How did this video go live just as I was searching for dark descent videos 🤯
You hear the call of the hive…
284k subs, one or two are bound to be searching at the time of upload.
I got some dark descent gameplay videos recommended to me recently. You are not alone…
Played it last year, it's amazing. The tension is constant, strategy is absolutely necessary and you have to think and make decisions very quickly, otherwise things go south in a moment. Sometimes they go regardless. Recommended for sure, it's underrated and deserves more atention.
Nice video!
The fact that game didnt even get nominated is shocking. Easily one of my favorite games of all time!
I generally don’t play Alien games because in my 40+ years I have been burned by disappointment many times, so I thank you for the synopsis
It's an awesome game would go as far as to say the joint best alien game along with isolation well worth a play through you won't be disappointed
You should try it. It's really good
@scottbrettell5130 Aliens Fireteam Elite is good too
@chination1796 I didn't Diss like FTE but not in the same league as isolation and dark desent for me
@scottbrettell5130 It's more fun to blast Aliens to pieces in Fireteam Elite 😂
Very glad I managed to finish Dark Descent just a few week ago before this video came out and not have to worry about spoilers! I really enjoyed Dark Descent and was looking forward to your videos on it, I had a great time with the gameplay and the lore was fascinating and felt like a wonderful love letter to the older Alien comics and novels with the psychic humans/xenos and xenomorph worshippers. Not to mention that final mission with the Titan Xenomorph and the Space Jockey city, wonderfully unsettling and eerie! Maeko is definitely up there for great and resourceful heroes we've had in the franchise. Really hope we get a sequel continuing its themes and building on its gameplay!
That game was such a surprise hit for "us", right? I thought it would be garbage. But damn, if this ain't one of the best Alien games ever. The atmosphere is so good, you can touch the tension. Did not really think a strategy game can be this terrifying.
Oi...vey 😅
Hopefully they,ll giv us apredator version 😉👽🤞
I do not play video games. I am a bit of an Alien(s). I have read the comics and a couple of novels. This cult aspect is very interesting. I have seen it in those old comics. I think it could find its way into movies. Something new on the screen besides Marines, Weyland-Yutani and people running away screaming and dying. Thank you, once again, for this excellent content. Take care and be well.
Had a blast playing this game, although I do wish you got to fight the giant xeno at the end
"A Glorious... DEATH!"
"Do it for Marlow!"
Been playing missions on Aliens: Dark Descent. It's a surprisingly fun game, and I wished they've made more missions and add some more customization options to the Marines.
Still haven't completed Dark Descent. So good but some parts are so hard for me. Great video
Dark Decent... perfect except the whole telepathy thing.
Agreed. I thought that was silly, but otherwise I loved the game. As silly as the telepathy thing was, its frankly not as bad as the nonsense from Ridley Scott's prequels.
They just did it wierd , in the comics there was allways a degree of the xenomorph hive mothers being able to telepathically torment humans during the xenomorph infestation of earth.
You guys are gay af
@@filmbuff2777"nonsense" yeah because exploring the creation of humanity, ambiguous origins of the Xenomorph (because i feel David made a copy), and generally saying "yeah god ain't real bro" is soooo "nonsense".
@@filmbuff2777 those are good movies though, ""filmbuff""
Love the alien and predator videos! Keep up the great work
Aliens Dark Descent was an amazing experience in my opinion. I've been a fan of Tindalos since their release of the game version of Mordheim. They did a stellar job with the Aliens IP and I hope to see more from them soon.
Dark Descent is a fantastic game. I've played it through three times now, so many cool moments. I'm not overly bothered about the cultist storyline. I like the nods to the comics, though
Yea boy I've been waiting for a new narration
Criminally underrated game imo. Must play if you're a fan of the franchise.
Nice!
More ALIEN Content.
I want more Earth wars content please 🙏
I thought Earth Wars was over.
And also some Aliens Colonial Marines comic series
@@italbadboy4382 absolutely 💯
Earth Wars is over. Watch the Ryushi videos. THATS the AVP we should have gotten, not the trash movies.
