I believe it's time for me to be famous
And out of place.
I believe it's time for me to move for forward
When I break through.
When I break through.
When I break through.
When I break through.
This time I'll make you
Proud to see me over come on day light.
Proud of who you raised.
Your shelter, your peacefulness.
So this time I'll make you proud.
Proud of who you raised up.
You know that I will always be here 'til the end.
Come back so I can say thank you for this.
Home cooked meals and a place to rest
My troubled head when you're away.
I've passed the test, I've earned an A,
Not just in school, but in life.
You'll always be right by my side
To help me show hope to all
That are lost and sick in this dying world.
I'll use the love you left behind,
I'll change their minds, I'll change their minds.
I hope, I hope you smile
When you look down on me.
I hope you smile.
This can't, we won't know.
I hope that I make you proud.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.
#OfMiceAndMen #SecondAndSebring
I was listening to this song and my mom said, "They sound like they're worshiping the devil." And replied, "Mom, this song is for Austin's mother. She died when he was young and he wrote this song to thank her for raising and showing him love. You call it demonic because you hear screaming. I call it beauty because I hear the meaning."
Bree Bree Bear cause that happened. lol
Tyrone Bignell
Yup, it did.
*****
I should omg! She wouldn't get it lol, but I'll force it on her xD

Totally! I can't stop listening to this one, sick.
This song has never not hit the spot. Am I wrong?
Agreed
I love how this song is so fucking angry and wild but the message is 100% positive and full of hope.
I agree
This song is about his mom and wishing she was still here with him.
@@tylenb1 you can literally hear Austin’s pain in his voice

I cry every time I hear this song.
its just constant screaming, not meaningful at all
i tried and it was just constant screaming literally over half the song
Akatosh x the song is about thanking his dead mother for the things she has done. She died when he was about 17. Boom now you know :p
Cheyenne Thomas there is some useful information
BrizFTW i said i could not understand, sorry to upset you

Story time: I was in Afghanistan on a base and found an iPod in the gym near the squat rack. It was a small silver square shuffle (buttons only) with pink earbuds. I told the guy working to put a sign up and where to find me if someone came looking for it. After 4 weeks no one claimed it. I decided to finally see what music was on it. THIS WAS THE FIRST SONG IT PLAYED. You know how hard it was to figure out what sing this was?! Anyways, rock on. Kick ass. And do work.
RJ Hillman stupid question but how did you find it like did you have to google like metal core or screamo or scroll through a lot of songs on CZcams just to find it
Bkeny 1999 that is a good question lol
Which fob?? I was over there too
That's my fucking iPod
maybe he googled the lyrics he heard. sometimes it works
Im not crying there's just a tree in my eye
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. But that's me too, I feel ya.
Yeah I always have trees in my eyes 😂
My eyes sometimes start to sweat...
It's okay, if we cry, we cry together, that makes us human!
how'd you get a tree in your eye !?
"I'll use the love you left behind to change their minds, ill change their minds" that line absolutely broke me 😭 this song will never get old
Almost 2023 and still jamming to this at 30 years old. Miss the old days
Same here man.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Right there with you.
🤘🤘🤘
O yea❤️🔥
I found out recently that Austin wrote this to vent his feelings about his mum dying when he Austin was 17.
She died on the corner of 2nd and sebring ave.
Tami Swanson was she shot? What happened?
Tami Swanson actually... they used to live on 2nd and Sebring. She died of Marfan Syndrome. Everything he wrote in this song happened on 2nd and Sebring.
@@tamiswanson8761 wow I only now know the reason for this song and I have heard it back in 2010 a thousand times over! wow this song has even more importance to now, thanks for the info.
Tami Swanson I did not know that oh my god
Here still who’s all listening 2020?
how bout teens in 2020
Everyday. 🤘
Still listening ever since 2012. This song never gets old. ❤️
Ayyy
Me
My mother just passed away yesterday at 51 from cancer. I used to listen to this song all the time, never thought I would come back to listen to it because I relate to it, at least not for a very long time.
Hang in there buddy, her fight’s over. Now she gets a beautiful front row seat to observe the rest of your life.
@@NeonKillsIt that was beautiful!
wanna tell the comments what she was like?
@@jeremiahtroyer3995 she was awesome. My brothers and I used to hang out with her all the time like she was our best friend. She had a super kind heart. She was obsessed with Mickey Mouse and Disney World. I always wanted to be successful enough to be able to take her to all sorts of places in the world.
@@JordanBlue1 she sounds amazing. what else?
One of the most beautifully lyriced songs the earth has,
and will never be sung as greatly as Austin and Shay sung it.
(Their latest stuff is amazing though, no hate on Aaron, they're doing amazing things to, but this specific song is best with Austin and Shay)
Z La you can understand him?
Z La shay was honestly the best to me. his band dayshell is pretty good
Zeke i Agree so much 💘💓
While I do agree Pauley is doing a kick ass job with what hes given and I love his vocals, the band will never amount to what it did with Austin and more so with Shayley. Now for me it was the instrumentation and the smooth and rough vocals mixed so perfectly that made the band. Shay and Austin was just so important to the whole thing. Also yes Austin is understandable if you read the lyrics and arent a lazy piece of shit.
Undead Joe look the lyrics up and it sounds good how they sang it
I recently got my dad onto Of Mice, Panic!, All Time Low and Brand New. I'm a proud daughter lol.
OM&M in the same sentence as All Time Low.
This was a sad day for music everywhere.
Wasted Apostle Ha okay, is it wrong to like multiple genres of alternative music? All Time Low is a good band, the songs are catchy as shit.
3mi133
No that's fine, All Time Low is just shitty.
Wasted Apostle Ahh to each his own.
Caira Loves Bands. He was like "my daughter listens to some heavy stuff." And I was like ughh okay, because I guess I'm so use to their sound I was like this is nothing compared to other stuff ya know?
Today's my mom's memorial service. Had to listen to this again...
Sorry for your loss sis
Keep your head up🙌
Sorry for your loss
Beautiful choice of song, sorry for your loss ❤️
Lost mine a few years back. Live for her.
Hope you're okay.
32 and still never tired of this song.
Same. Also 32. This Era of music was epic.

