Ive used splitboots b4 with good success...they Do work ..How well they hold up is Critically dependent on getting them around the sharft and completely gluing that seam while not getting Any grease whatsoever on the seam that is to be joined... easier said than done! B4 I ven attempt to insert the immaculate cv boot around the shaft, I pack it with new grease, use clear saran wrap to then completely wrap the shaft and the end with the new grease so that Any exposed surface that the new boot will touch, is grease free, uncontaminated... then slip the boot over the shaft and start with the gluing.. when the seam is completely done and cured, Only then remove the wrap and slide the boot on...some boots are in 2 halves, others have only 1 seam.. if working with the 2 halves type, I glue one half of it when off then car, then u only have to deal with gluing 1 remaining side when on the axle...
if you keep things Hospital immaculate in regards to the seams, it Will hold up great..the halves literally Fuse together... If there is even a trace of grease touching the seam, it the glue may seem to work initially, but it craetes a weak spot that Will let go in that spot later down the line.

I would have trimmed the front of that boot before gluing. Needed a better fit.

Temporary fix at best in the UK we use stretch boots either using a cone or the pro-level tool a boot expander

I would be less worried about grease coming out than grit getting in. Depending upon the car, the axles are inexpensive. Even for my Porsche, I got a "preowed" one for like $90 delivered. In my case, there was other (dealer caused) damage, but the price and ease of repair remains on the whole axle.

Great job, but flex tape or spray flex seal or bigger boot will do even better. But great idea that you provided

Fair attempt at installing a split boot. But, wouldn’t it have been easier to do with the wheel off? Can you give an update on how those boots have held up and time on vehicle? IMO, the area with the broken boot should have been thoroughly cleansed of the old grease including the shaft. Then dry fit the boot to ensure proper fit. Mark area/s if any to be cut off allowing for a few mm over the cut area. Once completed, apply the sealer from the smaller end working to the larger, but doing in small steps and holding the part together for the requisite time, little longer is better until completed. After, then go ahead and pack grease into the cv axle and any balance into the boot. Complete by clamping both ends with provided straps. Ensure you have a tool that will compress those clamps to begin with. What tool did you use to clamp as it appears to need a specialty tool for that type of clamp?

I used a pair of squarenose pliers to get the ring to snap together.

i would have cleaned all the grease off the shaft, cut of the lower bit of the boot, glued it around the shaft, then moved t up to bearing and packed with grease
