An Interview with an LDS Freemason
Welcome to our special bonus episode, where Casey and I interview a friend of our show, Lon Tibbitts. In our previous episode we discussed at length the relationship between masonry and the development of the temple endowment in Nauvoo, a topic people have a lot of questions about. So we thought you might enjoy hearing from Lon Tibbitts, who has served both as an LDS ward bishop and as a master of his Masonic Lodge in Utah. Lon is a keen student of both Masonic and LDS history, and in this interview he sheds light on the origins of Freemasonry; on why so many Nauvoo Latter-day Saints joined the fraternity; on connections between Masonry and the endowment, the Relief Society, and the martyrdom of Joseph Smith; as well as the later fraught relationship between Freemasons and Latter-day Saints in Utah. We hope you enjoy it.
This is the fifth episode of our 10-part podcast series on Temple Worship. For a full transcript of this episode, as well as show notes and additional resources, visit our website at doctrineandcovenantscentral.org/podcast-episode/an-interview-with-an-lds-freemason/

The Origins of the Temple Endowment
zhlédnutí 1,6KPřed 7 hodinami
What Latter-day Saints today call the temple endowment was first given by the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1842, two years prior to his death, to a small group of nine of his trusted associates in Nauvoo, Illinois. It was a key piece of the larger, vibrant temple liturgy then developing in Nauvoo. But where did this temple endowment come from? What was its relationship to the Prophet’s previous reve...

As the climax of the Kirtland Endowment on April 3, 1836, Joseph Smith received sacred keys in rapid succession from Moses, Elias, and Elijah. This was the primary purpose for which the Kirtland Temple was built. Joseph had now received all that was necessary for the next phase of temple building, which he hoped would take place in northern Missouri at the settlements of Far West and Adam-ondi-...

But what exactly was this endowment? What power was given from on high? Was it one thing or several thi...

Having served as a Stake Patriarch for 8 years, this insight on Father Smiths ordination as the first Patriarch in this dispensation was profoundly moving to me. I have visited that room, and felt the quiet peace that prevailed there. Inspiration, revelation, and visions, are not reserved for the early brethren, nor for just General Authorities, and is a great blessing to all faithful Saints striving to live humble, determined, consecrated lives. The endowment as we have it comes from Brigham Young, not Joseph. Brigham claimed he understood the endowment, but took 40 years to attempt to put it together, and then handed it off to Wilford Woodruff to finish. Brigham polluted the ritual, and we are finally cleaning it up by getting back to Joseph’s temple conception. Given the Consideration that a Navajo Man was Baptized into our Ward, and my Bishop was impressed to put his Left hand on his Right Elbow, and there were 4 of Us in his Confirmation, and my Bishop at the time didn't know it, but that Symbol is Sacred too the Navajo People, and used in Traditional Instruction, and Ordinances wherein they have to enter into this Hogan, and it is preparatory for the day when they have to tell The Holy People who they are, and who their Ancestors are, and say "May I enter" and they have to give the Sacred Name that was given too them as well as keep sacred their Wife's Ceremonial Name. I think Free Masonry in light of such things is largely irrelevant in regards too the Endowment Ceremony. Navajo Traditional Teachings is a Great Channel to Watch especially his more recent video. The Mormon religion believes that their gods that reminds me of Satan who thought he wanted to be God now the entire Mormon religion is of the devil and there's no saving anything of it and so if you're a Mormon repent of it go into the scriptures and find out that we are not gods and we never will be what we are our children of God made in his image without his power how do you give us his power we would have destroyed ourselves long ago the devil uses false religions Mormonism the Jehovah witnesses The Seventh-Day Adventists the Buddhist religion the Hindu religion the Muslim religion none of these can save and so what Joseph Smith and his brother were teaching was blasphemy and that's why they were eventually killed because they were promoting the work of the devil in God's not going to protect Satan's children

I find it very alarming that Christ never mentioned Joseph Smith the Mormon religion or anything what he did warn us about his false prophets and false christs I've studied the Mormon religion and I've come to the conclusion that it's a religion that's based on the devil's ideologies because the Bible is clear there's no as we know it upon the Earth but in the book of Mormon it talks about having thousands of wives having thousands of children all of that is nonsense and a lie I'm going to share something with you that I think is very very interesting and very powerful I asked the Lord why are there so many denominations why is the church like a piece of glass shattered into so many pieces why are there false denominations and the Lord answered and said my sheep know my voice and another they shall not follow and so all who follow Joseph Smith will follow him into the lake of fire prepared for the devil and his angels it is my sincere prayer that anybody that's a Mormon can repent of this wickedness and come to Faith in Jesus the son of God and not a doctrine that Satan delivered to Joseph Smith and his brotherand this complete and total stupidity of marrying as many women as you want it's just of the devil I pray for the Mormons that they might come to Faith and come out of this death that they're in

