  • We did RB30 vs 2JZ engine block comparison, now its time to test and compare their little brothers. The RB25DET and the 1JZ-GTE engine blocks.
Please note, we are only testing the bare block, no other ancillary parts that go with it.

what on earth? s50 cost somethink like 2000-6000€. that is not that expensive. at least here in germany. on the other hand we definitly do not have a shortage on bmw blocks. they are fairly good. the real weakness are the connection rod bearings. you have to change those every 100k km. otherwise my e36 works perfectly fine, despite having 380bhp (airbox, cams, ecu).

The deck height is the distance between the crank centerline and the top of the deck, essentially the block height. This is the main difference between a 1JZ block and a 2JZ block: the 2JZ block is the taller of the two.

The 7m gte which came in the JZA70 Supra was a great engine but suffered from overheating, head gasket and head stud issues where the head would tend to lift at high boost. Get that bmw m50 iron block to the test! Its propably not nearly as good as these but id love to see how it goes since its a common engine for turbo projects in my country.

Could you do a whole video talking about thickness and hardness? By that of course I mean in terms of engine blocks! would be great if you would go more in depth about the tools you are using and what exactly the measurements mean. I would like to understand the values better from a technical perspective. I'm sure many other viewers would as well!
    Awesome videos and thank you.

Without headflow numbers all of this means nothing sure the block can support 1000hp but can the ports flow around the 333cfm required to make that power

this is cool and all, but since you do so many test of race proven 6 cylinders, can you test a race proven K series 4 cylinder honda engine? I wanna see it's hardness and thickness of bores. Thank you. K series being some of the most utilized and best 4 cylinder engines readily available, much like the barra in Australia.

Question. Whilst this series is very interesting, does all of this data basically not matter unless you are aiming for high to ridiculously high power figures? ie 1000hp and up?