I can't- I just can't take the feels.
My mum passed away few weeks ago... So if you still have your parents, let them know how much you love them, give them a hug and say thank you. You'll regret it when it's too late
I I needed this right now, the last thing I did was got in a fight with my mom an se left for work. My dad used to have cancer, he smokes and drinks, and he has been sick lately
+pierce my chemical sirens I hope the best for you and your family ;/
Just did it a while ago. Before they fade away, imma make sure that I finish college and have a nice life and a good job as a promise for them and to myself.
My mom shunned me and told me I was dead to her at 12 years old. She is still alive but doesn't love me or want anything to do with me. This song got me through some bad times.
song is still the shit. used to bump this in my 8th and 9th grade years. got me through some rough family times.
I had to read that again bc I thought u said it was shit XD
+Brooke Kaye lol me too
going back to 7th and 8th grade listening to this makes me mo again 😂 helppppp haha i still love them
tiffanyy same still the best album of all
This is one of the greatest love songs of all time. Not between the obvious "boy and girl" trope but mother and son which is, as the song makes clear, something so powerful to change lives and move worlds. If you don't shed a tear when the old man holds his red super hero cape for a final time you have no soul. Epic.
Too bad Austin Carlisles mom raised up a sexual predator 🤷♀️
Guess I have no soul
@@jeffbrownstain bro did NOT make her proud 🙅♂🙅♂
My mom passed a few years ago and this song helped me get through the grief, I always took it as his mom passed when he was young and he wrote this for her

Austin Carlile once a hero ALWAYS a hero i DONT care what he did in his past he's my hero
There's more people in this band than just Austin Carlile.

Every. Damn. Time.
First time I've ever listened to this song, and I'm not gonna lie it broke me, and my and made my day, BC I, too, lost my mother at a young age, so I guess I can really relate to this song and the band
Meaningful lyrics. That's exactly what I love about Of Mice & Men.
Best screamer and clean vocalist in metal, together. I miss it...
This takes me back.
I was in high school when this song came out. I remember hearing this and gave my mother a hug. Then a couple years later (2012) I lost my mother I was 17 years old. Now I understand this song more than ever. I can connect with the pain and anger in his vocals. So much passion.
My advice to the younger lads and those who still have their parents, dont take it for granted. Especially your mother. Love your mother with all your heart.
I feel you. I just lost my mother at 23. It sucks for parents to go so young.
Your story hits home, I myself was 21 when my mother passed (also in 2012) and I always remind myself that at least I was an adult out of school... but my brother was just 17 and my heart still hurts for him
damnnnn rip man hope you still good
Same man. Lost mine out of no where when I was 22. Now I’m married and just had a child of my own. It really made me have a better idea of how important a mothers love is. It’s something truly special and I’d give anything to go back and just say thank you
Feel you. Same year & age. Hold on tight.
2024 and love seeing a young Aaron killing it before he took the MIM crown
Is it weird that this music calms me down??
B Miller no music is therpy
Nah it's make us take away what we have inside.
B Miller no

