I interned at Gettysburg for a summer many years ago. Getting the opportunity to work around Scott and see him work was like shoot'n hoops with Jordan. Scott made everyone around him better. RIP Coco!
To me, his time around the park will always be the glory days. I looked at him like a rock star
Scott Hartwig is an American Treasure.
Yes he is
@@addressinggettysburg- At about the 23 minute mark he talks about as a writer- being objective. That is so spot on. It gives the writer credibility.
Great video Matt. You should be very proud of the work you have done for the NPS on these lectures. Tremendous job!
Scott Hartwig is one of my favorite historians. The work he did as supervisor of historians at Gettysburg National Military Park will last for generations. Can't wait to check this interview out.
He really was fantastic. You’re right. He’s left an indelible mark on interpretation here
SCOTT HARTWIG IS THE BENCHMARK / THE DEFINITION OF A HISTORIAN!!!!
Indeed
Scott is and always has been a top notch contributor to civil war sr history.
💯
I love how this lecture was done differently and was more conversation than lecture. Nice way to break it up
Glad to hear that!
His book "I Dread the Thought of the Place" is the best civil war book I've ever read. Fantastic.
💯
Matt is doing a great job with these video lectures. I enjoyed those in the previous years, but sometimes the audio was not clear. These new videos are perfect! Thanks, Matt!
Thanks, John!
Absolutely fantastic presentation. Great job Matt. Camera angles were good and i could even hear the questions very well.
Awesome, thank you!

Had the book with me on the coffee table while I was watching it 🙂
It’s a great book
@@addressinggettysburg one of the best
GGGrandpa (66th OVI) had a photo book given at the 1891 reunion. He must have thumbed through it often as it is worn. It was really my gateway to the ACW as I treasured it as a kid and still do. Got Scotts books ready to go for mid Spring/early Summer read.
Great filming AG! The series has been superb this year!
Many thanks!
Thank you so much for the broadcast from Gettysburg*
You’re welcome
@@addressinggettysburg thank you Matt

I really, really enjoyed this presentation. Thanks for posting.
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it
Walking though the cornfield is very moving.
Yeah that while battlefield has an eerie feeling for me. It’s such pretty countryside, like here, and hard to imagine the carnage.
@@addressinggettysburg Tanya and I went to Sharpsburg after leaving you last August in G-burg. I wanted to see where my ancestors walked through the cornfield. It was a very surreal and, yes, eerie feeling. It was almost as if all of that shed blood from trauma both sides inflicted was still there just under the topsoil.
Excellent program. Can’t wait to read the book. Thanks Addressing Gettysburg!
You’re welcome!! If you get the books from a store, bring a little red Radio Flyer with you for transport. They’re big!
Awesome Conversation/Lecture... One of the best interviews I've seen or read of an author speaking on how they researched and wrote a book. Good Job!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would to have a book published of his chapters of notes he took. That would be amazing
Yeah it would
Johnny Shiloh and Mosby’s Marauders and the blue and the gray got me HOOKED!!!

Excellent. Is there a hardbound copy of the first book “to Antietam creek” available?
I know there was. Not sure if they’re still in print new, though. Check Amazon.
Scott looks like he could be Christian Bale’s dad, haha. 2 more books added to the list.
