I enjoyed the addition of the old photos showing the past. When I was a wee tot there was a store at the foot of Cawood Hill run by Joe Galliger(?) at that time. I was born in Cawood but we moved away when I was almost 7. Having family in Dione we visited Harlan Co. often.
when I was young, there wewe no Basketball games on TV. BUT my brother and I listened to Cawook broadcast all University of Kentucky games. He was so good it was just like watching live.
Hi Ignited & Mrs Coyote. How are you folks today? Cawood Kentucky. Isn’t that where long time UK Wildcats radio announcer Cawood Ledford was from? Hope you folks are doing well. Keeping you folks and everyone in Eastern/Southeastern Kentucky in thoughts and prayers. Y’all have a great day. God bless
We're good Jonathan, hope you're well. Mr Ledford was named for his mother's family whom I'm told owend quite a bit of land in the area. He retired back to the area and spent his last days in the house we identified as his and is buried in a small cemetery behind it. His funeral was quite large, possibly the largest Harlan has seen.
My grandma use to live in the apartments above the country store, and my uncle was the pastor of the church up on the hill, he’s now the pastor of the new church. Thank you for posting this,it brings back alot of memories i only wish my dad could have seen it.
Awesome video Coyote's! Cawood is such a beautiful area! those old photos are awesome! I love seeing how things used to look! seems to me like were living in times of more but less nowadays! beautiful ride! thanks for bringing us along with ya'll! Hope ya'll still recognize me, I've slightly changed my channel name and thumbnail. 😊
"More but less" that's true. We've changed our thumbnail too, which tickled my wife to death she never liked the coyote blasting fire out of his butt, but I think I'll miss him LOL
The lady who does all of the Halloween and Christmas decorations out in the yard up on Cawood hill, she’s my first cousin, Katrina Osborne. She gets all decked out for both Halloween and Christmas every year. She would not care a bit for y’all to come in and check out all of her decorations and will sit and talk about anything Harlan and Cawood related. She is a very sweet and big hearted woman… she probably wouldn’t care a bit for y’all to interview her if y’all wanted to. I use to live in Cawood myself. From 1982 to 2010, I live in Casey County now but visit from time to time.
my moms from harlan, been quite many years since we been there i wanna get her back soon, shes 87 i think she would love to tour it again one more time
Thank you for taking us on a trip with you. It breaks my heart that old vine is on the trees and all over. I am from Garrett kentucky. I love to see any parts of kentucky. That is my home and I live in Indiana.
My papaw, John Williams worked in the Blue Diamond coal mines..at one time he called them Scotia Coal Mines. How I loved Kentucky. I lived in Kknoxville TN and I use to beg my Nannie and Papaw to let me live with them.
I would like to know more about the old coal miner I'm from south west Virginia Tennessee and Kentucky I've been been to Harlan Kentucky many times I was born in Norton Virginia. He reminds me of my pap paw Mullins I used to wait for him to get home cause he used to have a sweet cake for me I sure do miss them all especially him poor fella died back in the 80s from Black lung in Kingsport Tennessee thank you for the videos GOD BLESS YA'LL
Love your videos..my families from letcher county. I was born in whitesburg. Wish I could move back there and meet someone as beautiful as your wife. Caught a glimpse of her passing the Halloween house. You two sound like an incredible couple!!
And my mam maw made the best batter bread and biscuits and gravy I've well anyone had ever had the lady could have had a 5 no6 star restaurant in the country and the best chicken and dumplins you've ever had lord its been so long GOD BLESS YA'LL for this keep it up
It’s been about 14 years since I’ve been to the Cumberland Plateau and this view gives SE Ky a tropical look with vines growing everywhere. The land is so beautiful, compared to the boring flatlands of Illinois. I miss my kin folk from Lee Co and I’m looking forward to coming back for a visit. Hope the flood victims are doing fine.
Just talked to a guy at Walmart today who was buying a truckload of supplies for the flood victims he said who was still living in tents! That just ain't right. We're going to have to try to go over and do a follow-up video.
@@IgnitedCoyote I truly hope you or some will do a follow up on these folks. It would be a great service to them. I’m afraid the chill we’re having in Central Illinois will be moving south in a few weeks with lows in the upper 30’s. These folks can’t live in tents this winter. Tents aren’t made with canvass nowadays. There’s still time to build apartments or shelters get trailers and campers until the weather warms up next year. We’re due for a La Niña wet winter, with lots of snow in the Ohio Valley. I’m an advanced storm spotter., here in tornado alley along I-70. We won’t have the extra vegetation to soak up flood water during winter months until mid May. It would be a great service to all if you could do a monthly update on the progress made with the help of the victims because after all, the greatest heroes of the flood disaster were the victims.
Did you folks ever know of two sisters named Deltia and Belvia Hall? They lived on Black Mountain and never got married. I LOVED going to visit them with my grandparents.
Our Neighbor had a big Red Bull like that when we was growing up and we had across the field to get to my grandpa’s house and when that thing seen you open the gate it would be in the upper pastor it come running after us😅
About that "FLAT" ground and the plentiful churches, there were 8 kids in my family--All grew up in Harlan Co. All went North to work, raise families, military, etc, Many a time one of us would bring A coworker, girlfriend/boyfriend, military buddy or whatever HOME to Harlan to visit. Without fail, after seeing the mountains and roads from the 50's & 60's each and every one of them would be on their Knees ready for church and it didn't matter which one. Enjoy your drives very much.
My grandfather was well driller and Harlan and I was about nine years old we went to Caywood. The guy was a retired, in charge of the commissary he saved enough money for a water well he went into the basement and pulled out cash I told Papo not to say anything about money and how much do you remember?
Howdy folks the store that y’all are looking at the white store is the actual D & B MARKET, which was owned by Duper and Betty Jackson. D & B has been closed for years. The apartments were always there. However the new church which is pastored by Preacher Jerry Collins is where the old car wash used to be. The old holiness church is back behind the new church on the hill.
My family use to go to that first of the two church of god when u first came in and use to live up on the hill in a trailer and get our water out one of the caves.we use to have to be dropped off at the bottom of.the hill and walk home up the road
This is our email coyotesden2000@gmail.com Any information on interesting places historical facts or anything like that will be appreciated. Thank you.
Those aren't Chevettes...I had a '79 Chevette. Looks like the old Chevy Citation. It seems to me kudzu likes water....it grows like crazy near water. I think Kentucky has more churches with unusual, or at least unique, names than any other state. You have to wonder how they got their names.
You're right about the cars and the kudzu. I think the Appalachian Holiness churches which are an offshoot of the Pentecostal churches have the most unique names. Just got the ghost hunting Kentucky book, can't wait to start reading it. Thanks so much Scott! Your packages are always such a treat.
The James A Cawood high school is located next to the ARH hospital and is a elementary school now. If there was a high school at Cawood it was before my official, unofficial guide to Caywood's time.

The Old gentleman has black lung himself so he's very short winded that's why it was hard to understand him in some parts of the video.
This just tugs at my heart. My Grandmother helped build that Church of God and my Mom's cousin Dorothy lived across the road from that old store
Thanks for taking the time to share that with us Sharon, we appreciate it.

I once planted a weeping willow, but it didn't weep.? It grew up straight and tall and fell over in a storm.
Thanks for the ride.
