It isn't just the funniest Disney movie. It's also the most adult. I know it was the 1970s, they got away with drag, sexual innuendo and a very obvious gay villain. Prince John and Hiss are camping it up like crazy. And the characters, both visually and audibly, are dripping with personality. You can tell within minutes what every character is about and you want to know more. People can slag this movie for being a "lazy" cartoon, but at least it's hand drawn and not made by a computer. I actually think the rustic look of the film works with the story. I almost rooted for Prince John in this version because he's just so much fun. This is definitely the horniest Disney movie ever made and I love it for that. Finally, something suitable for kids but has something in it for adults. I also love that the Hamster Dance came from this. I burst out laughing when I first heard the song on the radio.

There are a lot of arguments on how this is one of the best Robin Hood adaptations out there specifically because of how they were originally going to make it a Western. That right there gets to the heart of the Robin Hood mythos but also gave it a very specific flavour that speaks to children and irritates those who take themselves too seriously. There's a whole school of medievalists actually put it up there with "A Knight's Tale" as far as capturing the spirit of the medieval for people living in that time period.

I really like Robin Hood’s portrayal in this movie. A guy I assume in his twenties who can be a goofball and overgrown kid at times but knows when to get serious when the situation calls for it. He also doesn’t take love for granted and knows he can’t offer Marian anything. Do you agree?

They didn’t exactly “reuse” animation, because they still had to actually draw and - well - _animate_ said reused scenes… we call it “lazy/copy & paste” by our standards, but the animators had to actually draw every scene frame by frame. What was “reused” was the the choreography, not the animation itself.
Perhaps you knew this, so please forgive me. But for “haters” out there, just try watching an old animated sequence and then redrawing it with new characters frame for frame… not so easy!
Thanks for the video. Good work :)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The musical numbers are iconic, the story simple and exciting, and the characters funny and lovable for all ages. Your critique of this movie is really down to earth. It catches what people really go to movies for, to have fun, be entertained and if they really want to, they can think deeper thoughts about what it was about. A bonus that I think many movies are missing, both now and in the past, is rewatchability. I watched this movie hundreds of times growing up, probably once every year or 2 in my twenties and thirties, and now that I have young children who are just coming to an age that they can watch movies, I have watched this with them look forward to watching it or hearing it in the background hundreds more times. One thing that I think deserves mentioning about this movie is that it has defined Robin Hood for at least 3 generations, and it really understood and portrayed the essence of who people want Robin Hood to be.

If anything, the copypasta factor further underscores how good this movie is because of how well it works despite it's comparatively lackluster animation.

I thank you so much for defending this movie. I was also want to add another point against the re-used animation criticism.
Disney has literally re-used animation in several other films before and afterwards, you will notice it more with the later half of the silver age and bronze age. Jungle Book borrows from Sword in The Stone and Vice versa with 101 Dalmatians. Whilst it is more noticeable in Robin Hood, the actual original animation is extremely underrated and detailed to this day. Especially the wrinkles, cloth physics and subtle ways the animal characters react in their scenarios. My favourite has to be Sir Hiss's tail folding over the basket to look like crossed arms. It's such a short moment it's a wonderful nice touch of detail.

My favourite Disney movie by far. Enjoyed it as a child and still do to this day. Such a darn shame Disney can't even come anything close to the Silver era anymore. No idea why even here a few people call the animation "lazy". The Xerox method is more streamlined and a bit rough but definately not lazy. To think Disney had to pull people out of retirement for the hand drawn segments of the Marry Poppins sequel and those still look horrible and lackluster compared to this done in the 70s on a shoestring budget.
Also Marian is just such a joy to watch, honestly one of the best disney female characters ever done. She is just so lady-like, calm and just good natured. You dont get female characters like her anymore.
    Good review.

It’s interesting to note that Disney was originally going to make an adaptation of an old European folklore called Reynard. But Disney realized Reynard isn’t hero material so they decided to combine elements from Robin Hood into Reynard. Despite the cheap looking animation, this is still an entertaining movie. I would say this is definitely one of the best Robin Hood movies ever made. There’s a charm to movies with anthropomorphic animals in them.
