#DrawingPeople #HowTo #AnatomyTracing
I couldn't draw on my phone, and I couldn't print so I just drew the guy on paper and filled in the muscles and it actually doesn't look distorted, I am proud of myself.
good job
I actually was going to do that (considering I have a drawing tablet, I just wanted to challenge myslef)
Good job!!! Glad you gave it an honest try :)
When the tracing was almost done my sister came into my room and I'm like: look, you want to be doctor right?
She has left the room and bring me her biology textbook. xD
I wish my sister was nice lol
aww thats nice of her :3
can I get her number?

I'm having a go at the exercise and I'm finding it really difficult. I guess its pointing out how little I know about anatomy.
Theonlytoner same I hope you know more about anatomy now it’s been five years
@@bbwong4411 lmao
Hey, did you finish this course?
Did u improve after 5 years?
You better after 7 years?
So I decided to just go back to the basics and decide to watch this series from Proko and seriously follow it.
Okay, looking at this video, this will definitely test my memorization skills a lot, lol.
Been one year since this comment, any progress?
@@POP-nm1ix haha...
Things happened and I didn't ended up practicing it as much. I did practice other things a bit though.
@@HayashiKaiji Been a year later, is there any progress?
@@Aagggyy nope, full time job got in the way
@@HayashiKaiji Dang I’m a college student hoping to learn before getting a full time job.
Lesson 1 done! I hope I keep this up. I’ve never been able to learn anatomy. The only thing holding me back from completing this course is myself. Future me, please never give up on your dream to understand anatomy!!!

Do you recommend looking up some muscle reference for the assignment you gave us? Or are we supposed to guess where the muscles are on the pictures, I'm not sure...
I know this is an old question but if anyone is confused this is just supposed to be a study. its not a drawing practice its an exercise in looking at a model and form general shapes. Do the exercises and move on with the lesson and you will learn as you go. later come back and redo these exercises and you WILL see improvement. Relax and let the process work
Mike Beaver but with or without reference?
@@bertytova8663 with the references, they are in the description
@@mikeybification Ah, that puts me at ease. Time to get to the assignment.
You never cease to amaze me...you are one of the finest teachers online imo. Keep up the great work!
thank you!! this approach is very helpful to explaining how the real forms correspond to the theoretical anatomy!
The course looks great. I grew up reading Flex magazine, so the anatomy comes easy to me. Bi's, Tri's, Traps, Lats and Delts are more visible on bodybuilders. Boris Vallejo is an amateur bodybuilder which makes his figures more realistic through his anatomical knowledge.
Yeah, people in really good shape are excellent reference. Sometimes I'll look at different fitness channels on CZcams and observe how certain muscles stretch and flex. Gotta love the internet.
also looking at dehydrated muscular people really shows the fibers of the muscle
This is such a simple concept yet I never thought to try. Thank you so much!
😂😂
For those that have access or can i found sculpting muscles with clay helps a ton. You create forms in layers and it makes for good learning
Eight years and still handy! Keep it going
If you did not study anatomy previously, how would you know the structure of the model? How would you separate anatomy from shadow?
Sucks but you just gotta do it, everyone has to start somewhere. Try looking up the actual anatomy online and trying to find those pieces on the body.
artbytandy lolzflare You could always learn from the Master - try googling for "leonardo da vinci anatomy drawings". Leonardo dissected and illustrated many cadavers while learning about the human body. Understanding what is under the skin is a huge help in understanding why people look the way they do, in various poses.
Yes you gotta first know what went wrong to then fix it. So you must know your level. Your first study has to be terrible so that you can see what to improve. And then youd use actual anatomical references like photos of bone and descriptions and their functions. At least thats what Id do
im gonna watch 5 videos from this playlist everyday and hopefully i learn
How you doin now?
THANKYOUUUU for this free helpful lesson!! Best art tutorial on utube!!!
I just found this channel, and the videos are... Just Perfect. I can't find the words to say it, but it's just what i needed. Thank You a lot man
This reminds me of what I do when I am trying to work out how to draw a cartoon character. I trace out the simplified construction over top and then place it next to the original picture before trying to draw, remember or modify it. For some reason it really helps my brain to understand the simplified construction underneath.
This exercise is kind of the opposite in a way though. You are tracing to try and identify the complexity of the form. However they are both about improving your understanding.
Amazing tuts, congrats!! keep up on doing this !
muito bom !!! irei aprender muito com suas dicas... voltarei a estudar, pois faz uns 15 anos que não desenho mais... obrigado.
I could watch tracing for hours, I'd love more videos about it
What if the model is super lean and has enough body fat to cover muscles? It's very difficult to find indications of origin points. Landmarks seem to be the only thing I can go off of...
I can't wait to learn about drawing hentai

