  • Martin Taylor (bit.ly/2GAQTQK) interviews legendary guitarist Scotty Moore, who played guitar for Elvis Presley during the first part of his career on some Elvis's most famous recordings ("Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", and "Heartbreak Hotel" among others). Moore is credited as being a pioneer of rock 'n' roll lead guitar playing.
The interviewer, Martin Taylor, an instructor at the ArtistWorks Guitar, is also a renowned musician. Martin Taylor is a Grammy nominated fingerstyle guitarist, solo jazz guitar virtuoso and online guitar teacher. Pat Metheny says Martin Taylor is "one of the most awesome solo guitar players in the history of the instrument" while Jeff Beck thinks Taylor "out-shred's all of us put together....I've never seen anything like it". As one of the world's most popular online guitar teachers and providers of guitar lessons online, Taylor now helps people in over 58 countries learn how to play guitar and become better guitarists.
Now you can learn guitar directly from solo jazz guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor... at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home.

Scotty died yesterday aged 84.Scotty's early contributions to Elvis' Sun recordings are legendary. His innovative and inspirational licks will go down in history. I never tire of listening to his guitar work and he was the template for many of today's guitar legends. The 1968 NBC TV Special showed him in great form alongside Elvis. I will never forget him.
    R.I.P. Scotty.

This bloke is one of the most important players to have ever picked up the instrument. And he's obviously such a lovely fellow. He seems to be almost unaware of how much he means to us all. Incredible.

He played by ear and wasn’t a trained musician. I wonder if, in the dawn of Rock & Roll, that was necessary to manifest those very early innovated guitar licks. Would a trained musician know how to veer off the path to generate the necessary Rock & Roll sound? Probably not.

Scotty Moore...without him Elvis would not have been the so called King of Rock and Roll...

Scotty acts as if he has no idea how historic this first recording session was and is. Getting the details out of him was like pulling teeth. I would think by this time in his life he would have known how important and iconic his influence on rock and roll actually was. Is it because Scotty was such a humble man or was it that he just doesn't understand what he did for the future of rock and roll guitar players?
