What is it like to attend a trade school? Modern society talks a lot about college, but not as much about what to expect from a hands-on program like CST offers. I posed my greatest questions to Ryan Lishner, the owner of the Colorado School of Trades, considering what a high school senior, or anyone else looking to get into gunsmithing may be wondering. Check it out in this video!

I wonder how many people watching are middle-age adults wishing they could go back and make different choices in their youth? Just me...dang.

My favorite piece to work on is a 1851 navy cap n ball revolver. The simplicity yet elegance. Thanks for bringing us this episode.

Went to Trinidad State Junior College for gunsmith training for 3 years. I had a great career and now I’m retired. These guys have a great program to. You will learn a lot going through this program but you really learn when you get into the workforce.

Love seeing more stuff with CST, miss it so much. Not just the learning about a huge passion of mine, but the bonds created with some amazing students and instructors as well.

Maybe they could teach how to fix a rifle like a mossberg patriot instead of just replacing every component to make a new one.

That was a train wreck. Gavin hasn’t acknowledged that. But if you look at the numbers he got a lot of views. That’s what these guys are all about. Him and backfire. I really feel I could have got that gun to shoot a 3 shot 1 moa group. I challenged Jim to send me the gun and he wouldn’t do it. I’m starting a CZcams channel shortly for reloading, tuners, setting up guns, making guns shoot factory ammo they don’t like. I think that would be useful info. Not hey I did a new build.

It would be interesting seeing how CST, Trinidad, Montgomery Community College, and Yavapai all stack up against each other in terms of learning opportunities/techniques and processes taught.

I'm glad you did a piece on CST. I went on a tour there ~ 45 years ago. Sounds like much the same place now as when I visited. Life took me in a different direction but I still think about that school. I'm retired now and old and broken down from the years and trades I was involved in but there's still a small spark of life left in me. I wonder if I should wander down the street one of these days and visit that school again... Another career for me?

I am in class at Trinidad college for two weeks of NRA gunsmithing classes in July. I’m excited to brush up on some skills.

Probably a program that teaches production. Laying out and tooling up an efficient manufacturing facility having traditional USA quality and safety.....😊

I would think that salary is very dependent on the person, location, are you running your own shops, working for someone else, etc.

One at a time. One firearm, one customer, one job. How many customers will come? How much do they want to pay? How many hours are in a day? Probably the meat isn't in being a master gunsmith.😊

The problem with trade schools, is if they are paying they are staying and get a diploma, doesnt mean they know anything, tell the truth, because your vids are nothing but sales ads these days

What a load of rubbish. If you can say anything smart best not to say anything because you come across as foolish and that’s being nice.
