    Two thoughts on this video:
    1.) You criticise the sound of the cars - I am not sure what you are talking about, but I own an F12 with an OEM exhaust and it is by far the loudest and most "present" sound in a group of modern supercars (I drive a lot in groups with friends owning McLarens, 488s, 430s, R8 V10s and also a Performante). In a tunnel run I even once "shut down" an Aventador SV. So I am not sure we are talking about the same car(s). Especially after you compared it to mid engined Ferraris and mentioned that both of the V12s are not as loud as "expected". In my experience, it is completely the opposite (especially when considering how the 488 sounds for example).
    2.) You say that the F12 feels "slow" compared to the 812. I once got the opportunity to drive an 812 back to back with my F12 and later on against each other on the track. The 812 is a stiffer car, has a faster gearbox, turns better, "feels" more agile and so on (question is - do you want all this in a GT?), but power-wise I could not feel ANY difference to the F12. In fact, I took a passenger (around 85kgs) with me while we were driving on track with a full fuel tank and the 812 could not out-accelerate us even up to very high speeds. It would have been quite strange, given that the 812 only has around 8% more power. I guess you mean that the F12 doesn't feel as fast around corners, but power-wise there is not really any difference.
    Thanks for the video, it was interesting to watch!

  • @taylorherzog
    @taylorherzog Před 2 lety +5

    I've owned both. Here is my best attempt at an unbiased rundown/comparison:
    Speed/Acceleration:
    812. Obviously it's objectively faster but it isn't just that. It feels noticeable faster at all speeds but especially over 100 mph it just keeps building insane power and the top end is far above 211 mph stock. Above 6000 RPM it hits another level and is mind bending. I had it for a few weeks before I felt like I could put the pedal to the floor -it just explodes when you do. Truly something else. The F12 is insanely fast but feels less "torquey" -more like the speed comes from the speed the engine is turning, less from the power it produces. The 812 also puts the power down better and revs higher. Both have more power than you'll ever need.
    Handling:
    812 by a mile. Four wheel steering, suspension, more advanced rear diff, and traction control are far more advanced and like the video says it's just an easier car to drive fast and slow. The way the four wheel steering reduces body roll is impressive. Any time you floor the F12 you have to really focus to keep it going in a strait line because the back end is so twitchy. Bumpy road mode is a little better than the F12 as well, but not by much. The 812 traction control is so good that I took it out on completely iced roads and it handled it almost as well as my 4 wheel drive Jeep wrangler -unreal.
    Interior/Fit & Finish/Tech:
    Again kind of obvious but the 812 is a pretty big leap forward in quality, ergonomics, interior quality, and form/function. This is the way it should be with a newer model and it is. Everything looks, feels, and works better PLUS - no sticky buttons in the 812.
    However, there is something about the F12 interior that feels very retro-tastic :). It was introduced only a decade ago but kinda gives you the feeling of like a 1980's BMW M5 if you ignore the infotainment screens. Something about it is very aesthetically pleasing.
    Sound:
    F12 takes this one. The pitch of the engine is a little higher and screams a little louder -both from inside and outside. If you like your V12s to sound like an F1 car then F12 is it. The 812 has a slightly lower pitch and just a little more growl to it. Still sounds like an F1 engine but very slightly muted. Also the engine noise while driving the 812 is less present and I think that's down to improved cabin noise insulation. If you crack the windows in the 812 the difference is night and day and the noise is still glorious. The F12 cold start is better as well -deafening in a parking garage.
    Looks/design:
    Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder but here's my two cents. Both have amazing road presence and turn a relatively equal number of heads (both shades of red, Rosso Corsa for the F12 and Rosso F1 2007 for the 812). From the side while on the road I think it's very close and pretty easy to mistake one for the other with a quick glance or to the untrained eye. I give the front view to the 812. It looks a little more sexy to my eye, even wicked. The rear view goes to the F12. The single circular tail lights with the body lines extending down to the rear diffuser is so unique and iconic -can't beat it. The 812 gets criticism for being too busy or less "classic" but so did the F12 when it first came out. Overall I prefer the looks of the 812 but only by a very small margin. I'm in my 40's and feel like it is a little more sleek, modern, yeah and like I said sexy/wicked. The F12 is freaking gorgeous though and as of now I would agree that it's a more classic design.
    Intangibles:
    Every car gives you a unique feeling when you drive it. The F12 a more raw, primitive, batsh*@t banshee of a car and yes it feels like letting your guard down while driving it might cost you your life -which is kind of bad ass. The 812 feels like a safer, well controlled ballistic missile.
    I traded my F12 in for an 812 and here's the best analogy I can come up with for how I felt about the experience:
    Pretend you own an F16. You've had it for years and love it. It was revolutionary for it's time and would still hold up very, very well in certain situations. It's a classic, a legend. Someone offers you an F22 Raptor which is basically superior in every way -it would be hard to turn down the F22 but you'd still miss the hell out of the F16. There you have it. Can't go wrong with either though.
    Much love 888MF, great video.

