    Costlemark Tower in 15 took me literal DAYS (irl, not in-game) to complete, and the most infuriating thing was that the first time I went in, I had to reload my last save because the Jabberwocky boss glitched just like it was mentioned in the video. I also kept getting trapped in a loop leading to the same floor over and over and over again, and it was a literal nightmare fighting off the same hoardes of monsters repeatedly.
    And the fact that I didn't even touch the surface of what lurked in the Subterra of the Pharos, 12's dungeon, has me terrified to go back in the next time I play... I only knew of the mark Ixion, and even he proved too tough a challenge for me. I went back in like 3 times in hopes of defeating him, but if Ixion didn't kill me, it was the huge toads down there with their poison abilities ㅠㅠ

    I’d add the hardest section of Henne Mines in XII. You will need to have obtained 10 espers to even gain access there, then the mine will throw you some of the hardest enemies plus the last esper Zodiark who can instakill your whole party (unless you are smart enough). But it’s worth going all the way to get some of the best equipment, gaining access to Zodiark, remaining technicks, another ribbon, rare items, Zodiac Spear, missing magicks, etc. (In The Zodiac Age version). I can’t decide if this is harder than Great Crystal or Pharos Subterra. All are manageable but hard as hell.

      All of the Ascian names are based off of the "Scions of Light" from Ivalice based Final Fantasy games. Their Ivalice titles also hint at their personalities they show in FF14. Also the red glyphs they have over their faces are just the glyphs used to summon the FF12 summons but flipped upside down. Which is another hint of their Ivalice origins. As each Ascian was the counterpart to each Esper. With both representing the same Zodiac sign. As the Zodiacs played a large role in the mythos of Ivalice. For example Zalera, the angel of Death and its counterpart Emet-Selch, the angel of Truth both represent different aspects of the Zodiac sign Gemini. Zodiark is also from Ivalice. With him abd Elidibus both representing the hidden 13th Zodiac Sign, Ophiacus the Serpent also known as Serpentarius.

    I surprised the Crystal Tower/World of Darkness combo didn't make on here. In the original version of III, there are no save points in the Crystal Tower, Xande casts meteor meaning you have to do some extra grinding to have a chance at beating him.
    Then the Cloud of Darkness will kick your ass, and the game gives you no indication you can't win the fight so may waste valuable items. Then you are forced into the World of Darkness without getting the chance to leave the Crystal Tower or save. In order to render the Cloud of Darkness beatable you have to defeat four more bosses who are stronger than Xande. The final stretch of the game has enemies that hit just as hard as the bosses you have to defeat to weaken the Cloud of Darkness, who still no pushover.

Eventually, I looked up a guide and found out that at some point in the blocks moving, one of them will be marked by a small circle on the floor and that's the one that needs to be selected to finish the puzzle.
      Thankfully, I didn't experience any bugs and the jabberwocky died and cued the ending. I do think that fight was pretty challenging, but I sadly can't remember any specifics. I'm slowly making my way back through the game, though, starting from scratch.

    I sometimes wonder if the developers of Final Fantasy 12 were sadists or they thought that all of their players were a bunch of masochists. The ridiculous requirements to get a lot of the rare weapons that often had like a 2% chance of showing up and permanently disappear without any hint that you may have missed them, the massive dungeons like Underground Pharos and Great Crystal that were a pain to navigate, and several bosses that were designed to take hours to fight even if you never died and had to fight them again.

    • @acerimmer8338
      @acerimmer8338 Před 18 dny

      I must be a masochist, as I loved everything about those dungeons and bosses. They really rewarded being smart w/ your gambits and understanding the ins/outs of combat. But I do agree the RNG for getting rare weapons (whether chests or item drops) was HORRIBLE design. That's why whenever I replay the game, it's on PC w/ mods that remove the RNG weapons. Makes the game nearly perfect.

    • @cinedapt

      The random rate for chests were not just to appear, but a second value of the contents. So, a low percent to appear, and a low percent for the good contents. Yes, sadism.

    Pitioss. It made me motion sick and is the only dungeon I didn't finish.

    • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Před měsícem

      I can definitely understand the motion sickness. I too get motion sickness with video games, unfortunately, and have to limit myself to an hour or two of playtime or else I get headaches.
      I did manage to complete Pitioss, though! I didn't have unlimited time to do the dungeon naturally, so I used a guide. The guide was 40 minutes...my run still took me 4 hours. It wasn't that I didn't know what to do, it was getting Noctis to do it! Noctis was not meant to do platform jumping, lol. My nerves were shot doing that dungeon, and I remember my hands just freezing from being on edge so much.
      But, if you've played FF XVI and used the rings given at the beginning for things like auto-attack and auto-dodge, you got a taste of what happened if you finished the Pitioss dungeon. Running the dungeon gave you the Genji Gloves for a 30% buff against elemental magic. You also collected a lot of the oracle coins in there, which could be taken to Altissia to be traded for ribbons, which nullified all status ailments. You won't gather enough coins in the outside world to give a ribbon to each party member, so unless you want to babysit one of the characters (ahem, Prompto!), that alone makes it worth going in.
      Finishing the dungeon gave the black hood. There used to be a hack to just get to the very ending of the dungeon, as the ending is actually right above the beginning, but I never could do it properly, so I had no choice but to run the whole thing. The black hood allowed Noctis to both auto-dodge attacks and he never ran out of stamina.
      Also by the ending of the game, if you've kept up with Ignis' cooking, you should have unlocked his lasagna al forno. While the Genji Gloves are good, his lasagna provides a 100% buff against elemental magic. The secret dungeons give you a camp site every ten floors and his lasgna easily lasted me through to the next campsite, making me almost over-powered for all of the end-game dungeons.