i love this song. I know it was written in dedication to Austin's mother who died from marfan syndrome. I listen to it when I think of my dad who passed away from a condition that's a cousin to marfan syndrome called ehlers danlos syndrome. so in a way I can connect to the emotions Austin felt in this song. especially since my dad and I were so close.
rip
I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm going to guess that he had vascular EDS because that's the worst one.
I have EDS type 3 so I know that seeing somebody suffer with this horrible condition is extremely painful.
I didn't know that this was dedicated his mother or that she had Marfan Syndrome, this song just got a lot more personal for me
+Chelsea Ward yeah, it was vascular. I have it too. :( eds sucks. but yeah this song when I found out what it was about, it became really personal for me too.

August 11, 2019 I lost my father. He was riding his bike in Natchez Trace, which is what he loved doing, and had a massive heart attack and died almost instantly. I wish I could see him one more time, give him a hug, tell him I love him, or call him. Sitting in the hospital next to his body really wrecked me and I just wish he was here so bad. I know this song is more about losing a mother, but it really has me thinking about my Dad. I sure hope I do nothing but make him proud and smile. I really pray that I will one day see him again. But for now this song will always hit me a little bit differently. Todd Hunter Binkley, thank you for being an amazing father and I hope I do knowing but make you proud of the son you raised in me. Rest In Peace you beautiful soul, I love you!
Yes, that's the reason that Austin wrote the song, however music always has a different interpretation to the listener. Personally, I see this song as him telling people to hold the people that you love close to you, and to never forget the people they made you into, because one day they will be gone and you want bright memories to fill the space they once were.
Stay strong, man! and make him proud
This song is a absolute goldmine, especially if you love metalcore. The breakdowns are incredible
the whole album still holds up to this day
Immaculate breakdowns
It slaps me silly
I live for their breakdowns
This was my gateway band into the world of metalcore and post hardcore. I’ll never forget this band
I don't even listen to this band or this kind of music anymore but ill always love this song
same here
brenda munoz same I listen to kpop now but i used to be full on emo
Amy omg me too i love kpop now lol
brenda munoz same
brenda munoz Koop, how do you go from metal to Koop, ew, no, sorry, u do u, my opinion's mine, just, the spectrum, of metal, to pop, K pop, is just...so wide
0:57 is probably one of the hardest headbanging moments I'd ever have from listening to this genre!
chelsea grin, carnifex, in the midst of lions, we operate the deceased ^^
you haven't heard much.
DakodaSeth
And you're probably right, because I have only been listening to this genre for 2 years now. But I really don't care. I've heard harder breakdowns from other bands, but this had a moment that builds to start explaining it's message. Don't get me wrong there are other bands that do that too.
I enjoy music mostly for the lyrics. Hard instrumentals and screams ain't gonna be the only thing I have going for me when listening to songs. My personal preferential feeling to enjoy music is lyricism.
OM&M has much harder headbanging moments in other songs such as "The Depths" and "Bones Exposed"
I would love to be in a metal band. It's actually my #1 dream. But then I look at a great band like this and I just think I'll never be good enough. Uhg. But great band. Love their music
they suck

