RIP DAVID GUY WAS SO UNIQUE AND TALENTED
All that and a great Stevie Ray Vaughn solo!
This song is now 40 years old. It definitely has that unmistakable 80s sound, yet still has a classic feel. Bowie is a true legend and icon, with a body of work spanning several decades. His musical genius cannot be overstated.
Always enjoy your reactions, Chod.
Ty Messieur Toddy... Love this song...the man on lead is none other than Stevie Ray Vaughn!
Original version is by Iggy Pop from 1977. It's a bit more weird and post punk sounding. I love both versions.
I actually saw him live twice. The first time was his tour for Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Life changing. The next time was in the early 2000’s at an outdoor venue that got rained out:( This is my favorite Bowie song. It’s fire.
I also got to see him live twice .. both highlights in life ..Bowie Forever. ❤..
That was Stevie Ray Vaughan on the guitar solo
David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter & actor. He constantly reinvented himself to stay current over nearly 5 decades. His first big hit was "Space Oddity" in 1969. He has had a lot of great songs including "Starman", "Ziggy Stardust", "Rebel Rebel", "Young Americans", "Hero", "Fame", "Golden Years", "Ashes To Ashes", "Under Pressure", "Let's Dance", "Modern Love" etc.
The video clips for China Girl and Lets Dance in 1983 were filmed in Australia. This gave a Beautiful back drop to his sound and voice.
Imo one of his best Songs. And there are so many good Songs.😊
the base and synths really set a nice mood for this song
Produced by Nile Rodgers on the Let's Dance Album
Originally a song sung by Iggy Pop written by both him and David Bowie. This version was made cause Iggy was struggling financially to make a new album. So Bowie remade his own version of the song which was very popular was already a good song Bowie’s fame just helped more here it. And the royalties from it went to help out Iggy Pop.
With the help of Nile Rodgers
Back then, this beat caused ladies to ‘shoulder walk’ as they danced. 😂
The double dance step allowed the start and stop of the sway to half step left and right on each quick beat.
A lot of the songs had this type of quick beat to keep the body moving through to the end.
And then it turned into a House Bass Beat.
Keep those feet movin to the drums, then you can groove to the bass line with your head, shoulders and hips, until your full body goes along for the ride.
Bowie would have been one of those guys who bet a friend that he could make anyone dance and to make sure he won, he wrote and preformed Let’s Dance for a world wide audience; still holding on to an IOU.
Great song! Remember loving MTV during this album release! Fabulous
This is the album he was touring when I saw him. DIVINE, he was beautiful too.
You need to check out Stay from him. What a frigging riff!!!
One of my favorites. ❤
This is Bowie at his starriest peak, all pop on the surface thanks to Nile Rodgers’ rhythm guitar and super sleek production. But unusually, it is the drums and the bass that carry the melody and the lyrics are so dark. By contrast Iggy Pop’s original recording is pared down, more cabaret.
Nile Rodgers produced the song but the guitar work was Phil Palmer on lead guitar and Carlos Alomar on rhythm guitar.
@@BobSoltis1..the guitar rifts came from Nile Rodgers

I love your reactions! Love from Montana!
Damn radio edit!
Everything Nile Rodgers produced back then was fire! I could definitely hear some of his rhythm guitar work on this track, he is just an amazing musician as well as producer.
Bowie was a musical genius and an icon. There's so much of his music you can explore. My favourite is Life On Mars. It came out in 1973. I was 10 years old and remember how awed I was when I first heard it.
Something I'd overlooked for so long in this song, is that it doesn't follow a traditional song structure at all. Chorus is at the beginning, then a few verses before the bridge, then breakdown, which then extends into a middle-eight (?). One for the bass players, as the bass really carries this tune, bolstered by that classic Power Station production.
On a different note, a lot of people claim the song is problematic, due to the outdated "Oriental" motif, and references to "China Girl". I've assumed that the song is actually about "H" ("I'm a wreck without my China girl"), as Iggy was using, during the time he wrote the original.
I saw The Spiders in ‘73 at the Hammersmith odeon, and several times since.
The thing about Bowie is the charisma he has on stage.
Every show I’ve seen has been special.
RIP Starman.
Bowie...Stevie Ray Vaughn solo...Nile Rogers production...Epic!!!
Something so cool how the kick, snare and cymbal crashes are so focused and sonically glued together...
Bowie was just incredible, no question about it. Glad that you enjoyed this song.
Among bowies best.
This 'Chic-type' recording reminds me so much of the touch of Quincy Jones, where the song isn't in one particular genre.
There's the funk of Niles Rodgers, solid back beat of Carmine Rojas and Omar Hakim, and the blue rock tinge of Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar.
The album "Let's Dance' was epic!
Those that are into this music, go check out 'the Power Station'; which is a bit of Chic, Duran Duran, Tower of Power horns, and the great Robert Palmer on vocals. Outstanding debut album!
Absolute beginners is a must great underrated song
SRV played the solo on this as he did on most of the album. I saw Bowie on this tour the weekend after Hurricane Alicia in Houston in '83...
There's so much great songs from David Bowie. Of course, the greatest hits: Life on mars?, space oddity, rebel rebel, starman, suffragette city, golden years, ashes to ashes, heroes, even let's dance.
I love this album and saw him in concert in Vancouver when he was promoting this album. Fantastic concert.
Isn't that Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead guitar as well? If I'm not mistaken, this was the album he contributed to. Repeat Legend status
You're clearly very sensitive to sound. It's fun to watch. Thank You
I love the Chinese flavour to this tune.
There's a similar theme to the song "Once In Our Lifetime" by the band, Texas.
Great album. Bowie comeback.
Stevie Ray on the solo.
SRV on guitar. Great right?
In the video, D Bowie comes across like he is playing. SRV says I ain't playing with you anymore.
With gloves on? C'mon man, get some humour!
The POINT IS: SRV gets 0 credit, he wasn't even known at that point.
Co written with Iggy Pop ❤
I'm 48, Grew up to metal and hip hop but this bassline......... nothing like it.
Time for more Janis Joplin. Try Janis Joplin Work Me Lord Live in Stockholm. This may very well end up being your favorite JJ performance.
hey my channel u realy dont know bowie ok? this man is a top 5 artist in all genres , yes he is a great vocal, and myusician too , and more actor, writer , he domain ok? hey desrespect reacts not alive , rock/metal need the stage ok? f... corpiright
Hidden in plain sight. Rock music is full of these "little girls"
Listen to Iggy Pop's version, far superior to Bowie's version imo.
A poor second to Iggy's version
Written with Iggy Pop😊
