I had the pleasure of taking care of her in the 1980's . I was a salesgirl at Bloomingdale's in NYC. She was a very nice ,polite and not in the least bit demanding or pretentious . She was shopping like any ordinary shopper. She was shopping for bathing suits at the time. As you would imagine, it was an inspiring experience for me , as a young girl. Despite having taken care of an elite clientele,she was the most memorable.

Wonderful story
As a little girl in Boston I wrote to her expressing my condolences at the death of JFK. She sent me a note and enclosed a picture which I treasure to this day. She epitomizes class. There will never be another like her.

She received so many letters from all over the world after the assasination of JFK and she said in her video that she would read all the letters and answer them.
She always spent time with her kids. She knew how to be a mom. I so respect that.
I knew a nun who taught at the school her children attended. She said that Jackie was a normal, down to earth person. She often rode with the kids to school. She attended events and had simple little birthday parties for Caroline and John at the school. She raised the kids to be respectful, obedient and thoughtful.

I had a velvet collared dark blue winter coat my mother called my “Jackie Kennedy coat”. I wore it with Mary Jane’s and a dress with white tights. It was the early 60’s. Perhaps, since I was four, she meant it was a Caroline coat.

When she worked for Bantam, Doubleday, Dell they were located in the lower floors at 1540 Broadway, I got into an elevator with her. I said 'hello, are you having a good day?' She replied with that million dollar smile 'Why yes I am and you?' I replied 'I'm on my way to the cafeteria for lunch', she smiled again and said 'Yes so am I'...As the elevator reached the floor, she turned to me and smiled...I have admired her since that horrific day they murdered her husband...what a strong woman indeed.

I have read two biographies of Jackie, and they both portrayed her as an extraordinary woman. It wasn’t her wealth or her education that made her extraordinary; it was her elegance and kindness.
She was born on July 28, 1929 and died on May 19, 1994. It is a shock to see that she died so young by today's standards, after having lived such a noteworthy life as a truly devoted mother, presidential wife, art historian, book editor, cultural icon, ... and the list of her achievements goes on! What intelligence God gifted her with, and what a gift she has been to the world! Deo gratias!
It must have been such a shock to be in the car with JFK when he was murdered. You never can get over such a terrible shock. It is a wonder she lived as long as she did. I am a great admirer of Ms. Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy ♥♥♥

I killed myself laughing at one of the photos where Jackie is crossing the street in New York City and everybody in the photo were all gocking at her as she was crossing. I would have been one of those people as well if I were there and saw her crossing the street. Never had the opportunity.

After what Our most intelligent, Charming, well dressed first lady, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, went through. The Lord should of given her a longer life. I admired everything about her, even her beautifully furnished apartment, which was typically Jackie. RIP🌹

She was a huge help in saving Grand Central Station. I though shed personally chain herself to the building , before shed see it demolished. Historic preservation was her thing , and her knowledge base was unmatched.

I recently watched the documentary of JFK's Jr.'s secret wedding to Carolyn Bissett at the little church w/their closest loved ones. It was so touching.
I cannot say how sorry I am that he and his wife & their sister lost their lives at such a young age. It's heartbreaking. JFK Jr. was a very sweet, kind and humble man. He was never showy and he only wanted to blaze his own trail in life. I will always hold a special place in my heart for JFK Jr.💓

It's wonderful to have a glimpse of Mrs. Kennedy-Onassis's personal home and living space. She is the First Lady I can remember from my childhood and my mother took me to meet President Kennedy when I was in the first grade. It is easy to see why she loved this penthouse and remained there for so long. Thank you for your channel and your research.

I love the fact that Ms. Kennedy never gave interviews. I did not appreciate Diana for the fact that she went on TV to talk about the royal family, that was very wrong. Diana did not have Jacqueline's class for sure, nobody does.

A pleasure to see the home of our former First Lady. Even if this was the home of someone unknown to me I would still admire the beauty of the apartment. In a way I'm reminded of the home where I did most of my growing up: a family home that was occupied by my family over a span of four generations. Furniture was rarely moved in the house. If a piece of furniture was in a particular place it would probably be there for decades. Furniture wasn't replaced, just reupholstered.
I was never her biggest fan, but the way she arranged JFK's funeral and how she conducted herself through that whole horrible ordeal, all while being watched by the entire world, is commendable beyond words. For that alone she should be respected and remembered.
Yes, a class act. There was a lady with manners, dignity, style and character. By all accounts she was a decent human being. They just don't make them like this anymore. And the only other thing I say is good thing she was already dead when JFK Jr died in the plane crash. I can not fathom the painful horror she would have had to endure had she still been alive. A parents' worst nightmare - to bury her/his own child.
Jackie was always the epitome of refinement, grace and opulence.

