Today's upload is an unfinished pre-release version of Out Here! Believed to have been made around the same time as Fasten Your Seatbelts, rumours were circulating about Pendulum breaks tunes being in the works by 2004 October. On 2004-10-24, Rob revealed the song title to be "Out There". This is the earliest known direct reference to their solo breaks track. www.dogsonacid.com/threads/dillinja-vs-pendulum-tonight.246482/#post-3144302 It was confirmed to have been played at the Pendulum @ Heat 2005-01-08 album preview set, now called "Out Here" rather than "Out There". This event was not recorded and we don't know what this version sounded like. www.dogsonacid.com/threads/pendulum-present-in-the-fire-8th-jan-2005-heat-pendulum-album-preview.262970/ On 2005-01-26, a work-in-progress Hold Your Colour album tracklist was revealed with Out Here listed as one of the tracks included. www.dogsonacid.com/threads/i-almost-wish-pendulum-werent-signed-to-bbk.267509/#post-3409544 Rob revealed an updated album tracklist on 2005-03-03, this time with Out Here noted as a CD ONLY release. www.dogsonacid.com/threads/pendulum-lp-wen-is-it-out-i-cant-sleep.275128/#post-3509613 By 2005 April, preparations were being made for HYC's first single release on vinyl - BBK009. Normally, this would be the 12" vinyl release of Tarantula and Fasten Your Seatbelts. www.discogs.com/release/459865-Pendulum-Tarantula-Fasten-Your-Seatbelt However, there was a lesser-known second version of this single on white label - with Fasten on the A side and Out Here on the AA side. They were cut with the purpose of being given to breaks DJs for promo and playout. www.discogs.com/release/5273555-Pendulum-3-Feat-Freestylers-Fasten-Your-Seatbelts-Out-Here This special promo was serviced on 2005-05-03, with a release date planned for sometime in 2005-06. Note that etching on the matrix runout suggests fasten to be BBK009AA and out here to be OUTHERE1, so it's not known whether they actually planned to release the breaks combo this way. It came with a Waxworks promo slip, including a couple words about the track: "[..] The flip side 'Out Here' is more Pendulum powered filth that will undoubtedly help to see them firmly established as serious contenders in the world of Breaks, as well as kings of the Drum 'n' Bass scene." The Out Here side of this promo vinyl got played by Control Z & Breakfastaz @ Raveart Summer Festival 2005-07-30. When we discovered the recording, we knew that they had an unfinished version on hand, but it wasn't until recently that we learned where it came from. www.raveart.es/sesiones/summer-festival/summer-festival-2005/ Fast forward to today - we finally got our hands on one of these. The audio you're hearing now is straight from this vinyl record! 😎 As for differences between the breaks dj promo version vs. the album version: -Different mixdown overall, less compressed in the mids and perc highs are more intense -0:13 the flanger/comb effect on this bongo is applied differently -1:11 arp lead-in notes are different -1:13 no arp, louder top loop, louder acoustic guitar, sub bass thumps (not present in final) -1:23 bass bend that's not in final -1:50 to 1:56 the "weh weeh" sound keeps playing, and the long winded lead-in sounds are missing -1:58 to 2:18 low end of funk guitar present at 250 hz (EQ'd out in final) -2:03 guitar detail that's not in final -2:18 to 2:26 sustained detail reece is missing, sub bass notes are different -2:27 to 2:45 reece stabs missing -(2:27 to 3:21 repeats the exact same differences as the first half) -3:21 kick and snare are muted (the final has a proper fill here) -3:23 crash and kick missing -3:26 pad mids are louder throughout the breakdown, guitar mix slightly different -3:53 no impact fx -4:14 arp pitchdown after stutter missing -4:18 highpassed bass patch effect is quieter -4:20 extra arp fill (not in final) -4:21 synth swipe effect keeps going for a couple seconds (cut off in final) -(4:26 to 5:20 same differences as in first half) -5:20 drop keeps playing (in final: outro starts here) -(no changes in outro) Brought to you by: Cherry linktr.ee/cherry412 Dagny linktr.ee/shredtune Hope you all enjoy!
As one of my favourite Pendulum tunes, mainly because of that beautiful breakdown, it’s really interesting to see the progression of production from this to the original release. Keep up the good work! Us Pendulum geeks need to hear these unearthed recordings! Absolutely fascinating!
Every time I read the history of tracks on this channel, I catch myself thinking “this is a whole epic of transformations.” I can’t imagine how many hours/days/weeks were spent searching for information, comparing facts and searching for primary sources. This is incredible!)))))
One of my favourites from Hold Your Colour, I am glad this version is Out Here now as well. I love making comparisons between unfinished and finished versions of songs.
Помню как услышал эту версию еще весной 2018 года, назывался видео Out Here (2005 January version). Воспоминания... Жаль что видео то удалил, или есть ссылка на него. сделал доступ по ссылке?
Do you have the demo version of Nothing For Free, I just found a clip of that song with a more KP-style drop that was played some 3 years before release
