I am currently also building myself a workbench/desk thing of sorts. Mainly for electronics stuff. My challenge: I live in a 527 sq.ft. apartment so I do not have a whole lot of room to work with. The thing will sit in my living room, so I need to make every square inch count. My tool storage hanger (for screwdrivers, various pliers and cutters, IC puller, other specialized electronics tools etc) I am proud of…I got some aluminum C profiles/rails, a bunch of hammerhead nuts, set screws (both with M6 threads) and heatshrink tubing. Cut rails to length and bolted them to the side of the shelf. The set screws get covered in heatshrink and get installed in the aluminum rails with the hammerhead nuts…and the tools either are hung on the screws or held between two of them. The heatshrink is optional and only keeps the tools from getting scratched up.

How much did you use in budget on this project. I like the desk a lot and have a space for a Lshaped tech desk in my home office. I get upset watching desk making videos because they usually say stuff, like a "quick" and "cheap" project in the title, then you see they have like 3 grand worth ( or hundreds of dollars, at least) of specialized woodworking tools, and it kills it for me. It's like watching ANY LTT video... "Look at _______; It's AWESOME!!!! It costs about $17k...." Nice deep well fortified barrier to any possibility of me experinecing it for myself.
I have decently good hand tools, but no tables saws, miter saws, jig kits, etc... it's vexxing, because a simple desk solution that is customizable is all I am trying to build.
    Anyway, like the video!

I bought premade butcher block countertops and built the desk around the sizes that were available. I have a total of 600$ into this desk. It's not cheap but it should last a lifetime for sure
