    Over 45 years ago I was at a party with drinking buddies. One of them, an 18 year old and very inactive member of the LDS church got into a debate with another guy about the Book of Mormon. He told his friend, with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in another, telling him that although he was not exactly the best example of a Mormon, he would know the B of M to be true, if he really prayed earnestly about it, while reading.
    I was stunned! He had no agenda. That get together that night haunted me , until months later and did just that, once I got the book from another Mormon friend. I was overcome with the the Holy Spirit that testified of the truth of it. I am now a still faithful 67 year old.

      Turns out this process fails. I read the book prayerfully. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. But the spirit testified to me otherwise. Great Christian fiction though and I mean that. I really enjoyed it.

      @@orangemanbad Turns out one needs to humble oneself, in order to get a spiritual confirmation, while reading it. If I pick up a book with the underlying attitude that it’s not going to confirm anything, then it won’t. Additionally, I have had several other spiritual experiences, which further confirms the truth of all of the LDS Church, in its entirety. Because, it’s either all true, or simply all hogwash. There’s no middle ground.

      @orangemanbad Před 3 měsíci

      @@DerGlaetze I agree. I read Book of Mormon prayerfully. I honestly thought LDS was true. Not sure why. But then the spirit guided me away from it.

    This is a wonderful testimony of the Bible and Book of Mormon from someone who has studied and taught them both for 40 years. I loved the clarification of the three vital levels/stages of the Book of Mormon -
    (1) the story/narrative that provides the context for the doctrine,
    (2) the doctrine/teachings, and
    (3) the personal encounter - internalizing and incorporating the doctrine in our lives ("we sought and found Christ and you can too!")
    I believe and love the Bible and Book of Mormon!

    I understand that some things about the church sound crazy. Angels, gold plates, a boy talking with God etc., but if you read the B of M and you listen to our current prophet and apostles speak and you think logically about everything, you will have to actively TRY and not believe. It's just so clear. I don't understand how people don't see it. But most people aren't searching for truth, only things that will validate their feelings and position.

      If you look at most things in the Bible, dying and rising again, talking donkeys, angels appearing, demons being cast out, lepers healed by bathing 7 times in the river, walls falling dwn by walking around them 7 times, the Red Sea dividing and thousands of ppl walking to the other side, feeding thousands w only a few loaves of bread … it all sounds pretty crazy to me. Anything showing forth the power of God looks crazy to the natural man. God is a God of miracles and His ways are not our ways. Who are we to tell Him how to do His work or accomplish His purposes? We can all better learn to see and hear w our spiritual ears and eyes and stop setting limitations on God, His power and purposes in our lives and the lives of others.

    Hi President Millet
    I joined the church when you taught institute and you were in the Stake Presidency in Tallahassee. My dear mother had the will and wisdom to drive me to Tallahassee from Perry and we attended your institute classes. How did you feel when the announcement for a temple in Tallahassee came? I cried for about an hour and still well up over this miracle. I wish I knew scriptures better. I've always given my privilege of attending your institute classes as the reason why I have held on to the iron rod as much as I have. With that sure foundation I was a bit lazy in my scripture study. Now I am confused about what you said in this video about the Godhead. Your testimony will stay with me forever. I am going to get to work and figure this out. Why did you say this here, now, on a video headed for CZcams when we just studied the First Vision in Come, Follow Me and no one mentioned this? I have a lot to study and pray about. I hope all is well with you and your family. Thank you for sharing your testimony.

    • @carolynquffa6
      @carolynquffa6 Před 3 lety +1

      I am confused at about time 8:15 by Robert Milet's statement, "Christ is God." I have studied Mosiah chapter 15. I realize Christ and God are unified in purpose. I thought that was what is so instructive about the First Vision, that for once and for all someone could tell us- Jesus Christ and His Father are two separate beings.

    • @carolynquffa6
      @carolynquffa6 Před 3 lety +1

      I listened again at time 8:17 and I hear the words Brother Millet is using to explain Christ is God. I agree with him but, I think many people need Joseph Smith's First Vision experience added here to expel any confusion and all the other places in the New Testament and 3 Nephi 11:7 where there are two personages.

    • @SuperTotoro3
      @SuperTotoro3 Před 3 lety +3

      @@carolynquffa6 Okay, it seems your concern is that some might think he's saying Christ and God the Father are one personage. You're right, we believe they are separate heavenly beings with one purpose or goal; different than the trinitarian view.
      I feel his intention at 8:15 is to expand our understanding (beyond that they are separate beings united in the common mission of redemption): Jehovah in the Old Testament is Christ, just as the God who instructs prophets and disciples in the Book of Mormon is Christ. God the Father had this plan of Salvation and Christ is the 'executor' of the Father's plan. He is not only our older brother, He is a God and is thereby our connection to the Father. He is our connection to mercy, life and light, and divine help. He acts under the direction of the Father. Does that help clarify?

    We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
    👇
    Apostle James Talmage wrote, "...who, in his right mind could for one moment suppose the Bible in its present form to be a perfect guide? Who knows that even one verse of the Bible has escaped pollution." (Divine Authority of the Book of Mormon, p. 47) Joseph Smith himself said, "Many insertions were made, some of them 'slanted' for selfish purposes, while at times deliberate falsifications and fabrications were perpetrated" (As Translated Correctly, p. 4).
    The translation of the King James bible wss done by people working for king James. The latin Vulgate was done by papal scholars. The Lutheran (German translation) was done by Martin Luther. And so on. Each version of the bible reflected the understanding and biases of the translators. This is why we have to temper our belief with the clause "as far as it is translated correctly."
    On top of that the source documents for each of the translations have unverifiable provenances themselves.
    Many forget that many portions of The Book of Mormon came in the middle of The Old Testament and before The New Testament.
    Why do we even need the book of Mormon when there is the Bible already?
    The problem is that the rest of Christianity reads the bible and they can't agree on many points of doctrine, The Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible that helps clear up some of those points and clarifies others. It helps to put down false doctrines and establish correct ones.

    There is no way Muhammad could have written the Koran on his own. So that means it’s true, right?
    This argument is so weak. It’s basically saying “based on the story that Joseph and his friends told, they couldn’t have conspired to commit a fraud, because they said so.”
    Just a bit naive.