      There's another possible issue with the sound. The cars do need to be driven a bit hard for about 2000-3000 km for the exhaust to burn in and open up. In the real world, the 812 SF is louder and more raw sounding. Pretty much same exhaust, but one has higher compression and moves more air than the other.

    Great video, do you need a car that accelerates 0-100mph in 5.8 seconds ? No...... but it’s the effortless power on tap that makes it so appealing, with loads of other things of course. 👍🏻

      The 812 power is rather addictive, which is why I said it would make a better daily. Easier to get in and out of traffic. However the F12 is better value at £160k and probably a better long term keeper.

    Good review, but your comment on the lack of handling or traction due to rain in Miami could be due to the accumulation of oil on the road surface combined with a relative lack of precipitation. In other words, no rain for a long period in summer usually translates to a slippery surface when it does rain for a brief period of time. I live in Scotland.. and know all about rain.. and a little bit about the sun...

    I would like the 812 better if it the front end was just a bit narrower and shorter. You don't notice it too much when by itself but next to other cars you can tell the front end is very wide from the front view and it is a bit too long compared to the back end from the side view. I like the look they are going with with a longer front end and a shorter back part but I just wish the difference was a tad less pronounced.

    I am down to 2 vehicles. A 1996 fully restored Toyota 4Runner and a 2015 F-12. At 63 I sure wish I owned an F-12 when I was younger and not nearly afraid of death. My daughter scares me to high heavens because being young she drives like ole dad used to. If I ever sell the Ferrari she said she would disown me. Don’t worry I won’t sell either vehicle. I don’t dare let her drive the F-12 without me due to me always saying Slow down! I don’t want to get the call “Daddy I have small problem with the car” yeah “It’s in the ditch”

    @superfluous9726 Před 3 lety +1

    Here's the thing. The 812 is marginally faster than the f12 (you can't notice it on the road) but is massively more expensive than the f12, and i think the 812 is over styled.

      The 812 has much improved suspension set up and rear wheel steering from the TDF. So it is easier to drive and feels more composed. However, I’ve driven both for long periods of time and the F12 is a little more exciting as it is not as easy to drive. Both are great cars with a great V12 engine. Both need an aftermarket exhaust.

    I'm not a Ferrari fan and would prefer a Lamborghini by a galactic margin, but if I had to pick one of these two, the F12 is a finely sculpted work of art and easily one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever created. With the 812 Superfast, it seems like they were just trying too hard to reproduce the beauty that the F12 has by design. The F12's front end, especially, is as pretty as it is purposeful and the headlights look better.

    599 is the keeper. I bought a 2008 new, driving it for 30,000 miles, no a single thing wrong. Solid like a tank, no rattling at all. Styling is still striking, turns head everywhere I go. Then I bought the 812 for its rear-wheel-steering and max power. It’s a keeper too. I skipped F12. It is just a nice car, less potential for future historic value.