    @OverlordZeroULTIMA Před měsícem +1

    Idk if this would count as a dungeon, but anyone even try to reach and fight Feral Chaos in Dissidia Duodecim? The boss himself is gonna be overpowering your level, even if you're already at the highest, and even the fights are all above max - if not maxed out. You do get a team of 5 to choose from, but Feral Chaos will honestly keep beating you up if he gets a single shot. His moves are some of the most combo-making I've seen in the game, and the boss fight itself is a pain.
    It took me a few tries to actually finish the final final fight (you actually fight him twice, but the first time isn't near as bad as the ultimate boss), but honestly, it's worth it if you want to control the big bad and hear his theme song in your own battles. Legit the theme would get SO GOOD and then it was like "alright, play time's OVER!". Always got mad when that part would play and then I'd lose, lol. Also, his special move is super insane - and if you didn't know it, you'd think your game broke but it was actually all part of the attack. So y'know, if he uses it or if you do...Don't worry. He's just aiming for THE KILL, lol.
    My first win was with a low leveled Golbez; Forgot what level he was but he certainly wasn't maxed. Boy got so many levels after that win, I believe. Or maybe not many at all, I don't remember. But I remember spamming the same move to keep Feral Chaos away from me, LOL. Decided later on to pit mine against him at max level, but idk why...I won again, but forgot if it was actually with him or another character...
    Honestly though, the recollection of FFI's dungeon brought back memories for sure. I don't know what stage of the boss I'm at, but yeah...I'm done trying to finish it, LOL. Feel like I've done the dungeon in XII as well but don't remember the shadow guy. The giant horse seemed familiar though. I wasn't ready for XII's set up so pretty much most of the game gave me hell. :P

    Yeah, one of the odd things playing the Advanced version of FF6 just after playing the PR was the feeling of just how...tacked on the Advanced content was. Like, it's just extending out the numbers. There's no storyline, no dialogue for most of it, just more mechanics, and even then, nothing new really, save the one dragon that requires it's MP drained as opposed to HP.
    I can see why the PR didn't include it, since in the end, all it really did was take away some of the players limits, as the Dragon's Den even took away the choices you were forced to make in weapons, as it included an ultimate weapon for everyone, whereas in the regular game, thanks to so many sword users, you had to actually pick carefully who got what.

    Pharos is pretty straightforward as a dungeon really. Its just long. Crystal Core, the dungeon before it, is what should have been on this list. In order to navigate it you have to realize that the names of the cardinal directions are loosely based on English and Sanskrit words (mostly Sanskrit), and that the names of the locations are based on prehistoric periods and plant names like Triassic and Xylem. None of this is communicated to the player, no one except no-life nerds knows about plant anatomy and the order that prehistoric periods belong in, and they dont even give you a map to try to figure it out for yourself. If you had a map you could figure out what the words mean at least.

  • @twelfthknight
    @twelfthknight Před měsícem +5

    Personally the Crystal Tower tops my list, specifically the one in the DS FFIII remake. Not because it's exceedingly difficult relative to the other optional dungeons listed, but precisely because it isn't optional that its sudden spike in difficulty really hits you in the face. I think it's the only mandatory dungeon in the franchise where I'd advise a new player to leave it and grind.

    • @PMbarbieri

      Well, one of two for sure
      The cave to get the earth fang, I forget the name of it off the top of my head, is the other one of those locations where it's best to leave and grind, especially if you even fathom trying to kill the enemies in there, just for dark knight job levels and a bit more exp. Also for the boss in there as quake at that point in time to a party that quite possibly isn't even level 40 yet is extremely devastating

    The Deep Dungeon from 14 also has two caveats. First, the dungeon is split into sets of 10 floors, and each set has a time limit of 60 minutes. And second, to access the floors 101-200, you must not get a game over a single time during your run, otherwise it's back to floor 1. If you manage to do this while solo, you get a "Necromancer" title. One person managed to do this on every single job in the game.

    FFXI dungeons can be really dangerous due to having high level enemies in them (ex: you are lv8, in the 2nd windurst mission there are lv80+ enemies where you are going). I would say one of the worst to navigate are Davoi & Castle Oztraja for newcomers. Confusing layouts with difficult enemies when you are meant to go there, and worse, TRUESIGHT/SOUND - normally in XI you can get Invisible/Sneak status to hide, but enemies with the "true" moniker will always detect you no matter what.

    forgot the worst part of deep dungeon in XIV. For palace of the dead after floor 50 if you die at all its game over and you need to start back from floor 50 at max. Plus how you went in is how you have to keep going. So if a attempt is made with friends or acquaintances and the group never picks it back up after stopping on floor 120 that's it, run is dead. you cant keep going solo or with a new group. You dont need to kill every enemy for the passage to open up but once floors get high regular enemies mind as well be bosses in themselves.
