1970 Ferrari 312B F1 Car GREAT Sound - Accelerations & Fly Bys On Track!!

  • During the 2016 Minardi Historic Day at Imola Circuit I recorded this beautiful 1970 Ferrari 312B (B1) Formula 1 car making some accelerations and fly bys. The car is owned and driven by the Italian ex-F1 driver Paolo Barilla.
Born in 1970 the Ferrari 312B was driven by Jacky Ickx and Clay Ragazzoni and it was able to achieve 4 victories and a 2nd place in the World Constructors Championship. It was followed by other two evolutions called 312 B2 (1971-1973) and 312 B3 (1973-1975).
The 1970 312B was powered by a 3.0-litre flat-12 engine with a max power of 450 bhp at 11,500 rpm.
The car you saw in this video was the last 312B so called B1 that was raced in the first two races of 1971 before introducing the 312 B2 and it was the one driven by Clay Ragazzoni that won the 1970 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Sigo sin entender cual es el propósito de que en cada video de sonidos de motores se encuentre el comentario cliche de moda como este, siempre! No saben comentar otra cosa?

As a note of curiosity, this car ran low profile Firestone tyres in 1970 and 1971, together with the Lotus 72, which may come as a surprise to a lot of people today, who were led to believe F1 will have low profile tyres for the very first time now in 2022. I believe this car, specifically, was running on normal tyres because it must have been impossible to get the low profile rubber, since Firestone stopped manufacturing those specific tyres in the end of 1972, which, by the way, took away the advantage Lotus had, over Tyrrell as of 1973 because the car had been built for those low profile tyres. Still... in 1973 Lotus lost the drivers championship, but won the constructors with something like 7 victories between Peterson and Fittipaldi.

They were brave and didn't think about the danger. I always wonder what would happen if an entire race weekend with cars from the early 1970's was set up, say for 15 drivers of today, each one in a car from the period, distributed by lottery; the whole deal, from 4 practice periods, to Sunday warmup, to a full race. I will guess no one would cross the finish line, and many gearboxes would minced in the process. What makes this event impossible is the fact no owner of a vintage F1 car like this beautiful 312B would leave their jewels in the hands of any of today's boys. Imagine how quickly Verstappen, Sainz, or Kvyat would trash a car like this? ( not to mention the real potential for death occurring… ; º )

So the B1 was taken back from the garage for the last 1971 GP, the US GP at Watkins Glen. Without a small technical problem, Ickx would have won the race !
