At 22:03 on March 11, Dispatcher Marvin Tate for the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a smoke condition at Cove Plumbing Supply at 26 Morris Ave. Third Assistant Chief Valeo, first on the scene, found a heavy smoke condition and transmitted a working building fire. Chief Marino arrived at the scene and established command and upon arrival Second Assistant Chief Retoske established Operations. Due to wind conditions, building size and contents of highly flammable materials and fire load, multiple mutul aid units were requested. Due to exacerbated fire conditions, in total, 34 mutual aid departments were engaged representing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th Battalions and were joined by Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, Nassau County Haz Mat 2, Nassau County Rehab 1, Nassau County Fieldcom 1 and FDNY Marine Unit 6. The Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all of the EMS agencies including Glen Cove EMS, and mutual aid units as well as the Glen Cove Police, Red Cross, and a special thank you to the FDNY Marine Unit and others that travelled long distances to assist. Due to the swift response of all, no injuries occurred for which we are grateful.