@@TheJMBon Both films we,re good i enjoyed them
I honestly think you’re one of the best narrators / creators on the site. Any chance of you doing a series covering the full marvel / alien run like you have with earth war?
Was a pretty good game. I thought the basic story ideas were pretty good and intriguing even, although the execution was clunky in some areas.
If story was tightened up a little, would make for a great film. The telekinesis bonds starting to be thought possible between aliens and some vulnerable humans; and the cult nature and attempt to integrate alien embryos into the human body in their religious indoctrination, were really interesting ideas.
This game is so badass. I’m like 90% done with it… really need to get back on it
I loved Dark Descent =D
ALMOST a perfect game for me.
Finally someone doing a video on this that knows what they are talking about
This game actually surprised me, I didn't think itd be good since it's RTS but I got addicted
I was wondering when you'd cover this. Always found the story of this game interesting.
Hoping they make a sequel exploring more. I was hooked on this one for awhile. Will go back to my 2nd file when i knock a few more out of my backlog
Love these extended universe stuff.
All while we impatientlty wait on Alient Romules.
I just finished my play through of Dark Descent last week, this video could not have dropped at a better time!
I did finish the game not long ago and could not really put it down ones I started, not only was the gameplay really fun but also the story that really did kick off dragged me in so I just wanted to know what happened next. As also you said I do draw inspiration from many of the old Dark Horse comics, like Earth Wars and The Destroying Angels. Great game, if you are a Alien fan it is almost a must play.
I really enjoyed Aliens: Dark Descent. In fact, I just finished a second playthrough and New Game+ campaign mode which was a lot of fun for me!
Yes a new video!! Thank you Alien Theory!!
YEEEEEESSSSS finally another Aliens: Dark Descent lore video!
thank you for your work :)
I was wondering when we could see some Dark Decent lore vids. I loved this game so much. It had all the beats of an Alien movie, though I really wanted it to be longer I was mostly happy with how it went down except for the ending. It felt like the devs wrote themselves into a corner with the last level because with the hardware I was packing, there was no way that thing at the end would have lasted sixty seconds with plasma guns and RPGs. Overall though, this game was a delight to play and I really hope that the studio gets to make a sequel because everything worked here and it is one of the best Alien games Ive played.
The game was a blast. An Aliens continuation we all deserved. 10/10 for me.
Haven't played Dark Descent yet but I assumed the cultists were mindless. It is more terrifying that they still have their own consciousness in tact.
Wiuld love to see more media content like this; as well as an Earth War movie or TV series
Wonderful game. Next to Alien Isolation greatest game ever.
Dark descent was excellent. I had low hopes for it, but ended up loving jt and playing to completion 3 times.
Great game, highly enjoyed it. Haven't had this much fun since Isolation.
My only request is that we do more with Phalanx, now THAT would make a great video game
Playing it right now for the 1st time.
Not sure what's more stressing, the Xenomorph bugs or the technical bugs.
Good game though, hope there will be more updates & DLC, story Add-Ons. A digital comic just for the game would be nice, like a prequel.
Great piece of lore for the Alien universe.
Id say the main Big Alien is almost a direct design of the Snake Alien/Xenomorph Toy Line🤯😁Awesome👍👍👍Thank you @AlienTheory❤❤❤
thanks for the video
Just finished this, pretty enjoyable :)
Dark decent was a very good game
Reminds me of the Genstealer cultists from the Warhammer 40.000
This story would be an amazing Aliens movie.
Loved watching the playthtough and cutscenes of this game.
There's more than a little bit of Alien: The Destroying Angels in this one. TDA is one of the best EU comics out there, made before Aliens was filmed. To me it was always the better path to take the universe rather than the angry space hornets Aliens turned the Xenomorph into. To see people in the modern age trying re-infuse the setting with the more cosmic horror elements from TDA and Earth War is nothing but a positive development. Because unless there's something more to the Xenomorphs than them just being a particularly inefficient zombie plague, there's really no threat from them for humanity as a whole. Earth War did a wonderful job of being utterly nihilistic about the state of human society and psychology and TDA made the Xenomorphs part of a sort of deistic dark force of the ultimate Fermian filter. Both of these are so much better than the endless schlock of military romance pulp fiction most of the games and stories serve up.