Yes, and ending it listening to them too.
Who's listening to in 2019?....... I used to rock out hardcore with this song! Love it.
oh high school days
OM&M left a bad taste in my mouth after Carlile left the band and became a Jesus freak and says "the ten years in the band were the worst ten years of my life." Ok that's fine dude, but don't make it sound like the band was the reason it was so bad, you treated your bodily horribly and were addicted to drugs and alcohol. Worst ten years of your life because you chose to make it that way, the devil didn't do anything to him, it's called being a human. Humans are different people when money, drugs and sex are presented constantly. Carlile needs to say the truth which is, he wasn't a strong enough person to turn down temptation. Glad he's gone, good riddance, saw the band live last month and they are doing just fine without him.
Listened to it for the first time in 2019, actually.
Ryan Bennett He didn’t say that about the band he most likely was taking about for him as in the choices he made. It’s common misconception that people keep saying this, watch the full video not the one that uploaded a clickbait one.
Arrianna ForReal Hell yes I am
I love songs like this, songs with meaning that touch one's heart.
I cry every time I listen to this song and even more so when I watch this video.
This is also the song I use to show people that the term "devil worship music" adopted by stupid people is offensive to me because it's not all like that ))
same I'm at the point where i am about to cry. They hit me right in the feels.
I know people can be so affensive
Metal Born worshiping satan, so yeah youre not different from ignorant people. You judge as everyone else. How can you say satanic Is offensive? Black Metal Is one Of the most cool genres of metal, and its mostly satanic. what's wrong with this people? you thibk your mind Is open because you listen to a guy screaming? you're a dumbass
***** No, but you know what? without Black Metal this wouldn't exist. Even when it is not Black Metal, it has a direct heritage from the Black Metal movement.
+Federico Lopez Uribe He said it offended him when people call OM&M devil worship music. But you had to make the assumption that he was trashing your music, so you got all butthurt and threw the word "dumbass" in there. I hope that makes you feel real good about yourself, buddy. But you know what they say about assuming...

Just crying at the fact that Austin’s mom would in fact, be very proud. He’s a devoted Christian and loving husband and wonderful father 😭 and my atheist emo ass love him for that
R.I.P. Mom. I miss you more every day.
Whew..this song already made me emotional. Then I see your comment now I'm crying 🥴
One of the only songs that can genuinely make me tear up. Once the song hits "I hope I make you proud..." and on, it really gets me. It's so well-written in lyrics, vocals, and instrumentals, but that type of perfection can only be written through true emotion. The message of the song is positive--him [Austin] honoring his mother, remembering her, finding happiness and success, and finding peace and acceptance in her death yet has those raw undertones of pain, sorrow, and how much he misses her.
your comment is fairly old, but this song is forever so who cares. I'm completely with you. There's just so much emotion there expressed beautifully.
unrelated but also completely related, i recently discovered Lorna Shore and their pain remains trilogy (last three songs of the pain remains album) absolutely hit the same spot. The whole album is extremely emotional but the last three songs always put me over the edge. As you implied, very few songs are able to hit so down to the core and it's so magical when it happens so i wanted to share
The decade is almost up guys😭🤞 this song will always be apart of my life.
I always cry on the part that says "this is not what it is only baby scars.... I need your love like a boy needs his mothers side"
This song just makes me realise how much I actually love my mother
I like your profile picture 😏
2007-2011 were the golden years of metalcore IMO. Nowadays it seems like the bands that are still around from the mid-late 2000's are trying to incorporate too much pop while trying to be heavy, the screamers have worn their voices so much that when they do their cleans (or perform live), you can tell they're struggling, or they've done a genre-shift to a sound that does not appeal to *me.* Will miss these days.
+Clementin[e] You just need to listen to the right bands. Try Breakdown Of Sanity
+reckzn I'll give them a try.
I miss Danny in Asking Alexandria when he gave a shit
Go back further to about 2004. You got metalcore bands like KSE, Trivium, Lamb Of God, Atreyu, etc
+Bestintheworld182 Holy shit! Throwback to when Atreyu was still metalcore! :D
Can't believe Austin is gone now... forever