Thanks Stan !!
very good advice for practicing :D
Dear Stan,
im a big fan and love your course.
i think the strength of your course is your way to teach and explain things which is very different than other expensive tutorial and courses where the instructor just records himself drawing.
What i like about your videos is that obviously you took time to think about what you would say instead of just talk while your recording.
Please don't turn your awesome course to this kind of tutorials.
I really hope this video is just an exception. I must say all the videos that you did recording yourself talking are not your best.(and i also bought your portraits dvd)
please don't let the quality suffer just posting more stuff. It wouldn't make you better that the 1000000 courses that you find in youtube.
Keep up your amazing work.
Proko
Спасибо!
would've been nice if u hid the layer with the photo so we could just see your line work
so helpful thanks!
Two questions.
1. This guy isn't exactly symmetrical. How common is that, and to what extent is that just due to the pose? If he twisted a bit one way or the other, would his back appear more symmetrical?
2. This guy's pretty muscular. I understand it makes it easier to see the separation of forms, but will you ever show regular people and/or women, and differences there?
Great video as always! Thanks!
Thomas Smith, one of the reasons why some muscular guys have asymmetrical muscles is simply because they work out their bodies incorrectly. One of the things that bodybuilding judges look for in bodybuilders is muscle symmetry-that is also an art form, a discipline that shows how the bodybuilder has given even attention to all muscles.
This is gold.
Thanks for the video Stan! Do you use a stylus to draw? How does that work?
Stan, what music do you tend to listen to while you work? Or do you prefer not to?
Огроменное спасибо!
Im on my phone so it's hard to for me to trace, so I decided to just follow him. I really messed up with the lung parts but I'm proud of the rest of it I'll give myself a 5 out of 10
Awesome! I hope to have a Chinese version!
Hi Proko (and other artists), I have a question for you. I am a middle school artist, practicing anatomy, and I was wondering if there was another solution to drawing anatomy. Because my brain is not fully mature yet, I get uncomfortable around drawing/learning certain aspects of the body. So if you could help me, that would be great! :)
Simplify the body into basic shapes it's alot easier and you can do this until you're ready I'm a sophomore in highschool and that helped me althourgh middle school
I recommend that shud learn the basic art fundamentals, then gesture and then anatomy. Here's a helpful video, that is really good and it helped me a lot
czcams.com/video/5w5xoLOSnyE/video.html
Hope u find this helpful!
U should try drawabox and get ur fundamentals
i know this comment is old af but why would u even study muscle anatomy in the first place if you're not mentally prepared to draw a half-covered model's back
Think of it not as sexual organs but rather something everything has! I’m also a middle school artist and it helps a bit
Serio queria conteúdo assim no Brazil, gratuito. Thanks

Awesome!
how the hell do you draw the lines so amazingly smooth?? :D
in traditional drawing its not a problem for me, but on a tablet even copying seems impossible
maybe he may use a cintiq
It just comes with practice. If you draw traditionally more than digitally it will feel more natural to draw on paper, but the opposite is true also.
I don't lose my time to practice on a support that will take years to draw in trhe same way you draw traditionally. Is the time I waste, when instead i can keep practicing traditionally and master drawing.
Alice Sacco If you prefer that approach than that's the approach for you. For me I practice both. I'll practice something new on paper and after I start to get used to it, I'll try it on my computer or vise versa.
On computer, I fell comfortable to ink (I can control and fell pressure better) and to colour (I always loved certain results that you can get only with a computer), but I can't get used to draw. Is counter intuitive to draw in horizontal position while seeing in vertical.
Even normal blind/contour drawing is done on the same plane (usually from life, object is seen from a vertical position, your hands too).
I practiced two years with tablet, with not results, or just temporary results (for example, I could draw for two days, but the third day I could not draw anymore, and things were this way for months before having one or two day of being able to use the tablet).
While practice on tablet, I could not learn properly the basis of the drawings, I didn't improved and i ended to hate my drawings at the point to giving up to create and to re-start to draw from the basis.
great video, thanks. Were you sick?
very nice
i really don't see how we can properly trace the muscles with any understanding without any prior knowledge of where they are and how they look under the skin. i downloaded the tracing pack (thank you so much for providing that, and for these tutorials) but all i can do is trace random ambiguous bumps without actually knowing what i'm doing. indeed, in some areas the muscles are pretty defined and you can see where they go under the skin but overall they're not that clear. i started working on the sample pic from the video and i separated the two big muscles in the middle beneath the neck into much more muscles because i was following the bumps and crescents until i remembered it was a single big one on each side of the spine. so when i do this exercise i could be tracing everything completely wrong. what am i learning from this?
This is not designed to be a learning exercise. The whole point here is application - to apply any knowledge you have of muscles and bones and to test your ability to visualise their forms without a labelled diagram. With that said, I wouldn't attempt a task like this unless you have extensive knowledge of human anatomy, otherwise (as you say) it would be pointless.
Caleb Rollins this is just meant to test your knowledge that you currently have about muscles. You’ll get better as you move on from lesson to lesson
I was wondering exactly the same thing. I guess I'll attempt the exercise though, and just anticipate some very inaccurate results. I'm sure I'll learn from it so in that sense it'll be a success
Ok so after i saw u do that
How do i learn everything u just said about the muscles and everything else is that a thing i should do on my own and how can i do it
im confused too
Can I print this in grayscale? Like Xerox it? It doesn't have to be in colour, right?
Can you do the same for forearms please?

