What was amazing about this was WHEN it was done. While the pandemic was was still going on. Since no concerts were happening Tyler and Josh planned this livestream experience which I believe Tyler is on record saying it took them 6 months to create/plan. All of the sets were beautifully done. Production and audio were top notch, a TON of lore to dissect, and it was all 100% live.
I love how much thought they put into everything....so much to consume!!! Thank u
if him being on top of a table scares you I can’t imagine what him climbing up the stage to perform car radio during shows would do 😂
For real! He scared me a little at Express Live during Tour de Columbus.
The official video also introduced Trash the dragon and kind of the otherworldliness of the Scales and Icy era.

So after Nico grabbed him at the end of levitate he took back to Dema, this is the next chapter because after the citizens of Dema starting hearing about his escape attempt they were starting to think about giving it a try themselves. The bishops decided, since he was gaining notability, to use Clancy to their advantage. They made him perform music for the citizens of Dema to keep them more satiated in the city. This video is Clancy performing for the citizens of Dema, but you can see that he's still rebelling a bit, when he breaks the glass just before the 2 minute mark and the scream.
The band in the video was the touring band from the Scaled and Icy tour, which was the first tour that Twenty One Pilots added a touring band. There were still a number of songs that were only Tyler and Josh performing.
For this upcoming tour it is just Tyler and Josh.
Tyler wrote this song with and for his brother. So the lyrics are directed towards his brother who wanted to learn how Tyler wrote music. It was too hard for Tyler to explain the process, so they did this song together so that he could show him 💕 And yes, I love the line, “you manifest a ceiling when you shy away.” How often do we get in the way of our own dreams when we second guess ourselves or doubt what we are capable of doing?
The song isn’t lore, but they did the livestream experience during the pandemic when they couldn’t do live concerts. There were a couple BTS videos that you would love! It was a massive undertaking. They rented out the large arena in Columbus OH for a full week and built 5 different soundstages that were each very cinematic.
How it fits into the lore: because of the pandemic, Tyler set aside the album that would have been the final chapter of the Dema storyline, but then the world turned upside down. Tyler didn’t want to put out an album that matched the darkness of the world we found ourselves in. So Tyler wrote it from the perspective of being trapped in Dema under the control of the Bishops. They made Clancy write this album for the citizens of Dema. So it’s much brighter and more saturated, but there’s still dark undertones. We were told that “SAI is propaganda.” And even the name of the album is lore … Scaled and Icy is an anagram for “Clancy is dead.” And this concert was done under the Bishops control.
I loved Tyler’s pink hair! Usually Josh is the one who dyes his hair but under the control of Dema everything is backwards. If you look at any time they pose, it’s Josh on the left / Tyler on the right, except during the SAI era, it was reversed.
The other video that you will ADORE from the livestream experience is the live mashup of Heathens/Trees. It’s stunningly beautiful and both songs take on a completely different vibe, since those are usually ones where they connect with the audience. At this point Tyler was afraid they might never be able to tour again. So there’s a sense of longing and fear of the unknown in the performance.

That was really well put. Your description of Heathens/Trees is perfect. Man, that set was so beautiful and Tyler's singing was probably the best I've ever heard him.
For this last tour they added a few musicians to their show. It really made the concert a whole lot better.
We call them the Scaled and Icy Band 😊 they preformed for the Take Over Tour and Icy Tour. Tyler and Josh would do their thing for 30 min and then the band would come in. They did fantastic

Have you watched the “I am Clancy” primer? This livestream is set when they are made to perform by Dema. The poster for this livestream has “A production of DMA Org” with a picture of Dema.
This video represents the live stream portion of the story. The live stream was lore heavy and a huge part of the story. If you get a chance i really recommend watching it. It had five different stages, choreography and basically felt like watching a play. Later on it was remastered and played in cinemas all over the world.

The whole livestream video (show) is after he gets recaptured in levitate...then (essentially) the shy away video, choker video, then the saturday video and finally the outside before overcompensate
So for some fun fact/lore. Whenever you see a picture or performance by them. Tyler is always standing to the right of Josh. The only time that they switched is in the scaled and icy album and it is a nod to them being controlled by Dema. Also, it is normally only Tyler and Josh on stage. This is also something that changed in scaled and icy. It just adds to the feeling that there is just something not right here

Covid made many bands do this. I frickin went insane when seeing this. So thankful bands really tried hard to feed our little hearts. Josh and Tyler very much fed our hearts during that time. Hugs from Sweden 😊
tyler wrote this song to encourage his younger brother who wanted advice about oursuing his dream of making music.
the guys in the back (Skyler Acord, Dr Blumm, Todd Gummerman and Dan Geraghty) are part of the 'SAI Band', the musicians who they brought on stage for the live performances and tours for the Scaled and Icy album, they're not performing with the band for this album cycle. They have the Dema symbol on their jumpsuits and a picture of one of tyler's tatoos which seems to suggest they're supposed to kinda represent that he's supposed to be working for Dema in these performances.

