Mavis Staples was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017. She is 82 and still going strong. I love her smoky voice, you always know it's her. That's her father playing guitar and the backup singers are her sisters.

And for something really really special, check out their performance with The Band of "The Weight" from the 1976 concert film The Last Waltz. PS. The Staples Singers also liven up the 1973 concert film Wattstax and the 2021 film Summer of Soul, the later featuring the moment when Mahalia Jackson passed the baton to Mavis Staples. As one reviewer described it: "The two swap verses and then team up for the third. When they do, their intertwined voices glisten like daybreak sunbeams shooting through a valley."

Who would ever think a little white girl in the years of 1970 & '71' could make the kind of moves at this age?? 🤗 Well this one right here on your Utube page DID!! Everything I ever learned, Dancing and singing came straight from Motown!! When I got older these amazing dance moves paid off. I'm gonna be 62 in August of this year, and I can still out dance most kids today! Not bragging, just fact. Except if you were a America of color.
Read about what quarter back Doug Williams or b-ball Icon Dr J. Julius Erving endured being black in the south.
I am a old white dude, that was not exposed to unjustified hate!
But I was there. This was long before progress.
The reason to love these times is the music.
Songs like. Black and White by 3 Dog Night & Brother Louie by Hot Chocolate.
These artist were addressing the elephant in the room.
      Racism!
Music was the beginning of an end of this hate.
I hope I live to see the day when this fight is over.

@@felyjohnson1571 I’ve been black all my life lol…and while i’ve never experienced any racism, I do know that there are people who choose to do evil things to others because of their skin color. However, life is what you make of it. You can choose to see things from that lens or you can choose to believe that there are good people who choose to judge others by the content of their character. So for me?…it’s always a great time to be black despite knowing that there will always be someone willing to oppress, and depress and do wicked things. And i’m happy regardless of great music, songs or anything else for that matter. But what B-ball dude and others like him experienced in the south was very unfortunate however, if they didn’t still feel blessed to be black during those times….despite all the hatred in the world, then someone failed them miserably. So once again…the 70’s, years prior and years after will render the same sentiment form me! ♥️

(This one was 1972! 50 years ago!!) She's STILL AMAZING ON STAGE!!! (I kid you not.) The voice. The rhythm. The energy. The legend.
She has STILL got it goin' ON! (She took us THERE!!!) I was so happy I got the chance to see Miss Mavis. Her set was fantastic.

I don't how I missed this reaction. I love the Staple Singer and this is one of my favorite songs by them. This past Saturday we actually toured the recording studio where this song / album was recorded. It was so cool. Tons of great artist recorded there too. It's called Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. If y'all haven't checked out Howlin Wolf and the song is Smokestack Lighting check it out. It's another phenomenal artist and song recorded from that same studio. 🤟😎😎🤟🎶🎶🎶😉
