The Charger/300C/Challenger crew have been doing the suitcase delete, AKA the "Brylcreem Mod" for at least ten years now. Most folks are happy with the sound, some aren't, but in terms of cost vs. sound, it's hard to beat.
Three issues with this mod, though; first, if you must use crush-bent pipes, you don't want them that far up in the system where they'll restrict exhaust flow the most. Second, if you live in the Northeast, you want either grade 409 or 390 stainless. If I had to guess, I'd say what you have there is most likely aluminized steel, which will rust. You don't want to be cutting this mod out and having to re-do it. Third, the most important feature of the "suitcase" or "butterfly" muffler is that it is open to both sides and serves as a balancing pipe, which the Hemi benefits from.
I doubt you'll see a big performance hit, but I'd be willing to bet that a dyno would show your power band's been moved up. A little less power/torque down low, a little more at the top of the powerband. That's the opposite of what you want, especially in a truck, but really in anything street-driven.
If you'd like to try this mod, do yourself a favor and buy a ready-made X-pipe (or H-pipe if you can find one), some 45º elbows, and some straight pipe (all 409 or better stainless!) and have the shop weld in those pieces instead. The stainless bits will cost you a little more, but you'll save on the labor because they won't be measuring and bending as much. Your Hemi will definitely breathe better, and when you sell the truck, anyone inspecting it will see a nice, clean, professional setup instead of sketchy-looking crush-bent pipes in the middle of your otherwise clean factory exhaust.

When you said your gonna do a cheap muffler mod,, the first thing came to my mind was Willets Point Queens. I had them do many exhaust system for me and my old clients. Former Brooklynite here.
All the exhaust work on my MB cars done there at old Shea Stadium aka Citi Field now.

my 2014 jeep grand cherokee had x pipe muffler and resonators, i took it to a shop and had the resonators taken off left the muffler on and it sounded great
Great video! I've been weighing doing the mid-muffler delete vs resonator delete. I ended up doing the resonator delete. It's just a personal preference. Point is, your video helped TREMENDOUSLY with my decision. Very well done, and entertaining to boot. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
What made you go resonator instead of mid muffler? I'm trying to decide myself. I want a deep growl with no raspiness.

Compare it to the muffler delete video here. It's hard to get a real world audio feel on CZcams but in this case the difference is pretty obvious. Again, it's just a personal preference. Best of luck!

Getting myself a Durango RT this month. Going straight to that shop. I'm in Forest Hills. $150 is nothing. I did a similar MOD few years ago on my 550i. It was amazing.

He closes his eyes right before tack welding it. A lot of old school welders do this. He had the mask when he had to finish the rest of it though.
Just did it. Mid muffler delete. Sounds redicilous if you PUSH IT. No drone. Nice and quiet cruising. All Durangos should come like this STOCK.

It's funny, this is the 1st time I've seen this video and we done this to our rango RT as well last year. It's funny because if your not in it on the gas, it's quite and stomp it then it gets loud and people are like "woah".

as a rule, the exhaust system is tuned for dynamic air pressures, which occurs due to the correct configuration of the exhaust system, when the exhaust gases resonate with the intake and improve the filling of the cylinders, I would not interfere with the exhaust system, at least in part from the muffler to the engine
Mid-muffler delete and electronic cut-outs is a better way to go. You'll get a throaty sound throughout the whole rev range. And if you do get the cutouts you'll be able to adjust the sound to your liking with a flick of a switch. By far the best mod I've done to my DRT yet !
Bro in my country (Poland) this type of exhaust modification i can get for about 150-200zł which is 50-70 dollars for you . Its really considerable tho. To be honest im thinking about gettin a Durango r/t OR Charger RT for 2 years(now im building a house and i must end it first). Anyway, my friend just bought a 300c HEMI and this engine is outstanding.

Hey Stefan just got my mid-muffler removed, didn't do the straight pipes, went with Dynomax bullet race mufflers. A bit louder than stock at full throttle, but nice and mellow. Jim took care of me quick 15 min in and out. Your review helped with the decision.

Did this on our 2014 r/t. Sounds good at hard acceleration from a stop, but had an ugly rattly sound at the top end, like accelerating hard at 45-60 mph. Good for cheap, but its not too much more to put in a decent muffler thats meant to handle the muscle car sound.

Hemi Power SRT 8 All the Hemi up exhaust is super heavy. Shit will hurt you bad if it drops on you if you're removing it on your back and it happens to drop on your chest...

@@sexybologna111 I did a custom job on my own, got an SXT with M80s on it no resonators, shits so damn loud. Cost me about $200 total but you gotta have the right equipment. Well worth it tho sounds just as good as a straight piped R/T maybe even better...

Tough looking and sounds dope. I plan on getting the R/T in a year after my lease is up. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, boring 3.6 lol. This video was great! Your rim and tires look chunky. Did you add spacers? About 15 years ago I took my supercharged Pontiac to a muffler shop in Brooklyn. The guy charged me $200, hooked it up. Small shops are the best ones to go to.
