  • Michelle, Hand expert for Virtual Hand Care, explains why your fingers my curl or bend after a broken wrist. I get asked this question all the time so I wanted to share with you some of the reasons why your fingers may become curled into a bent position after a broken wrist or wrist fracture.
You may be experiencing a hard time straightening your fingers all the way after your wrist injury and this can be due to many factors such as lack of movement, flexed finger posture, swollen fingers, and much more!
Luckily, learning why your fingers are curled can help you get them moving and free from stiffness. Check out this video to learn more!

WHY would a surgeon NOT tell you this in detail?...they just say 'you gotta move your fingers,,,but I was in severe pain after surgery CRPS..and it was 3 weeks before they got me into a PT...and STILL after 10 months I'm stiff...BUT in 1 session of YOUR excercizes and you saying 'apply heat first' I am seeing breakthrough!...thank you for this blessing...wishing you continued success in all your God-given dreams.

      RSD or CRPS syndrome.
Try alternate water therapy. Dip in hot water for five minutes and against for another five minutes in ice cold water and back to hot water.
I tried and it was painful for nearly three or four months, till Pastor and wife together prayed and it disappeared, by Grace of God.

I wiggled and bent my fingers during the last four weeks, but nobody told me about the importance of trying to straighten them. I was just released to ditch the splint, and I was given exercises. It is very difficult to do the motions requiring the straight fingers. Now I know why! Thank you!!!

For example, can see say that MCP ROM will increase by 20 degrees, PIP will increase by 10 and then DIP will increase by 5 within two weeks while making short term goals for our patients after such an injury? The best way to describe it is a charley horse type pain. It's horrible. I move my fingers and spread them apart (this doesn't cause pain). It's weird how i find that my fingers curl unconsciously, so I've been stretching several times each day. I'm now in a splint, which allows more movement for my lower arm, wrist, and hand. Also, much of my work requires typing on a computer keyboard, and its getting better.
