I'd love them to make a mini figure pack with just students from each house. It'd be a much cheaper way to get students to populate your Hogwarts. Or like one of those city packs where its like 14 figures and just a load of side builds for £39.99. Imagine a set with 12 figures and 3 random students from each house, and all the side builds can be like the ones in this set.
Honestly, you could use the blue hairpiece to make a custom Teddy Lupin. Combine that with Rose, and this is probably the closest thing to a Cursed Child set LEGO will ever release.
Love the concept of this trunk.. love the diversity of minifigs parts, finally the right hair piece and colour for my sigfig! I actually don’t mind the additional parts, I’ll be using them on my existing sets/MOCS.. could swap out all the boring Harry heads I already have with all the different heads/hair pieces from this set.. love the printed bertie botts (finally!), marauders map, more polyjuice potion, blue owl and quibbler.. I actually like the fact they made the trunk lockable, thought it was pretty cool.. I think the top of trunk will look better with the additional stickers included in the set as shown in their promotional stop motion video.. I’ll most probably display the trunk on its own, and use all the interiors for my existing sets/MOCs.. I was sitting on the fence but after watching your review I actually want to get this set! Thank you for the review :) But I’ll defo wait for sale, no way I’m paying full price for this set even though i like it and think it’s cool..

I bought this and was pretty disapointed. I wanted some of the pieces......but the build is so small.....and I regret not waiting for it to go on sale. Not a day 1 purchase I would wait for at least 20% off. Good review holly!

I completely agree with your review! The special new parts/accessories are the best, might buy them separately on bricklink. Also I got kinda the feeling that Lego doesn't know where to go with Lego Harry Potter and they just try random things to see if it works... while hopefully getting lots of money in the proces.
This is why I'm wondering about trying a bootleg set in the future. They're sold on Wish and other sites and aren't even half the price. Lego SEVERELY overprices their stuff these days. I remember when I was a kid and they were affordable. Now they want $30 for bits of plastic that I know cost them barely $9 to mold. The markup is triple that because of their popularity and the quality is not as good as it used to be. Parts break more easily than ever. My 10217 set Diagon Alley has a lot of broken pieces and I can't replace a lot of them because they don't sell replacement parts on the Lego website.
if you put the blue hair with a hufflypuf torso, it can be Teddy Lupin, the son of Remus and Tonks. just like his mother he's a metamorphmagus, so he can change his hair to any colour and in most of the fan art it's blue
I assumed all those on the LEGO ambassador network had to leave good reviews, Great to see a good honest review of this, Shocked its so small to be honest
I wish they had stuck with one scene, say the sorting house scene, went all out on the design of that, and then included the option to create your own minifigure, so that way you still have the creativity but it also doesn't feel like a lot of the pieces are just going to waste. It's a neat idea overall I just wish they had not made it so customizable as to become overwhelming
Thanks for the review Holly. I was looking forward to this set but it does look a lot smaller than I thought. I don’t mind extra pieces as they can go into my inventory but the value is just so poor. Will still get it but I will be waiting for a very big discount or clearance price.
This is one of the few sets that I genuinely want from this year (the Hospital Wing for the interior and the Horizon Zero Dawn set are the only other ones) and I don’t think the price is that terrible in America but a sale never hurts.
It's odd, I don't care about Harry from the Story, just not my cup of coffee, but the building sets are really fun. I typically just use all the pieces for mocs. Little Ron makes a great Cabin boy!!
Great review! I agree that this set looks underwhelming for the price. The trunk looks too small, and there are a lot of pieces that would be unused. The extra pieces could easily be lost. Definitely won't be a day one purchase. Might be one to skip.
You have changed my mind. I was planning to get 2 or even 3, to make all the (inside) variants. But seeing how small it actually is, I think I'll just stick to 1. Amazing though how some of the parts are, you get a lot of extra pieces. Better get this at a discount/sale.
Also a Positive, those blues are great for water building, the greens great for grassy areas, the gray is excellent for rounding castles... All great pieces! GREAT REVIEW.

