He's the coolest. And was so loyal. He's one of those guys Megatron can't get angry at! Cos he did what he was told & did it for no benefit to himself. Always for Megatron & for Decepticons. He's almost like an Introvert person.
I wanted his toy back then so bad. Parents kept saying to me, nope. We can't afford it.
What I love is how much Soundwave cares for his cassette kids cause he can also feel their pain. In IDW’s MTMTE comic, Ravage gets torn in half by another decepticon and dies later in Megatron’s arms. This happened on another planet and Soundwave was on cybertron. At that moment, Soundwave started crying on the spot and fell to the ground cause he knew Ravage died.

Soundwave is quite often sad in the IDW comics. While I’m a huge fan of those comics, I think they went a bit too Shattered Glass level over the top in portraying the ‘cons as good guys who got kicked in the head by life (and I love the ‘cons). Soundwave and Shockwave are the most robotic of the lot and this is because they do not think like humans at all compared to nearly everyone else in the franchise (including the insane characters). Soundwave is way more alien than he looks, a gestalt made of networked minions who really cares only about information and his job as a secret agent-operative, whereas Shockwave’s goals are beyond human understanding in terms of scale. Emotional, no. Loyal, not really. But Megatron rules for a reason, he has people management skills whereas Soundwave and Shockwave are the weird, quiet nerds.

Serpentine Its more then that. Dont be fooled. I hate that whispering shit but if you play a vaccum cleaner soundbit for about 8 hours you can get ASMR that way too. Massage videos, Doctors offices (chiropractor), etc. Whispering is apart of asmr but I hate that shit.

I remember in one episode, Megatron once referred to Shockwave as the ideal soldier who is both humble and respectful but I would say that Soundwave embodies all of those qualities, he has never questioned Megatron nor has he ever tried to challenge his leadership. He is the only Decepticon who is completely loyal to the cause and is the only troop Megatron truly values. In my opinion, the Decepticons would be lost without him.
I mean, in the first season the only other decepticons are Shockwave, a loyal idiot, a backstabbing loudmouth, thundercracker, and the minicons. I'd mention Reflector but he only takes photos and acts as a buffer in combat
Soundwave lacks sidelateral thinking, which is why he's great at certain tasks but he is like a computer, linear tasks he's superior but can't really adapt well... they would be lost without him but he isn't a leader

Alternatively in the G1 comics both have made plays for command of the decepticon’s and overthrew Megatron on multiple occasions.

For all his robotic qualities, there's the occasional bit of emotion that shows through, even in G1. There's that line, the concern he has for the cassettes, and it's interesting how even with a mostly monotone voice, you can still hear it.

I read somewhere that if one of them were to die, Soundwave would feel their pain, almost like they’re extensions of himself, apparently there’s a thing where Ravage dies in Megatron’s arms off on some other planet and back on Cybertron, Soundwave breaks down crying because he knows Ravage is dead
The Decepticons aren’t exactly evil, in truth, the Autobots are a resistance and the Decepticons just really care about their home world, so it’s less them being evil and more them wanting to restore Cybertron to it’s former glory by any means necessary

Probably the only thing that kept him from taking command was his undying loyalty to Megatron/Galvatron.
Decade_1703 Soundwave is a strategist, not a fighter. The most dangerous position in the Decepticon hirachy is the leader, because to keep the leader strong, he always has to be prepared to be challenged by others. So to have work peace he needs someone to take off focus from him, and no other con is better at that than Megatron. So even if Megatron shouts out the orders and attacks Optimus, the true leader is hiding right infront of them, doing the ultimate deciept.

Soundwave: One of the greatest comic book characters of all time, imo. The Decepticons would be ass-clowns without him; sabotage, infiltration, combat, reconnaissance, espionage, scientist, communications, data center. He's the brain of the Decepticons...there's literally nothing the guy can't do.

I remember spending every moment Soundwave was onscreen thinking 'maybe he'll fire that gun on his shoulder this time.' I don't think I ever saw him do it.

+SweetLakeDolfie He fired it a couple of times in one episode. It was the episode where the Decepticons went to create the Stunticons on Cybertron. They were fighting these robot guardians. I think the episode arc is called "The Key to Vector Sigma", or something like that.

I used to rewatch 6:24 to 6:32 purely because of how Soundwave's voice lines from each respective clip sound harmonious together. It's actually really nice, and satisfying. But the same could be said for his voice in it's entirity.

you should listen to transformers animated perceptor.
What some people dont realize is what makes him an oddly, scary character is you can never detect what emotion he has. Is it excitement? Anger? Thirst? And even more odd, his battle tapes shows more emotion than the master. And he follows every command, like some firewall program, and you can't see his face. Soundwave is easily one of my top fav characters in this franchise.

I actually kinda died there.
It would seem that during the first season episodes, Soundwave's words are based primarily on C-chords. In the second season we start hearing a wider variety of chords and notes (I'm a musician, I pick this stuff up). And the harder, more commanding his words get, the more intense his musical notes become.

The Bumblebee movie just made me cry tears for joy. For the first time a knight came and answered our prayers of the original Transformers to come back.
And they nailed Soundwave beautifully.
It’s some kind of vocal harmonic effect. If you can whistle and hum at the same time, you’ll hear something similar. The pitches of his voice is played with fluctuations that REALLY match his emphasis and what he’s saying.

Soundwave was TOO robotic, excuse the pun, he isn't a leader he's a follower, not saying that's wrong, but when you have a 2nd in command you don't want a "YES" man.
Just like his cassettes are purely loyal to him, none of them would ever question soundwave and that's not exactly a good thing in warfare, you as a leader need to welcome conflicting ideas and opinions from your underlings, as a leader you want all angles to think about.

I forgot how important he was for Megatron he literally was his Intel, had a versatile set of minions, powerful, and loyal. I always liked him as a kid, as I liked all the Lieutenants with Starscream being my favorite transformer. For some reason I didn’t realize how important he was at the time. Someone made a video about it but I still to this day don’t understand why he saved Megatron on earth in the movie but stood by as he was thrown out, literally standing at the door to Astrotrain.
Edit: Upon rewatchinging the whole video, maybe he is my new favorite 38 years later for referring to Witwicky being in a wheel chair as “the mobilized human” hahahah. I’m going to use that from now on

Whoever decided to use the vocoder for his voice is a freakin genius. I may be wrong but it’s great that he’s always in a minor key and I think when he gives bad news or is in distress the harmonic intervals become more dissonant. The overlay with the original voice is genius too. It provides a great sub bass and thickness to the sound.
