    I am going to add an additional toggle which on the plastic housing to the left of the faulty speedometer. There is room for the recessed wiring there. I guess my awd switch is bad as connecting the red wire with the white stripe from the speedometer and intercepting the gray wire with white stripe from the awd switch does the trick with now functional front hubs but it is full time. No big deal really. It's worth having the 4 wheel drive functional.

  • @GraceEngineering
    @GraceEngineering Před rokem

    I have a question. I am wiring in a DPDT toggle switch to choose between factory and "Plow" mode with the mods you are doing here. Problem is having cut 4 wires (red/w, grey, brn, brn/w), I have 8 bare wire ends and the switch has 6 connections. Can I keep the grey and brown/w wires connected to their respective wires for running plow mode? If I understand the power properly, the AWD system simply adds a ground connection on the brown/w wire so it should be okay to leave that wire connected to itself as origina. For this bypass to work, can I leave the grey connected to itself and run a pigtail to the switch? Or does the grey wire need to be completely separated from itself for this to work? I been working on equipment a long time and can figure most things out but this one thing I am not sure about. If it has to be separated, I would need to add a second switch and keep them timed or use a triple pole double throw switch which would be hard to find or a NC relay that would not draw battery with the key off. Thank you to anyone who can solve this for me.

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you sir. It will act just like factory on demand. The system is a locker type, both front wheels are locked together. The engagement happens when the rear slips, it all happens in a fraction of a second. It all works off the Hilliard clutch, now the units with the hub clutches tend to not always lock together however a unit with central clutch locks both always. Once wheel speed is equal it will disengage until wheel slip accrues again. The system is in my opinion best 4x4 system available for a long time although the can am visco lok is better however is a newer designed system.

    Will this for 2000 polaris magnum 500. I tried to fix the speedometer by changing the transistors but I cannot find any transistors. Using a voltmeter, I can tell they are bad but so hard to replace. Too bad radio shack is gone?

    will this work on a 2004 sportsman. the video and Many comments saying it worked, seem to be those with the earlier model with the "hub style" awd. 97-02 I believe.

      I’m curious though the sportsman always had a speedometer and never came with the 330. Are you sure you have a sportsman. Also if it is a 99 sportsman they use a analog speedometer and a circuit board for wiring. Does your machine have said circuit board under hood.

      Thanks for your replying back and it is a 335 sportsman. I was checking the wiring going to the front hubs and I had power going to them and it was like a magnet when turn the switch on,so I put it back together put fresh oil in the hubs. I had it on jackstand cranked it up put it in gear and turn the 4wheel on gave it fuel and all four wheels turn so I thought i had it fix.I took it on a road test pull it against a tree put it in 4 wheel drive and gave it some fuel the back wheel would spin but the front would not engage so I’m lost.If you would do a video that would be great.Would the override switch have anything to do with it or do you think front clutches are the problem.If you could do a video on bypass the speedometer on this model that would be great. Thanks a lot.

      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety

      Hi again. Your very welcome. So to assist with your concern against tree the hubs will not lock if they’re not rotating. It takes 1/3 of wheel spin to lock the clutch in. When jacked in air they’ll lock everytime do to no force on tire, but on ground that tire needs to be moving to lock. It all works off of rotational speed of shaft compared to rotational speed of wheel, automatically engaging and disengaging as needed. Turning switch on activates the system doesn’t necessarily lock it in, combination of electrical and mechanical. I think I should do a video on how this system works, I gets lots of questions on it. Best way to test get that bad boy in some mud or snow and let it dig lol.

    I have a question, when this bypass is completed and I hit the AWD switch the quad goes into 4x4, but when I’m finished using 4x4, I can hit my AWD switch to the off position and my quad goes back using only two wheels??? Or does this bypass stays in all time 4x4 when in use!!

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety +2

      It will turn it on and off as it should just like factory. When it’s on front wheels aren’t locked unless there’s loose of traction. Turning switch on energize the hun coil which will lock hun helix automatically when slip happens. Then when slipping is no longer happening release hubs. It’s a strange system lol. But when it’s off you’ll be in two wheel

    when testing the awd switch does atv need to be in first gear or can you do this test while in nutral ?

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety +1

      I test them in forward gear, little reminder that in reverse it will not send power to switch unless the override button is pushed. A faulty reverse switch and or override button can cause no power at switch.

      At the end of video I show how to verify system is working. If you have power and ground at plug then your issue is likely with the coils in the hubs or diff. If you have no power at plug and your machine has the speedometer in video this will correct your issue.

      Unfortunately no. If engagement is happening on its own it’s so to the clutchs in hub being bad (wheel hub equipped unit) or the cage internally in diff (hub centric unit)
