So undiscovered. I am amazed by how few know this work. So emotional.

Abbado was a great Debussy conductor. His Pelléas, in particular, is outstanding!

I fully agree with you. On the other hand, the Karajan interpretation (of Pelleas) is also outstanding, not least because of the singers.

Thank you so much for sharing this so so beautiful version!!!!!
This deserves to be among the highest VIEWS on youtube .... why?
Because its one of the finest pieces of art humans have ever made ... first of all Rossettis poem, Debussys unbelievable beautiful composition and Abbados "impossible" (revolutionary) tender conduction ... its a 150 year lasting masterpiece!!!
This piece can hold up to the beauty and perfection of Ravels Daphnis and Chloe or Mahlers 9th or Sibelius 4 Legends or Massenets works ....
    i love it ... forever!
    Thanks! :)

Etrange sujet que celui de cette damoiselle élue qui attend au paradis que son amoureux la rejoigne. La musique de Debussy est absolument féérique...

Thanks for posting - I was just listening to my vinyl copy of Eugene Ormandy - Bidu Sayao - Soprano and Rosalind Nadell - Contralto and thought I'd listen to a stereo performance.

I first heard La Damoiselle Elue sung by Monserrat Caballe. I was transfixed. This is gorgeous although I love Monserrat's version. She has the more beautiful voice but this is really beautiful.

I guess, this is Maria Ewing singing.
Unfortunately, I could not find any recording with Montserrat Caballe, but this one with Mme. Ewing (?) is enchanting.