I feel like it's exactly as you said ... an accessory set to other hogwarts set... that said ... it really adds a lot to a complete 2010 hogwarts castle... really like it
I know this is a Harry Potter set so there's a sort of premium on them but the fact that it's so relatively small for how much it costs and that there's been far more significantly sized sets (albeit unlicensed like the Dinosaur Fossils set) hovering around the same price or even less than this simply cannot be ignored. A certain someone says this is totally worth it for the figures but that's obvious bias and not a good reason to pay so much for something like this. And in the UK, this costs more than TWO Hogwarts Moments sets together!
I agree with your review as you made lots of good points. As an AFOL not getting this one BUT this set was developed for the younger HP fans and as such Lego did a great job of that as it has lots of play features. Not all sets will be suitable for adults and that is OK.
I think this is a great set, especially all the modifications you are able to do. I've heard a lot of compliants about the price and I think it really depends where you live and the currency you have. In Australia and Canada it really appears to be priced a lot higher than say in Europe (where I live) its 60 euros (you can already find it for cheaper) which in comparison to many Lego sets really isn't a bad deal.
These are my same feelings about the new Boba’s Palace too. It’s a cool set with some great figures in it but the price is insane. I bought it on a whim because I found it a couple weeks early, and I was very disappointed after building it just because of the price of $100 USD. Aside from the figures there was NOTHING special in the set, even the pieces are the most basic of pieces to build the palace, there’s really nothing special in it at all. I feel like this HP set, while still expensive for what it is, is still a better value than the $100 Boba’s Palace.
The banners are printed with the wrong windows, that is not what the sets look like. The banners have Gothic windows, the actual castle has Romantic style, except for the new Hospital Wing. Yes I know, even LEGO is helping making the world a dumber place, don't kill the messenger.
I was thinking this set reminds me of Polly pockets and than you said that too! personally I wish they would have just sold 4 separate sets for each of the houses instead of including all the pieces in 1. That way it could have been priced a little better, but oh well. Still it is a cool and new idea.

This definitely feels like a set you buy for the pieces and not the build itself. I'm gonna pick it up myself for the part selection but I think this set wouldve sold better as an accessory pack without the trunk build
I still plan on getting it- I think your views on it are valid and spot on- I’m not a fan of the overall size etc- but I mainly want to grab a few of these & see if I can make either a larger one, or swap out some of the tiles in the roadplate portion for more jumpers or even 1x2s to add some more space.. it’s definitely a parts pack- and I hate that the top of it has those exposed bricks- idk I guess I’ll need to find some square tiles or something to try to smooth it out- it’s overall disappointing compared to when we first heard about it- but I’m still gonna throw my money to lego & see what I can make out of it.

The extra sticker sheet really irks me. Like, I don't want to just put random stickers on big expensive bricks, but I do think it kind of needs more decoration to look the way it's supposed to. I may get a bunch of tiles specifically to put the extra stickers on, but even then, I have no idea how I would attach them to the set.
There's this kid at my school who comes in like every two weeks and has say green hair pink hair blue hair it never stops and he's in grade 5! Well he started doing it in grade 5 he's in grade 6 now but yeah he's gone through so many colours I don't think he even has any more left. Me and my friends joke around with him and say "my guy did you fall in another paint bucket again" now that might seem a bit mean but me and my mates are really close to him and he knows we're joking.
Why do they have to only include that awesome Mcgonagal figure in play sets that have little to no display ability. I would love to get that figure but both sets she is in don’t interest me at all.

I've been collecting Lego for 10 years now, but I've never had any Harry Potter sets, even tho I love the franchise and I've read all the books. I wanted to buy one set to sort of represent the lego harry potter line. In this set you get Harry, and you can make hermione, so thats great, and I feel like you get a very good representation of the line and all the elements of Hogwarts. Do you think its a good set for this or would you recomend the hospital wing for example or some of the new ones like dumbledores office or sirius's escape.
I think it’s an alright set but certain not for the price, the new line is a big step up and while some still feel a bit pricy, they have a lot more to offer and the builds are far better. The hospital wing as well I feel is a great set

i have a stupid question is the set 1 trunk where you have to change color to make 1 trunk from 1 house or is this set 4 trunks 1 for each house? if it is just 1 trunk and you can change the color then you need 4 sets 1 for each house and that is not cheap
I feel like this was supposed to be a much bigger set that they then reduced to fit in to the price, and it lost its purpose somewhere along the way. it feels clumsy like they didn't finish refining the design process and I am not as excited about it as I thought. Pass.

The weird hair colour choices is a bit odd, however there is always the notion that they could be metamorphamaguses like Tonks

i have a stupid question is the set 1 trunk where you have to change color to make 1 trunk from 1 house or is this set 4 trunks 1 for each house? if it is just 1 trunk and you can change the color then you need 4 sets 1 for each house and that is not cheap
It’s one with the colours to make one of four designs, so you’re right, it’s not great
To many small misses I'm passing it does little for me
I feel like this was supposed to be a much bigger set that they then reduced to fit in to the price, and it lost its purpose somewhere along the way. it feels clumsy like they didn't finish refining the design process and I am not as excited about it as I thought. Pass.
This set might be my most least favorite set from this wave and will def get it when it is on sale! I don’t really care for the customizable minifigures ☹️

The set is ok but I think I’ll pass. I rather normal HP sets.

I wasn't sure why she was so disappointed. *Right* until she turned to the back. WOW! The pictures did not make it seem *that* tiny
