  • Robert Bly offers a unique glimpse into the thinking behind his visionary 1996 book "The Sibling Society" as he was writing it, in a wide-ranging discussion of initiation, prolonged adolescence, the horizontal culture, and the father we all long for. Recorded at the 1995 Minnesota Men's Conference. www.minnesotame...

I discovered the Minnesota men's conference channel a few days ago, and I find myself creating time to listening to these men.
I haven't said, "hmmm." so many times and in so many ways in all my life.
I am 32 and find the wisdom of these men to be gold. So hard to find. The men that know, do not share unless we ask the questions in the correct way.
I can listen to these men and find new understanding of the different states of learning myself and teaching myself. So much gold

Same age, had the same experience with a lot of these talks. Constantly hearing ideas and thoughts that strike a chord somewhere deep in me. I was fortunate to come across some of these ideas in my early 20's, in my experience they continue to offer more to me as I age.

I first heard of Robert Bly 20 years ago. I "put him on the shelf" while working out my salvation. Been taking him in as much as possible. His teachings are deep and timeless.

I think Bly's book is truer today than when it was written over 20 years ago.

Bly states here that Freud did not imagine the superego changing. I don’t think that is true. Freud was influenced by Nietzsche‘s genealogy of Morals which outlines shifts in conventional moralities. I don’t think he could have predicted how the Superego would change, but he had some clues, he felt American consumerism was vulgar. He once said to Ernst Jones, "America is a mistake a gigantic mistake."

It's not just fathering i long for and wish to give when the time comes ... it is having or being an elder, a provider of wisdom, people who are concerned and committed to thinking deeply and offering heart wisdom, on the basis of truly knowing the younger people in their world. That is what i think is missing. By focusing on the masculine/feminine aspects we sort of miss this point a bit.

It's hard to know what to do with this thesis.....though I certainly agree the young are being so damaged by incessant media.

And all this as I listen to all this with the movie "The Breakfast Club" also having just started on the TV in the background.. And meanwhile also as an astrologer I also turn to note the symbols for the Ascendant at this time, beginning at *5degAqu.. A COUNCIL OF ANCESTORS IS SEEN IMPLEMENTING THE EFFORTS OF A YOUNG LEADER.. The Root foundation of past performances which power & sustain whatever decision is made in a crisis by an individual..
While also having just moved from the previous degree, at *4degAqu.. A HINDU YOGI DEMONSTRATES HIS HEALING POWERS.. The disciplined use of Spiritual energies in restoring the natural harmony disturbed by mankind‘s inharmonic attempts to transcend nature through mind.. While also moving towards the next degree, at *6degAqu.. A MASKED FIGURE PERFORMS RITUALISTIC ACTS IN A MYSTERY PLAY.. The individual‘s involvement in a long established patterns of activity aiming at the release of Collective power…..
NB: these Sabian Symbols from coming from Dane Rudhyar's book 'An Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformation & Its 360 Symbolic Phases'....

I'm sorry. I don't follow what any of this has to do with Bly's reading.
