In this classic Scientific Anglers Mastery series film Gary Borger reviews tactics and techniques for fly fishing dry flies and how to identify holding water, riffles and lies.
Yeah and those god-awful plastic fly boxes too. I still have the 10 that I bought from that time. The system 2 fly reels on the other hand were quite good. I still have two of them.
@@ScientificAnglers Looks like probably 1983 judging by the copyright notice at the beginning of the film. Of course they had to use Roman numerals for the date! Thanks for posting this BTW.
The large Henry's Fork rainbow in the film was caught Saturday, June 26, 1983. I know because I was fishing on the other side of the river that day and saw the film crew. A letter from Gary later confirmed the date. Despite the bright sky the Green Drakes poured off that day. Turned into my best day ever back when the Henry's Fork was something really special.
I hope you guys upload more classic videos.
I wore out the tape of this video in the mid 1980's. It just proves that the basics of the sport hold up over the test of time.
SO much great information in there!
I love watching the old school videos. Thanks ‼️🤙🏽
a true treasure. that goes to all 3m/john fabian productions... please upload more.
There are more on the way Amir- we have a channel for all the historic Mastery Movies on the channel so they are easy to find!
Thanks for this gem of an upload.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much for sharing this blast from the past.
An oldie, and still a goldie.
Glad you enjoyed it, its one of our favorites.
I worked in a fly tackle shop beginning in 1988 and we had this video for rent. I think it was a fairy new video at the time.
The advice is still absolutely valid today.
Pre stimulator video! I used to have a pair of Borger wading boots. They worked great. So much fabulous information in this video.

Glad it was helpful!

Thank you for uploading!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent - thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
I have this on VHS. And it's a good one. But I would add one thing: Put on a Renegade or Soft Hackle and catch fish all day.
What year was this made? A true gem!
We believe 1986

Borger is such a gomer. Fishing private water and acting like an expert. That was his trademark. "Doctor Obvious".
Haha!
Filmed on the Madison River and not on private water.