@proko cant find the assignment pics :(

What i use a lot as a reference is the book of "strength training anatomy", from "Fréderic Delavier." I had this book since 2003 approximately when i was into strength training. Google it. If you are into drawing and you do strength training also, you can't go wrong with this book.
that's perfect, thank you!
do you use some kind of pencil mouse or special touch screen?? it really takes me to much time to do the traicings with a normal mouse on my laptop and I was wandering wath are you using for making such a nice lines on the screen...

anyone know how to make a transparent layer from drawing on using GIMP? can't figure it out at all

Did the assignments get moved somewhere else ??
can you make a video on your photshop brush preferences?
and if you draw out of the shoulder on your tablet aswell? because i find it pretty hard on tablet
cryingnihilist It doesn't matter much honestly what your preferences are. It comes down to you to choose what works best (there are also channels like Cubebrush that deal specifically with digital art and effects in PS) All he used in this video was a simple round brush in different colors.
If you want to draw out of your shoulder in digital it comes down to the size of your tablet. If the usable area is around A5, then it'll be more difficult to draw just from your shoulder.
thanks
It has also something to do with the angle of the tablet. If it’s lying flat on your desk, it is going to be harder to draw from your shoulder.
Yes exactly
This is a great exercise but I have a problem. Which Photoshop's tool I should use to repeat this exercise?
Thank you very much?
It seems like he's just using the brush tool.
please recommend me some material (PDF file or websites, etc) so I can understand anatomy more.
Hey does anyone else have problems getting the photos?I just cant download the (prb bc they’re .zip file)Anyone know another way to get them?
Okay, this should help me a LOT. One of the reasons I shy away from anatomy is because _holy shit so many muscles so many lines so much detail all I want is something simple AAAAAAAAAA_
Alright, actually watched the whole thing now, and...bit harder than I thought, but...I think I'm starting to understand a bit.
How you doin now?
@@Something-nh5ds Haven't been working much on it, ADHD and all QwQ;
@@FerreTrip Ahh I just started it now, tried in the past but gave up 😆
this question might sound stupid sorry, but how do you make your lines flow so well. i'm relatively new at drawing with a tablet.
You just need to get used to it. Use your tablet a lot :)
what software are you using to trace this?
The file for the homework wont open on my ipad :(
is it fine to draw without draw-tab? all of this tracing... does it fit to learn it by mouse waving?
maybe im a lil bit late but i think it's not the best way to do it. i mean since it's just learning the muscles and where they are i guess u could just use a computer mouse but if it's for action drawings, i would recommend using a graphic tablet or just paper. if u still didn't do this exercise I still recommend printing a pic and doing it on paper!
The file doesn’t open up
the assignment photo link is broken
Assignment photo doesn't exist anymore.
so cool..
how many times should i practice this sir?
Yeah idk where to start
can u do a tutorial of how to draw hands
Yes, I'll be covering that soon in the anatomy course.

Are the leg muscles less complicated than the upper body? I don't see much distinct muscles on the legs, so I'm not sure
Actually the legs have a huge amount of muscles, its just a few of them are prominent like the quads or calves but you'll find the upper legs has a crazy amount of muscles wrapping around each other.

I tried downloading the zip file from your site and was asked for authentication. The window kept popping up and the site turned blue with something around the lines of "Microsoft malware," something or other. (I was too panicked to read the jist of it.) Also the voice of the malware alert scared me, so I kept hitting the x to close the popup window and was finally able to close the tab too. I love your videos and they help me a lot. This playlist you have created is amazing and I'm grateful. But I'm now hesitant in downloading anything from your site/links.
Will still be watching and completeing the assignments you gave us, but I'll take to Google to do them instead. Everyone please be careful, and I hope this was nothing to worry about and that everyone will have better luck than myself.
Is this the same as the paid version on their website
No. The paid version has longer tutorials with more material, and he corrects the assignments he gives.

Great video, but I think the music is really distracting. It would be a lot nicer to listen to if it was just your voice, especially when I have to rewind and watch certain parts over again.
And if someone wants to listen to music while watching they can just do that themselves.
