on the card are true or false and you can then lie through your teeth in the explanation?

Getting one over on David's wife Victoria isn't an easy feat. The woman's a world class poker player who has won a total of 1.5 million pounds over the years in poker tournaments. So she should be able to read people quite well. 😂
Lee and David r the captains of the show,and various guests come on as team mates, some guest r reoccurring team mates some r not, and the name of the game is wether the statement on the card is true or not, not wether parts of the story r true/exaggerated.

@@Ffinity Gen Z don't write all words out fully, it's text speak. Spelling is not important to them either. Do they get marked down when they write like this when essay writing at school etc...? Probably not, as teachers these days aren't allowed to be negative in any way. It's hardly surprising that there is so much ignorance in the youth of today, in most countries.
As you surmised, Lee breaks the rules to cover up when he has gone wrong. I love WILTY, but this is not uncommon from Lee.