She was quite good a manipulating others image of her and she was a very money-hungry person. The disdain with which she treated the Onassis family and shamelessly demanded her share of the Onassis wealth without showing any grief or affection on the death of Onassis really upset her step-daughter. To her Onassis was just a ticket to a super-rich world and she and her children from Kennedy treated Onassis with contempt. She is not really worth glorifying in any way.

She soon found out after marrying Onasty that he married her only for business contacts and that he deeply loved Maria Callas with whom he reunited two weeks after his marriage to Jackie and trysted with monthly until his death. He used to speak derogatorily about Jackie. He was a cheater, and could be a cruel man according to his ex wife Athina Livanos Niarchos (who ended up committing suicide). Christina and her brother Alexander rejected Jackie outright from day one - she was an East Coast American snob - an alien interloper. The whole scene was humiliating for Jackie. who stayed in the situation for the sake of her children's safety.
So yes Jackie spent money on decorating and antiques and had to get money from filthy rich Onassis by buying and returning things...
At the time of his death she was aware that he considered Callas his wife and the intense vilification of her by Christina made things untenable. Not being at the bedside of a man who planned to divorce her and whose controlling daughter was present 24/7 is understandable.
But in the end all the blah, blah, blah we read is only a part of the truth.

Clearly, her home was an expression of her personality, tastes, and interests, with books and art at the forefront. I like that it is eclectic, warm, quite luxurious without being opulent or daunting, and this is the space, afterall, where she raised her children. Thank you!

I have always admired her impeccable taste, she has been a true inspiration! I lived in D.C. when the Kennedy’s were at the White House😊 and l remember pushing a three yr. old Caroline on the swing in Dumbarton Oaks, as a young teen.
She had so much elegance in a simple manner. May her spirit alway guide her beautiful daughter and grandchildren and her soul can R.I.P.
I had the good luck to see her twice in person. At the Ballet and a restaurant. Was quite thrilling as I idolized her as a young girl. Copied one of her gowns for my Jr.H.S. graduation. Shortened of course.
Sweet story. I, too idolized her and kept a scrapbook of photos out of the newspaper. She was born the same year as my mother and my mother was widowed at 39. She, too was a beautiful woman. I continued to follow her life’s events and understood completely how Her children felt when they lost their devoted mother. They were both too young and had gone through a lot losing both parents.

In October, 1966, I was a 20 year old, working for the Manhattan school clothier, A.J.Taylor & Co. when Jackie
Kennedy unexpectedly phoned from her apt., to order a school hat for daughter Caroline! As I had personally
seen both John & Jackie, on Oct.12th, 1962, (Columbus Day Parade) in the very same Lincoln Cont. that JFK
would die in,13 mos. later, I was still in awe of talking directly to this icon! Because of this, another person
completed the order & to this day, I still regret that decision! p.s. I had no idea of the 'splendor' of her apt. until now!

I too had the pleasure of running into her on several occasions:
In the years just after her move to NYC, she enrolled John-John at St Davids School at 12 East 89th Street. I was a student there as well. When picking him up she was always admired by students, handling herself with warmth and discretion. We even saw her in Central Park walking with RFK and they both smiled at our sports team.
A few years later, my Mom and her frequented the same hair stylist: Kenneth's, also in NYC. One day I was waiting for my Mom to finish and placed the lunch I had toted on the seat next to me. Jackie swooped by and lovingly showed her new coat to the stylists she obviously had befriended and, while engaged in conversation with them, sat down on my sandwich (thankfully wrapped in a protective bag)!
I'll always remember her apologetic sense of humor, and how kind and unassuming she was towards me.
Nobody had anything negative to say about her at Kenneth's. She was, and remains to this day, a true legend.
This is such a wonderful video feature. Comprhensive and coherent in stating the personal preference and style that is full of substance of a very fascinating woman….whose choices in her living space is rooted in history and literature. Not a superficial showpiece.

Jackie's NYC apartment looks very much like the homes of most old money aristocrats. It is charming, cluttered, cozy, and a hodgepodge of priceless art and artifacts. It is not perfect because it's not planned - it evolved through the years by adding what you love. By contrast, her sister Lee's Paris apartments and NYC apartments are simply stunning. They are exquisite and are perfection. While Lee's is much more beautiful, Jackie's is more comfortable and less pretentious.

