    Ok when I first saw this table idea it didn't click with me, but now I get it. I have no room for a glow forge but this could open up some possibilities. Thanks for sharing. this could be really great!

    With the 500$ off from your code you can send in your glowforge twice without packaging and still just pay the normal price. Nice

      True ... if you want to spend your discount on packaging I guess

      @@AndrewKleinWW Yeah that's stupid you're right. But I'm so broke, I'd probably have to buy a few so I can afford one from all the money I saved - wait, that's even stupider!

    First time I have seen the pass thru demonstrated. That would be a handy feature. I like the third position feature.

    Fun that the ad I got before the video was actually Glowforge and after the video ad was a direct competitor to glowforge.

    Adding a sliding dovetail near the outside edge of each table surface would help stabilize and lock the tables into the same plane.

    That Rockler CA accelerator smells like death! I used for a year and even wearing a respirator i could sometimes smell it. The Titebond works great and doesn't even smell half as nasty as that one.

    Perhaps building a quick ply wooden crate around the polystyrene if needed to send it back, screw together and dismantle to flatten. If safe passage is a concern then this would be better than cardboard anyway. Thanks for the video Andrew

    Andy, do you have to weight the object that you are loading on the heavy side to figure out how much of a counter-weight to add on the other wing or does your design have latitude to incrementally add counter-weights? Or do you have to weight objects being mounted on both sides to balance the loads?

  • @nicklebeezy
    @nicklebeezy Před 2 lety +2

    I've found with my Glowforge that it needs a really flat and rigid surface to sit on. Because it's heavy and mostly hollow the chassis just isn't stiff enough to resist racking or twisting. Even with a 1 inch think dining room table I still needed to shim it in one corner.

    • @AndrewKleinWW
      @AndrewKleinWW  Před 2 lety

      Interesting, well, seemed to work fine on this table. What kind of issues does it cause you?

    • @DanteYewToob
      @DanteYewToob Před 2 lety +1

      @@AndrewKleinWW I would imagine the quality of “prints” would go down quite a bit. The focal point of the laser is incredibly precise and important, and any fluctuations can cause the beam to be either too small and risk burning a hole or too wide and risk pale or under developed spots.
      I’d imagine a setup like this is fine for shop projects and hobbyist quality, but you probably couldn’t achieve the level of detail and fine polish to sell a product made on it or anything.
      This also might be responsible for the slight changes between the segments when you slid the material through.
      Who knows though, it might be worth running a few comparison prints through on the flippy doo and one on a very stable surface…?

  • @ferky123
    @ferky123 Před 2 lety +1

    If the pipes always land in the same place on the middle support why wouldn’t you use a dowel to go inside of the pipe on both sides? It seems that it would be more stable and easier than trying to locate the screw hole.

  • @kaminmiller
    @kaminmiller Před 2 lety

    Was there enough room in the threaded pipe inserts to use as a clamp stop as well? A hole through the horizontal support that lines up with that pipe insert, and insert another threaded pipe for a couple of threads as a giant "thumb screw"? As I browsed the comments before submitting this, it looks like Alan Ferkinhoff had a similar thought.

  • @Digital-Dan
    @Digital-Dan Před 2 lety +3

    I had a colleague once who had the exact opposite view -- packaging should always be discarded as soon as possible. The buildup of various boxes and other packages is a blight on most homes and establishments. Different strokes, for sure.

    • @AndrewKleinWW
      @AndrewKleinWW  Před 2 lety +4

      I agree for almost everything else, a Glowforge is expensive, and will probably need service someday, and is difficult to pack safely without the original box, it’s probably the only thing I’ve ever purchased that I wish I hadn’t reflexively broken apart the packaging.

    "It's a collaboration with April Wilkerson ...". What exactly is April's part? I don't know anyone on CZcams, who manages to be as successful as she, with so little talent of her own. Absolutely ridiculous and overrated! I suppose she doesn't have time to think of anything herself. She's too busy fishing for sponsors.