Last week i pre ordered my copy of Aliens extended i opted for the £119package i can,t wait to receive my Blu-ray copy along with the bonus feature bundles included
Fantastic game. And yes, I’d love to see the idea of cultists explored in a film or the tv show. It would be fresh territory and add to the lore.
I really enjoyed DD. Took a lot of it's game play mechanics from the Alien RPG. Which is also a lot of fun.
The ending left a LOT of unanswered questions though. Not sure if they were hoping for an expansion or sequel or something but I felt it kinda left me hanging. But hey, same with Covenant.
hooooly crap, i would love to see something like this in a limited series. this is amazing
In Greek myth, Lethe is the name of a river in Hades that will make someone forget if they drink its waters.
Cerberus is the guard dog of Hades.
Cassandra is the name of an Apollonian priestess who can give true prophecy but is cursed to never be believed.
Otago is Māori for “isolated village.”
Olduvai has significance as a reference to a famous archeological dig site where man ancient human remains have been found.
Marlowe means “driftwood” or “remnants of a lake”
I loved this game. The telepathy elements were silly though, but I had so much fun playing this game that it doesn't ruin it for me.
Love the Alien content
Seeing these cultists made me think of Alien 3 and Golic.
I would like to see an Alien game where you would control the hive and take over a planet. Even an Alien RPG would be great. Further note, I would like to see a game just the Colonial Marines in it, no xenomorph. A good example would be the Linna 349 campaign
"IT WAS THE DRAGONNNNN!"
reminds me of a Darkhorse comic. They took the human susceptibility to greed and carismatic figures and tied it in the with aliens to make a society that was the worst of all worlds....that most people didn't know about.
1:21 'gosh darn it!!! DON'T look atthe camera, you're gunna ruin the shot!!'.
This is some cool detailed back story to a very hard game!!! Lol.
cool video!
I love the game overall. It does feel more like an 80s-90s Alien comic in its storytelling, and the gameplay is incredibly well done, unlike the same Rinse and Repeat aspect of a lot of the FPS games that dominate the franchise. It’s second to Alien Isolation for me!
I quite enjoyed the game and it's story. It was a very welcome change to the run and gun style of the first person shooters.
Loved this game!
One could argue the entire alien franchise is Weyland yutani being telepathically manipulated by Xenomorph masterminds
great game. need sequel! thank you for your video
This is the first AT vid that I have stopped halfway through, because I wanted to go play the game and see the resolution of a the telepathic daughter plotline for myself. (I am particularly thinking about one of the books in regards to this).
Moo
I would like to see Hayes commissioned as a Marine Lieutenant Colonel in a sequel.
The cultists didnt interest me - We have enough unanswered questions on the plate without cultists mudding the waters even more.
Isn’t that just the drawer of all of the alien World unanswered questions but I do see your point
I wonder if we ever see an Alien King. Not Rogue, an actual Alien King. He has a toy and his backstory is great. Imagine him leading Praetorians to battle. Badass.
Never heard Lethe pronounced that way. My initial exposure to the word was from the Dark Tranquility song Lethe. They are a Melodic Death Metal band from Sweden.
I'll never understand how games can keep on making bangers while movies have completely destroyed themselves. 8:45 Same in the books I believe but it might be more scienced based like Aliens 4. I've never even heard of this I'm a booomer now lol. I played AvP it was fun. I clicked because I like your other alien videos.
Great game, made for a good few nights of stressful and anxiety inducing entertainment
The blood once again is the key. Ripley 8 showed this, as her blood was too acidic for incubation by a facehugger; the Xenos knew this and moved past her; the facehuggers gave her no thought, as the embryo it carried couldn't gestate in that host.
The chest orb is an embryo that's merged and in stasis; the DNA connection has been made and the Xenos recognize this. The process is an unrelaized Ripley 8, or a Predator with the Xeno's long life, strength and healing properties while unmasked to the Xenos, to continue the hunt. The Engineers also merged with the Xenos DNA and advanced their race.. while worshiping the Deacon Xeno.
