It is so insanely sad that a mastermind like Valfar had died so young. But he left us a masterpiece of music and he will be never forgotten for this. He left a footmark in the history of Black Metal forever and I praise the day I stumbled over the music of Windir. It simply changed my life.
I was looking for variable for Windows path (%windir%), but I'm not disappointed.

Somehow I always get back to this album... whenever I'm sad, frustrated or when my depression comes out, this album, and Ulver's Bergtatt are my only friends. These two masterpieces helped me quite a lot of times already, and I'm back here again, and feel my grief slowly fading. Thank You Valfar, Thank You Windir a thousand times!

I used to listen to this album all the time in high school. Listening to it again for the first time at 30 now and it's still one of the best black metal records ever in my opinion

They introduce the electronic influence so naturally and make it such an important part of this album's sound that when it takes over completely, it is the logical way to conclude the album. To me, that clear, melancholy sound represents death and the afterlife. It is present on every track, but only at the very end does it get full reign.

Found this piece randomly. This is phenomenal! It is much more than just black metal to me. It is a journey... a tale... Don't even know who the founder was, but I am sad he died in 2004 at 25 yro.

This has quite probably been my most listened to album for the last 15 years. Brings tears to me eyes.

It really is, I couldn't tell which one I like better, this one or Arntor.

This album is worse compared to the first and third ones, it's just too symphonic while folk elements were sidelined. Maybe seeing Dimmu Borgir thrive worldwide made Valfar think that a more symphonic sound was the way to go.
Fortunately they changed this mindset on their Arntor album.
The amount of catchy, epic and beautiful melodies is overwhelming, perfect album.
This is my favourite band of all time, literally changed my life and made me the vocalist of a black metal band. Today i listened to this album for what would be the 50th time and my girlfriend just told me horrible things. I understand now that in my heart lives this band and i would never let anyone take this album from me. Valfar, you saved my life plenty of times with your music, thank you.
Update: well, i left her. It turns out She was a man After all and i can't do much about It. I'm sad now and i don't think i Will recover well. Part of my soul Is far gone now and i can't even hold a pick in the correct way. Tomorrow i have to write the lyrics of our First single and again all of this Is thanks to Valfar. I can't describe how painful is my situation and i don't think i Will be Happy in my sentimental Life as this Is the third time my Heart gets mangled this year. This can affect my music a lot and i want to take Valfar's Path in terms of lyrics and "musical sadness" even because i have an advantage on this haha...
Now i Will listen to this masterpiece once again, hoping i Will live enough so i can write everything i Need to Say.

Discovered this album in 2021 thanks to a friend. I'm a little ashamed of myself for not finding it earlier. The whole album is amazing and a special mention for the second part of Destroy, with a risk taken on the instrumentation...

Don't be. I'm an old metalhead and in for the game since the formation of Black Sabbath. Never heard of Windir till I saw a compilation today on youtube which presented this album to me. Absolutely awesome and a genuine gem.
Windir was recommended quite a few times while looking for melodic/atmospheric black metal. Never bothered to check them out until a few days ago. Man, I've been missing out.

Stil and untouchable piece of art in the history of Black Metal ! It's a littlebit like reading The Lord of the Rings , you need time to reset after you're done with the journey... but everytime you come back the spell hits you again!

What an absolute gem I found out. I'm not the greatest "black" fan but the melodies and orchestrations on Emperor/Dissection's works and here blew my mind. Maybe it's time to finally get into Ulver.
The opening riff in 1184 is the most metal use of high e strings possible.
I will surely be listening to "Journey To The End" on my deathbed. Scratch that, The full Windir discog...

Never too late to discover great music. For me this is better than Burzum and Bathory. Listen to Arntor if you still haven't. It's hard to tell which album is better, this one or that one.

I've been a black metal fan since high school yet I haven't discovered this until 2020, at 32 years of age. What a shame, and what a gem!
When I was in high school (2005 I was a senior) i spent most days searching Metal Archives for new bands. I came across Windir and was hooked. If you've never heard of the site just Google metal archives. It has probably the most complete database of metal any where

The Battle of Fimreite (Norwegian: Slaget ved Fimreite) was a naval battle fought on 15 June 1184 between King Magnus Erlingsson and the Birkebeiner pretender Sverre Sigurdsson. Sverre eventually defeated and killed Magnus in the battle, and successfully usurped the Norwegian throne.
