- Apex Legend's crosshair is notoriously awful, but what can we do about it? What iron sights are pay to win, and what can we do to help mitigate this? What if you weren't playing during seasons where these skins such as Heat Sink or Revolutionary were available? Using an external crosshair program such as ReShade, we can set up a much more accurate and usable crosshair in Apex for us to use.

wrthcrw just a disclamer i always thought that reshade injects into your game. Which might be flagged by anticheat. Reshade was used on apex before to remove visual clutter, etc. And afaik people got banned for it.

Reticle drift has become a creeping issue in FPS games lately. And with the rise of rotational aim assist, it makes it much more frustrating and inconsistent if you are mnk. This is a fantastic video.

@@MikeGrau0hrI play on no deadzone and my drift goes crazy, doesn't matter while playing though. Stick drift has zero impact on gameplay
@@omegaPhix he was talking about reticle drift i think, which is worse for mnk than controller who has aim assist to help with microadjustments .
and i was trying to make a joke. because lately 3/4 who kill me seem to have stick drift (means access to aa) when i watch their pov.

And the worst part, all the devs play with rollers and these problems aren't nearly as much problematic on rollers
Maybe for most roller players, but ive constantly complained about this exact issue. I was literally just talking to my buddy 3 days saying it felt as if they increased reticle displacement while jumping in slide outs while ads. Or it feels like minimal screen shake is bugged and doesn’t work

@@tommys234the fact that most devs play roller makes it so much more confusing on why they’ve let aim assist be a big issue for this long and took away any possibility of high level movement on controller while not just adding a one-time lurch to your l-stick after jumping. they play the most problematic input in their game, hear the issues, and still just made roller players look like even MORE of aim assist reliant nerds
and just to add to this for my point, if u still want to have all the BS setups on steam config, you can. it just takes a lot more effort to setup, but still can code in a figure 8 b-hop to a button. like i swear the devs just gave up on the whole controller situation
but at the same time, the config nerf is only hurting people like me who made a simple tap strafe that chorded my LB to make my L-stick WASD so i could get the tasty lil lurch that only KnM players get that low key changes the whole game if used often as a tool. that’s what truly sets players apart and it’s very upsetting that i’m locked to basic wall jumps now on roller
if the bullets also followed the crosshair drift, it would be fine, but it seems thats not the case
I've been telling people for years that the Apex crosshair movement is cancer. On some iron sights(Car smg of the top of my head), when you turn your screen ADS'd the reticle sways in the opposite direction than you're turning your screen. Here's the kicker... bullets still go to the center of your screen.

Thought id add a useful tip, Hudsight has a 'Hold' mode which enables/disables the crosshair when you hold a key. If you enable hold mode and set the bind to RMB you can set the crosshair to appear or disappear when you hold RMB.
good to know! but i also find that hipfiring can still be unreliable as well, but it's a nice option for people that only want the ads sight
@@wrthcrw iv used it a lot for games that have decent ads sights but their hipfire crosshair moves around for some fucking reason (mw2 and battlebit are 2 examples) so im really only using it as a centering tool when im not in ads and have it set to disappear when i right click
amazing guide, I was using my monitors little red dot option because the crosshair always felt off. being able to customize it now is so much better

W tutorial, this is much needed for apex. Thanks to you I've been using this method for crosshair for nearly a month and it really helps to shoot accurately.
I tried serveral game, don't know its a placebo effect or actually working, but aiming feel more consistent , especially hip fire. It surprised me only a little change made aiming feel way better

yeah im not really someone who believes in third party tools but with how unreliable and bad the crosshair is, i think it's something that is more fair

Every FPS game should have a helper dot that is sacred and not affected by in-game happenings. This trend of "cinematic" HUD is absolute cancer when there's no bedrock to focus your view on.
Hey, since we're already making our own overlay, it should be possible to make crosshairs to guide each pellet for the different shotguns. Just have to adjust it for your personal FOV.
You can also bind the in game reticle color in your autoexec (e.g. bind_US_standard "9" "insert command") and do the same for your regular crosshair color so you can toggle between them
I recently turned on my monitor cross hair and found out the default apex one jumps around a lot and now this video has been recommended to me lol
holy, this makes running iron sight sentinel so much better than it already is. and im always dropping the digi off prowler/wingman for my bang now, i basically have a free hcog anyways

Hudsight is much arguably a much better tool for the job
Some monitors have crosshair built in as a gaming setting such as ROG XG43UQ.
There is a built in crosshair overlay preset you can select or manually install for reshade. You can find it on my yt video with reshade on battlefield, makes installing / customizing the crosshair 100x easier. All the options are built into reshade so you dont have to make a crosshair and input it.
I've also realized why I don't like the Mastiff. Whenever you shoot while ADSing the reticle just disappears. But the Sentinel has a ghost reticle (lack of better term) that sticks around allowing you to lead your shots.

