[MOD IN PROGRESS] Old OTIS Double/Single-File Escalators - Macy's, Union Square - San Francisco, CA

After many breakdowns and heavy use, these OTIS escalators are finally being retired one by one. Schindler is currently replacing every one of these escalators. A few escalators were turned off so customers can walk up and down them since some were already ripped out. In this video, I take a ride on the remaining original escalators and also get to see one of the new ones which has already been put in service. I didn't realize this mod was happening, so I caught these just in time. I will periodically post updated videos of this escalator replacement project.

Wow! This one is tough for me. I'm gonna miss those old Otis escalators. I'm glad I filmed these in 2009.

What's strange is those new Schindlers look like 9700s, the kind you would tend see at a transit station.

Probably due to how parts for this isn’t really made anymore and maintenance cost too

Another bit of history disappearing although with large stores disappearing at a fast rate I am surprised they can justify the cost but I suspect its a requirement due to their age.