Dude they still play???? Aww hell yeah mate
"COME BAAAAAAAAAAACK" is always what gets me.
Happy mother's day everyone
its so weird, this genre will never ever be like this again. bands like of mice and men, attack attack, the devil wears prada, we came as romans, jamies elsewhere sky eats airplanes, ... they all were so good back in the day. not to say that they aren't still good, but, they changed. not necessarily for good or for bad. but never again will bands make music that sounds like this to us. any of the newer bands immediately get dismissed as being "generic" or "unoriginal", and there are SOOO many now. I miss the times when I'd go for walks, turn on my ipod and play the of mice and men album start to back because it was new. oh well, that's just me reminiscing.
"back in the day" What? Pretty much all of metalcore is generic and unoriginal, js.
when i say "back in the day" i mean a couple of years ago, we all thought these bands were good. and now a lot of us have grown up and realized they aren't very special musically, but they still have a big place in our hearts.
There's a couple of bands still making music somewhat similar to this. A personal favourite is 'For All Those Sleeping'.
HarbingerOfTruth1 Well, i don't know about you, but they are unique in their own style. They have their own style of structure, riffs, etc. You can't call them generic or unoriginal.
Jaehyun Shim I'm pretty sure I can and they can't really be considered original either. Of course all bands are unique just as all individuals are unique, that doesn't mean that can't be generic.
2024! Let's go!
This is my first time reading the lyrics, holy crap. Mind blown.
I'm a big hip hop/ R&B fan i 1st started listening to OM&M cos i really liked the way they played music it was only later on i started to understand their lyrics and get what they were saying. Regardless of how you feel about genres these guys are talented because you don't understand their music that doesn't take anything away from them
Lmao fucking same I listen to rap and shit but shit lol o actually listen to this now sometimes it's weird af but w.e
I still love this song like that first time when I first heard it. Its such a beautiful song
I remember listening to this for the first time as a preteen.. this band has helped me through a lot of hard times.. to a broken dysfunctional home to abusive relationships and other hardships I had to go through in this life, I’m 22 now and I’m just now going through the process of healing
Looking back at the girl I used to be.. I wish I could give her a hug and tell her that it does get better, and to thank her for hanging on for dear life because I wouldn’t be here today if she had given up completely.. here’s to being strong and to going through any storm headstrong
This song makes me cry every time because my father had died just two years ago. That man was my joy and cancer took him away from me. This song just makes me cry and makes me feel like he is smiling at me from above. Thank you of mice and men for creating the best song I've ever listened to. And the one song I will always go to when sadness takes over my mind.
this makes me cry
SO ARE YOU LOL
Omgee aren't we all
Just wanted to thank my mom for all the good home cooked meals and a place to stay when I was getting my crap together in life trying to find my fortune. And wanted to also apologize to my family for the shame and embarrassment I caused them while I was going through issues with self harm and drug abuse.
Thanks for loving me so much momma and thank you for all your support during the hard times when the rest of my family didn’t love me!! I love you momma ! Bet my dads really sorry he ain’t in my life. Such a shame, at least I got you and my awesome wife !
Trust me budz! . .she's always proud for his son because she's never get bored for support whatever you've done in your life before 🙌
Whos still here for this legendary song?
We never leave😊
*This is not, what it is only baby scars.* *I need your love, like a boy needs his mothers side.*
Those lyrics can have such a big affect on people around the world. It could mean so much to someone, and it can mean something different to each individual. Never tell someone that their taste in music is crap, cause that can affect them so much, and it causes them to change their own personality for others. It can make them question every choice they will ever make. The songs they listen to could have changed their life, and saved them from their darkest moments. So stop complaining about this song, or any other song for that matter.
Preach 🙌
At the end of those in glass houses. The reversed lyrics are, "I need your love like a boy needs his mothers side"
Venomous_Pandaa i never knew that... my mind has been blown...
Hannah JigglyPuff I get the feels every time I listen to the end of 'Those in glass houses' when he was walking alone with the mic.
Proudly have these lyrics inked into my back, always makes me smile whenever I walk past my mirror :)
This song will be forever timeless. The metal genre will continue to change but this song will never age. And the emotional feeling we all surely get will never fade, especially the ending.
Who came back here in 2020 and cried from nostalgia 😭💙💙
Sebrings bests seven's
Days!!!! ❤❤🎉🎉
2007-2010 was so LIT with great shows and music
I really hate how people misjudge this type of music and say 'it's of the devil' without really taking the time to step back and actually read the lyrics. This song and 'Another You' (fRestoring Force) are really great songs with really meaningful lyrics. Both songs are really heartfelt songs about Austin's mom. If people would take the time to actually read the lyrics and understand the song they would probably have a different opinion.
Thank you
No problemo!!! It's just how I feel.
this song is the definition of "the feels" i love it. all these stories are heartbreaking..
I'll be 80 still listening. 🥰
It eventually gets better. Keep listening to the music you love cuz sometimes it's all you have to carry you through. Never stop listening to what makes you feel better. Can't wait to take my DD to see this band ♥
My mother recently passed away on the 28th of May 2020. The grieving process has been in waves and i miss her dearly. Listening to this song now really hits me and give me a theraputic cry and a sense of hopefullness of how i will handle life in the future without her.
My condolences. Sending you endless strength.