One thing ive also noticed about the crosshair as a Wattson main is that when you go into fencing mode, you'll see your dot crosshair and a sideways "]". You are lead to believe that your fence will be placed on the dot of your crosshair, but its actually placed on the sideways "]" instead, which is why I found it difficult to place quick fences at first because I would look too far up and my fence would fall short of the intended distance. I dont think this is as big of an issue on m&k because shes alot more intuitive to use on that input device, but realizing this made it alot easier to use Wattson effectively on controller

Seriously, one of my favorite things about Battlebit, and countless other fps games, is the ability to customize crosshairs. I'm colorblind asf and I lose my hip fire reticle constantly because of it's color and outline thickness. Makes hip fire extremely difficult for me.

idk if the reticle is the main problem with apex. the more important problem that is the server runs on 20 ticks per second. literally the same that minecraft does. a competitive shooter like this, especially in a movement game, needs to be 60 minimum
exactly what i was thinking..valorant runs on 128 and thats insanely higher than apex..but considering that valorant and cs have lower TTK where the first person that shoots, kills, they need a high tick rate but yeah, atleast 50 to 60 would be decent for apex

As a CS player before I can say that it works realy well for me!
Been doing a more rudimentary fix for this for a while. Theres laser sights you can buy to shine on your TV/monitor. I specifically use the Head Shot Red Dot
Well if that's the rudimentary fix we would call mine the primitive fix - crosshairs made of two tiny pieces of tape on the screen... You don't wanna know how long it takes to cut and line them up perfectly

I've been using a very primitive fix compared to this one, but it's all I've been able to come up with on console - crosshairs made of two tiny pieces of tape on the screen... You don't wanna know how long it takes to cut and line them up perfectly
please do not tape anything to your screen it will damage it, just go buy a monitor with a crosshair function
( I used the same version that is on the video "9.5.2" the old one not the new one "6.1.1" ) It was driving me nuts that it didn't worked, but I could find a solution to the problem. After creating a new cfg and putting the command inside it, and on top of that copying the command into my list of commands in the EA app, and putting it in only read... it worked !! I hope this information helps my mates that play on Origin / EA app !! And this is not cheating for those who think that getting a cleaner crosshair will give you hands to be a pro like iiTzTimmy or ImperialHal !!

back when we moved from quake to Doom to goldeneye, we put a little dot on our screens, either with a marker or bit of sticky tack (marker is better, but sticky tack is for when you don’t want to ruin the family tv

quick question, by changing the default crosshair to invisible, does the 2x4x scope or other long range scopes' distance display function also become invisible? (function that shows distance of aiming position, and the vertical grid bars 2, 4, ...for aiming long distances)
Yea I’m 90% sure it does remove the extra hud elements on the reticle (ie the stuff you asked about) not forsure about sniper sights tho
no the lines just become black on all scopes + havoc, triple take and flatline iron sights, it only removes extra lines on all other iron sights and 1-2x (both digis and p2020 are default)
Good thing my monitor had built in crosshair placement. Never used it but i may consider it now for Apex honestly. I assume i would be completely safe if it is literals built in into the screen without any external programs or anything?

Even though this content provides great information on crosshair drift I don’t think it’s as questionable in terms of negatively impacting your personal performance for one simple reason. If you take hipfire weapon spread out of the equation the bullets actually go to where the crosshair drift goes. This isn’t the case in some games like The Finals where crosshair drift is a huge issue because the bullets always come out of the center of the screen not the barrel of the weapon. The clean sight reticle however is a big game changer.

yeah but not everyone has it, i used reshade as a simple cost-free solution that anyone can use regardless of peripherals
it didn't work for me, it gave me an error that it couldn't find the layer.png in the textures folder but it's literally there and I also deleted the old layer file just like in the video...

how long have you been using this and this been a thing in the game? dont wanna get banned for this, although cfgs are aparently fine. least i can do is give myself a honest cross hair that doesnt lie to me.

Playing this game 100% raw and legit without any cheats and especially on M&K has to be one of the most gigachad things you can do in life. Thank you for posting about this, because this one here, plus all the visual clutter issues, plus the unfair advantage of aim assist punish you for using M&K. I think it is only fair for M&K users to use. Still not enough to even the playing ground but it should help. I'll definitely give it a try.
when everybody is similarly disadvantaged by things like terrible iron sights and gun shakiness it feels like cheating to remove those things and be able to just use a better 1x optic that can also zoom without having to look for a red dot because you downloaded a program
We could do this almost 2 years ago, I could not believe how much it improved visibility when shooting, especially on MNK
But the developers patched it within weeks as they fixed the min/max rgb values you could specify
when was it discovered we could do this again? because damn I feel like i've missed out being able to do this and they are gonna patch it again
I think they patched the invisible reticle, mine becomes purple instead and the 1x-2x doesn't appear to be invisible anymore

Tbh they should just ban anything that's launched with apex and it should be played how it's created. Anything used to give a person an edge is a cheat because the smallest things in apex is life or death.
why is it that when i open apex with this , i randomly get my screen to be blurred out ? ive had it go red, gray and yellow on me until i used the home key to turn off layer.fx, already uninstalled and reinstalled reshade but it still happens at random

When this game came out , things were so different then, now I don't really see what effect add on pieces to weapons actually do now? If you watch other streamers, they don't use them and seemingly get all the benefits of the add ons. On a further note, I'm damn tired of being out dueled wit ha sniper rifle at range with a spitfire or alternator. There can't be an anti cheat in this game.

I don't know if its just me, but my game started dropping a lot of fps after i installed Reshade, it was not like that in the past.
Followed it and still got the same in game cfosshair. The green one isn't visible even with the layer ticked in reshade

Weirdly enough, my monitor's crosshair isn't exactly align with game (it's slightly place on the left) . Idk if anybody else has that realization with theirs.

Don't forget about the 20 tic rate servers. Sure I could be around a corner but on the enemies screen I'm not. Is such bs