I think most people have covered everything but yeah this song lyrically not lore but the og mv introduces Trash the dragon who is & is the image on the SAI cover & is part of the lore in the upcoming Mvs.
The livestream is mind blowing they went above & beyond for what they performed for fans during covid lockdown compared to other livestream performances…… Tyler never does things by halves.
Oh boy if you have anxiety about him on a table … he regularly scales the scaffolding at festival performances & has a specific built tower to climb during the finale of car radio performed live.

Loved this reaction! as others have said, the livestream experience itself is a huge part of the lore rather than the song itself. The last we see Tyler, he is once again taken back to Dema by the Bishops. Then the Scaled and Icy era starts, with the entire album being propaganda that Dema is forcing Tyler to make for the other citizens. That is why it is so much more upbeat and bright compared to their other work. As for the real life reason, Tyler had the last album of the Dema story planned, but didn't want to put out anything dark due to the pandemic, so scaled and icy was created. The livestream experience, from what we can tell, is set up to sorta be a televised performance that the bishops are forcing Tyler and Josh to do to entertain and brainwash the people of Dema. There are tons of easter eggs and lore stuff that was really amazing to dissect and experience, and it gives us even more of a glimpse into the innerworkings of Dema. I can't wait for you to see the rest of the videos from this era and what's yet to come from Clancy!

I think this one is in the Story playlist for the setting of the video in Dema which leads into the mv for 'Saturday', rather than the lyrics. The other musicians were with them for the 'Scaled and Icy' live performances and tour only, and aren't part of twenty one pilots. They wanted a more live sound for that particular tour. IIRC Tyler said he was actually worried about falling during the whole Livestream performance as he had brand new boots on that weren't yet really grippy! 😆

What will help you with context on what's coming next is to remember that Nico has recaptured Tyler at the end of Levitate. Then, before SAI was released, we got cryptic messages from TOP saying that SAI was propaganda.
The official vid for Shy Away introduces the character of Trash the Dragon, much like Chlorine was an ancillary character intro to Ned. Think of this all as converging plot lines and the rising action. Other tracks on the albums work to fill out the plotline themes and really provide supporting details, though they may not have direct action in them. The levels of TOP go deep, but no worries, we'll guide you along:)
As you'll hear, the sound of Scaled and Icy is quite different from the rest of their discography. The whole album is really an amalgamation of the Dema storyline and the events of the world 4 years ago... a reflection of the dire time we were in and the lighter sounds TOP thought would be more appropriate for that time. Like so many of us had to do with life when the 'demic hit, Tyler and Josh adapted their storyline and took us on a delightful detour. It is very impressive how well they actually worked it in.
Once you get through the next few vids and the I Am Clancy trailer introducing the release of Clancy, you'll start to have some really big aha moments! Can't wait to watch with ya! Enjoy the Ride! ❤|-/💛

Just because it’s a favorite I’d love to see u react to their 2022 MTV Unplugged. It’s only 30 minutes. They recreated some songs and we got to hear Josh sing! Really different and amazing.

basically shy away is just a performance. a fake song. a fake everything. within the story, the main character is captured and forced to create these fake songs for nico and the niners. they’re more poppy and happy sounding because the niners want you to think youre in a good place when you’re actually suffering. the other band members in black are employees of the niners that are tasked with making sure the band doesn’t go rogue and stays inline. the next songs in the story are Saturday and The Outside which are THE MOST IMPORTANT lore videos thus far. however. i would recommend going back to their album vessel where the story started and listening to the song migraine as that rap song explains the events that happen in the outside music video
migraine actually describes the events of both saturday AND the outside. there is even a sound bite of migraine in the outside music video
The Scaled and Icy album is Dema propaganda. After they took Tyler back at the end of Levitate they forced him to write and perform music, that’s why the whole album is different. It’s poppy and upbeat (mostly) to try and lull the citizens of Dema and distract them from the Bishop’s ultimate goal. The livestream fits into it but really only if you see the whole thing. The official mf for shy away is sorta in the storyline. In it, you can see Tyler’s apprehension about where he is and what he’s doing. Saturday is “technically” the first løre video for this album, but again, once you know the whole story you can see it in almost everything.