I have almost burned the game lately.
I love to deploy Marine squadrons into bug hunts between missions.
Especially before the mission on Pioneer Station.
You still have no time limit to finish the game so you can act with all the previous locations as kinda a sandbox.
At that point in the game moreover you can have almost all the Xenomorph forms available except for the warriors.
Usually I put togheter a squad and send it to Dead Hills with 3 sentry guns.
There must be a tech with mines so I can form a perimeter.
I usually place my men in the corridor that joins the Admin Center to the Traffic Control.
It's a long and dark corridor full of trash and obstacles.
Put two of the sentry guns at the south ending of the corridor while another one to guard the entrance of the Traffic Control complex. Mines are placed over the whole place.
Then it starts the game.
The squad is placed at the north ending of the corridor. Every time I can, I use a motion tracker to attract Xenomorphs to start a hunt and move closer to a massive onslaught.
Each time I put my Marines roughly in front of the north entrance of the corridor with flares and ready to fire.
At the end of the onslaught there's also to face a Praetorian or a Crusher... Better if it's a Praetorian. If you don't kill those things, they call other xeno to attack you giving more xp to your squad.
But, of course, depending on the veterancy of your Marines, these could have not enough ammo to deal with these creatures.
If it happens, expect victims. These things don't joke around and it's usually hard to stop those who try to kidnap your men... If they don't die before due to acid burns and bites and other injuries.
Sentry guns can finish the job in case, but it's a long shoot every time.
Maybe you're planning to form up a specific Marine but it's also the guy who dies in the first engagement... so you have to start anew or just carry on with those who remains.
And these fanatics of the Darwin Era are everywhere in the Foundry level.
They are also moving into big groups but... Xeno onslaughts can even end up with the creatures attacking these cultists and dragging them all in their nests.
Busy little creatures.
And unfortunately there's no way to destroy those nests. I've tried to mine the entrances of those holes, but xenos pop up, blow up mines and the next one can just roam away free as a bird.
Maybe this could be a good thing to add to a sequel game. Chance to get rid of the nests could be great to control and clean areas of the map.
But my two favorite levels are always the same: Pioneer Station and Jackson Landing.
First one is a pure, canonical and spectacular while short mission in a space station. It almost looks like playing Alien Isolation.
One of the peak of tension you can reach is right at the start when you explore the lower decks in search of the elevator to reach the living quarters. It's all dark and shadows, and silence reigns undisturbed except for that damn motion tracker. And when it start blipping it dictates also the bouncing of your heart.
Damn... It was just a rat.
The other mission at Jackson Landing is unique. You land in the middle of a war, and in particular a siege between Xenomorphs and WY Commandos.
And they initially seems to be able to stand against the threat.
Wandering around the infested city is an unique experience to see how it may look like a prosperous WY colony. Full of activities, vehicles, people, with the rain that falls every time... there's even some trucks of the police, corpses shows desperate resistances here and there, but the city itself is now a huge hive.
Then the Pharos Spire... the fortress of the Commandos. Damn, why we can't have a mod or a DLC to get those WY Commando skin for our Marines? I would love to deploy those Commandos. Like a sort of rogue team that left WY and joined the Marines...
I mean after all, except for the Marines and Marshalls, every characters of Alien saga is a WY employee. Some are bad guys, but others are good guys. Like Stern.
Why we can't have a story about some of these Commandos give up and rebel against WY and find their way out of the usual corporate mess?
And by the way, the basic idea of having a story where you play as a single Commando or as team of Dog Catchers against those folks of the Darwin Era and late the Xenomorphs could still be great.
I won't stop to tell this.
By the way, I've ended up making two distinct squads. One is made up by real Marines, the other is made up by former Commandos.
There's even Hector Stone as Sergeant. 😎😏
I love this game. Can't simply stop playing it. And thinking that it's basically over and even made with plenty of bugs... But still a great title.
I mean they even introduced a new APC for the Marines, the Synthetics are actually threats in the game and there's also the WY version of the Cheyenne dropship! It's amazing! Absolutely outstanding.