I think this is very important for people to understand The book of Mormon is called the companion of the Bible yeah there is no such thing also the visitation of Joseph Smith what's not an angel of the Lord but the devil in disguise of an Angel the Bible is clear that a man should marry one woman and one alone yet in the book of Mormon it says that men could marry as many wives as they can multiples and it also implies that in heaven will have hundreds or thousands of wives Jesus made it very Jesus made this very clear when they asked him Lord whose wife will the man who had seven brothers married his wife and they all died whose wife will she be in heaven Jesus answered and said you do are for there'll be no marriage in the Kingdom of heaven for they'll be like the angels of God so the deception that the Mormon church has upon its own believers is devastating to say the least but Jesus never identified himself as a Mormon and the angels that Joseph Smith talks about are not mentioned in the scriptures and so what do we have we have a movement that was based on a lie that Joseph Smith received from Satan in the disguise of an angel of lightunfortunately Joseph Smith and his brother were murdered and that was of the devil but the bottom line is there's no mention of a companion in the Bible there's no mention of Joseph Smith as a prophet of the most high God there's nothing what Mormonism is is the same as Hinduism Muslims Buddhism are any other denominational face that would exalt itself above the complete and total Majesty of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ it is my sincere prayer that any Mormon that reads this will be free and that they'll receive Christ as their lord and savior and denounce this Mormonism that is of the devil and unfortunately that's what the Mormon Church represents the devil's church not Jesus Christ

I appreciate how you guys are as transparent as possible while still respecting the sacred character of the temple ordinances. So many Latter-day Saints are afraid to discuss temple worship at all, which I think gives outsiders or radical anti-Mormons a hostage to fortune when they want to claim they're sinister or secret. Also refreshing to hear such frank discussion of the Masonic influence.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints cannot escape this one fact, and whether you believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet or not, or that he received this revelation or not, you will be amazed at what I am about to tell you. The very first words that were reported to have been received from the Lord, in this dispensation of time, was recorded in July of 1828, and can be found in the Church’s first attempt to publish the Doctrine and Covenants, in a book with the title of: A Book of Commandments, of 1833. Those words can be found in chapter II of that Book, where the Lord is reported to have told Joseph Smith that His (the Lord’s words) never “vary from that which He hath said”. The Lord is then said to have explained his purposes for the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon. This revelation is written in response to Joseph Smith and Martin Harris losing the first 116 pages they translated from the Book of Mormon. Joseph was told not to re-translate the part they had lost, because of a “Cunning Plan” Satan had, to influence those that then had the 116 pages, to “alter” the words so that they would read “contrary” to how they were meant to be understood. That “Cunning Plan” is meant to destroy the work of the Lord, in not only the bringing forth of the Book of Mormon, but also in destroying its true purpose. Joseph was told to repent of his bad behavior and he would be allowed to continue on with the translation, with the only one gift he was ever to be given. He was told to NOT pretend to any other gifts, for he would not be given any other gift. (period!) Joseph Smith supposedly repented, and was allowed to finish the work of translating the rest of the Book of Mormon, which was later published in 1830. Joseph read what he translated, and imagined it was all about him, and began to return to his past bad behavior, and fell for that “Cunning Plan” by altering the words he said the Lord revealed to him in his first revelations. He contradicts what the Lord had told him, about his gift, and the purposes of the Book of Mormon. These and many other contradictions can be found in the records, scriptures, and teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Especially, in the practices of “Dead Works” done in the temples that contradict what the Holy Ghost revealed to Mormon, in the Book of Mormon, of the Lord’s words, concerning the baptism of “little children”, and those that “die without a knowledge of the gospel”. The Lord has warned those that put their trust in “Dead Works”! Which “Dead Works” mock the Lord’s mercy of his atoning sacrifices for “little children” and “those that die without a knowledge of the gospel”, and which also denies the power of his Holy Spirit! Please take care that you do not contradict what the Lord has already told us, and that you do not follow that “Cunning Plan”. It is written, in the Book of Mormon, that the Lord will send his servant to tell his brethren these things, but they will not believe him. He says they will mar him, but they will not hurt him. That servant was not Joseph Smith, because they not only hurt him, they killed him! But the Lord said that He (the Lord) will heal his servant, for He will show unto them (those that do not believe), that His (the Lord’s) wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil!