On the floor plan at 3:33mark, I expect Jackie's bedroom is front one facing Fifth Ave [lower right].
Years ago, reading one (of many) Vanity Fair feature stories on Mrs Onassis, a makeup artist spoke of arriving at the apt to get her ready for a formal event. He recounted her seated at the dressing table in front of a window in her small bathroom with the sun streaming in from the west, which made the room very warm as he went about carefully doing her makeup. He would do so for several more events, saying she always wore "a wrapper" [robe] in a similar color to the outfit she was to wear that evening so he could make sure the makeup complemented her ensemble.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was one of the lovliest first ladies and the lovliest ladies of all time. Her resilience, bravery, elegance and long-suffering nature really made her stand out positively from Armerican women. Aside from Virgin Mary, I would say she was a woman amongst women.
This home was the one that started my passion for interior design. Will always be one of my favorites :)

Her son John left alot to be desired.

all over the world. Big or small, they have meaning in all classes. Just as the Christmas dinner get together showed. It looked like
some of my families celebrating a holiday. Maybe not the fine China or the cook preparing the food, but close.
Mrs Kennedy received thousands of letters of condolence in the wake of the assassination. Every single one received a reply, a simple printed word of thanks on a engraved Crane’s card with an elegant black border. The one received by my grandmother in reply to her letter was was framed and remained a prized possession until she died. She left it to my sister, her namesake.
Understatement is the hallmark of Mrs Kennedy's exquisite taste.

I CAN'T GET OVER THAT THE APARTMENT HAS ALL OF THOSE BEDROOMS!!!! Jackie had to of purchased Two and had them remove walls!!!! My FAVORITE ROOM IS THE CREAM ONE!!!! I think it's the STUDY!!!!
Those old buildings on Fifth Avenue in NYC were built for the superrich of the 1920's. I one time went to a party in a similar building nearby and still remember the elevator. It had a bench seat to sit on and was operated by a white-gloved staff member! Very opulent, but from the outside these buildings appeared ordinary.

Just how the gilded age wealthy liked it. Not flashy from the outside but very opulent and glamorous on the inside. Also those buildings on fifth ave. It was 18 stories with 27 apts. so they were that big plus it was the penthouse. 4 to five bedrooms with maids quarters were not unheard of. I imagine it took up most of the 18th floor.
No, just one apartment. That size is not unusual at all in that kind of price range, especially in buildings built in the 20s for the ultrawealthy, as this one was.
@@brianmichaels5112they were more homes than apartments. Look at he Dakota building floor plans from the 20’s. Its very interesting and online.
It’s interesting that they rarely show her real home, house, on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s was purchased by The Martha's Vineyard Land Bank Commission and the Sheriff's Meadow Foundation. Jackie used the house for family gatherings. Her house made her apartment look fairly modest, even though her apartment was considered one of the best of prime real estate in New York.

Always a fan of hers from 1960..when I first saw her- I started cutting every article about her and (soon to be) president ❤️❤️from newspapers..put into scrapbook .Sad when she died . ..Also when JFK, JR. Died❤️❤️(remember when he was born)

A true lady through and through, even in the worst of times. Yes, she was human and flawed, but her spirit was way up there in style, manners, intelligence, grace, and morals. She was and is my role model. She is deeply missed by the entire world.

They both had good taste. And were a stilish and cultivated couple. Am and was a big Kennedys fan. Read Towards the New Frontier when being thirteen, and then my father read it too. We were all caught up with the Kennedy's charm. They were clever and elegant people with whom to share values and ideals, easily. Bobby is still my political icon. Or one of them. And don't have many. Felt as if drowning when he was killed. Wish they were many of his size in politics. He made us dream with a better world for everybody. We miss you, Bobby. 💙🌊👍🏻🙏
Met in in the oddest way as a kid in Atlanta, where my dad was a minister and we went to the march, I got lost and was one of the very few 'white' people there - though all I saw were knees and other kids my height until I was swooped up by this amazing man, put up on his shoulders so my parents could see me. Later my dad said Rosie Greer was scolding him for that, saying he was a target. I was five or six, and did not know him through fame, etc. But I deeply loved him on the spot and it crushed me when he was murdered, this wonderful adult who was keeping a child entertained at one of the darkest moments in our history.

Such an intelligent woman. A woman of her time. A wife and mother first. Her beauty was arresting. Her charm was unparalleled. A wonderful, brave, and historic first lady. From serving in a diplomatic function on world trips, to insuring the tastefully decorated White House, she was a visionary. I was saddened at her passing. The world lost an intelligent, graceful, and cultural/ historic former First Lady. Her home evoked everything about her.

I love when I go jogging in central park , I always pass by her apt as Im jogging on the east side of the park, I always think of her as I look up to it

I am lucky enough to own a set of "men on horseback" prints that traveled with Mrs. Onassis when she moved from the White House. Tish Baldridge's initials are still visible, written in pencil on the back of the frames. I will always treasure them.