The campaign itself have an excellent storyline, the fact that you don't have to fight just the Xeno make it a game more dynamic and dramatic.
I mean, other than all the classes of Xeno available... and there are some... You have to fight also Synthetics, Cultists and WY Commandos.
Isn't that great?
Ok. My post went too long to.
But I really appreciated your video. Excellent as always. Love it. 👍
As far as Alien games go Dark Descent and Isolation are the best. Both story and gameplay wise.
I really like these deep dives into games in the Alien universe. Dark Descent was one of my favourite games last year.
Have you thought of diving into the Alien RPG material? The recent book 'Building Better Worlds' was great, and I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on the things 'explored' in that book.
" _Mah-RINES!_ "
I watched a playthrough of this game, that cultist cracks me up. But I was disappointed that the cultists just... didn't do much.. and the culmination of the story... very lackluster.
Spoilers below..
I was also disappointed by the Marlow reveal, and disappointed with the Weyland-Yutani scientist being as expected. I much more prefer when they don't play it straight. It'd been so much more interesting if he was just a really dedicated scientist hellbent on studying them for it's wide-range applications instead of " _Mmmmmoney..._ " . Also when I hear Marlow, can't help but to think of AvP3 from 2010, the Marine ship in that game was called the Marlow.
And for ya'll who haven't studied Mythology, in Greek Mythology when you died you found yourself in the underworld where you'd be made to drink from the River Lethe as all souls do to forget your Earthly life. Not malicius, just the cycle of all. So the question here is; Why is this planet called Lethe? Is it a hint towards Marlow or other characters?
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
I loved playing through Aliens Dark Descent I would like a sequel just to see a continuation of Haye's story but I guess we will see.
Alien-worshipping cultists is definitely an interesting and plausible take on human nature.
This reminds me of the genestealer cults from 40k
Big fan of the story and game. I think execution of a story like this could be better in the future! But it’s a scary twist, the sway of aliens on humans beyond just money and science.
I guess I'll have to give it a try
The only sad thing in all that is there are no plans for DLCs or a second game... 😢
This game is a little gem 💎!
We can totally control Xenomorph aggression this time, super swear.
Great game except for the final "just run run run run through the maze" mission
Those cultists with the creepy eyes look suspiciously similar to Benthic "Two Tubes," from Star Wars Rogue One.
Thanks 4 the content! Beat the game in January. It was good but the Gargantuan Alien plot point seemed a bit forced and unexplored/vague - as if they went over budget and had to wrap it up. Dropship pilot stole the show, though 😮
Bud has anyone ever told you that you narrate like a private investigator speaking their findings into their tape recorder? I actually like it quite a bit, don’t get me wrong, it’s just one of those things I notice lol
Yeah i played it and i loved the story, its still just amazing how much BS Weyland Yutani always manages to get by with but i guess thats plot armor for you :)
As for the cultist god i hated them more then the Xenomorph's, i am really hoping this game will get a sequel with Mako fully intrigated in the USCM.
Maybe on a Jungle planet this time ^^
Good Intel as always good sir, but odd question is that the correct pronunciation of Lethe? I've actually never heard another person say it ouloud I've only read it and assumed it was Lethy is it supposed to be Leethy?😅
Such a tense game, I couldn’t finish it, got a bit frustrated
Would personally love to see more of the cult, Mostly on the fact that WU constantly try to weaponize the xeno's but these cults have several times in teh comics and games done that instead, not by treating them like a pest to control but a higher power to listen to. And that scares me.
Compared to the Rage, the DE are nire in tune with the xenos as opposed to just weaponizing them.
I still get overwhelmed trying to play AVP 2000, so IDK that I'd do very well on a game of this franchise with better graphics per se. Certainly would like to try it eventually, but it may be a while before I could have a system good enough to run it.
The Xenomorph Cults were Always and interesting Part of Alien perhaps if he was given the Chance Walter Golic from Alien 3 would have joined a Cult like this (he Always admired The Dragon).
Ps if ya could tell your Favourite Xenomorph Cult what would be mine is Salvaje one From the Earth War but even the one From Alien Apocalypse weren’t bad.
