I was thinking we'd get one after the Trials of Mana remake. Companies tend to release remakes of dormant franchises in order to test the waters for if people want a new game, and since Trials of Mana sold well it made sense that they'd be making a brand new Mana game.
SO many elements from Secret of Mana I thought it was a remake. We saw bosses from Secret like the preying mantis guy and a mushroom town, not to mention the main character looks like secret of mana's protag.
This was the highlight of the Game Awards (and one of the only non-miserable things about it), I'm so excited! I'm hoping it's just as good as the Trials of Mana remake, if not better!

Trials of Mana Remake was a lot of fun. Hopefully they use that as inspiration for this in many ways. Oh, and bring in Yoko Shimomura for the OST like in Legend. They do those things, I'm in. Otherwise, very cautiously optimistic.
I've been saying for the past 3 or 4 years, this era is going to be looked back on as a second Golden Age for Square. Since 2018 or so, they've been consistently killing it when it comes to RPGs, giving the fans what they've really wanted. Short of a Xenogears remaster or remake, I can't think of anything I would have realistically wanted to see in the last decade or so that hasn't come about, and quite a few have that I never would have expected, like the revival of SaGa, Star Ocean, Mana and even Live-A-Live. A lot of people are still understandably jaded and bitter from the last 20 or so years so they're missing it, but believe me, 10 years from now everyone's going to be looking back on this era going "Wow...they were really firing on all cylinders". They finally realized they're sitting on a gold mine and are utilizing it.
Aw yeah man! I love the fact that so many people will get a chance to play, feel bad for Switch owners but it may have to wait for whenever the Super Nintendo Switch comes out. 😛

Day one buy! Purchased my SNES in 1993 to play Secret of Mana and for 30 years it has remained my favorite game of all time. This trailer looked incredible…and that music! Perfect! Without question, my most anticipated 2024 release.

For me this game was the most important announcement of the whole show. After the success of the Trials of Mana I really hoped that Suqare Enix would carry the torch on to the next game which seems they did.
I was in awe when i saw the trailer last night in the Awards stream, between this and the SEGA new games annoucements i'm super excited. At first i was thinking it was a Dawn of Mana remake because the protagonist was kinda similar, but thankfully it wasn't.

I love secret of mana 1 and 2 on snes! Also liked secret of evermore quite a lot! Those games got me into JRPGS. I was disappointed when I finally played Legend of mana since it was very different. Never played much of the later ones until they released the mana collection and then the remake of Trials of mana! Absolutely loved that game! Only missed the coop from the original. Seeing this makes me soooo happy though! Most awaited game by far! I do hope they dont make it open world though, mostly because of the reason you mention, its hard to fill an open world with meaningful things and I dont think the Mana series needs it. For me it was always about beautifully crafted places and fun gameplay!
So they label this as "Semi-Open Field", which after a day of thought, I believe that it's an appropriate term for Breath of The Wild/TOTK, in a way. You aren't entirely in a full encompassing world, more of a large, collective 'field' with different biomes that separate each allocation. I'd presume it's feasible that it's mostly open world but with differences in loading locations. What I'm desperately hoping for is world exploration like in SD2 & SD3, where you can use a boat or a flying dragon to cross the land. But we'll have to see!
I'm mostly sure, the game is not announced for the Switch, as it will be released on the Switch II and that hasn't been announced. Surprisingly many titles are not announced on the Switch these days, I guess for exactly that reason. We will see a heavy launch catalogue when the Switch successor is announced next year.
I'm not huge into the Mana series, though I do wanna play more of the Trial remake which I have on Switch. But this new one looks really good and I'm glad it'll be on PS4.
I didn't notice it wasn't slated to release on the switch. Kind of a weird thing since my main mana game was secret of mana; I did get legends of mana(?) for the PS1 but the used copy I bought (was kind of pricey at the time for me, even used) was damaged so it glitched once I got to a certain point in the game. I'm actually glad square kind of parted ways with Ninttendo, it means I can get this game on steam and play it on PC, no need to get a switch; wouldn't have anyways, it's too old of a console at this point and underpowered. I'd maybe would have considered a Switch 2 possibly.
It looks like it could be really good. The combat is giving me Rogue Galaxy vibes, which I really liked despite its flaws. In a perfect world I would have liked a bit more interesting art style but it's ok. But Trials was bad so I'm cautiously optimistic.
What if there's no switch logo...because it will be on nintendo's new console? Maybe they don't want this to be the way it's "leaked" officially. All the Mana games have had a pretty close relationship to Nintendo right?

We have Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy Relink, FF7 Rebirth, Unicorn Overlord, Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes, and Trails Through Daybreak coming in that six-ish month period. 2024 is absolutely a gigantic year for the genre. Visions of Mana and Decapolice adding to what I mentioned above...pretty stoked.

The visuals and gameplay looks pretty good so far, but the title art that I see everywhere was alittle off-putting to me. If the gameplay is indeed as they've shown, I'll be getting it.
Why do these channels always pretend to get hyper up by announcements as such as this one as if we didn't already get quite a lot of "Mana" games (mostly remakes but new games made from scratch nonetheless) in the last few years, and none actually ever lived up to the reputation of this series... This game just looks really similar to the last ones we got... Don't get your hopes too high. SquareEnix has never fallen short of disappointments for the last decade.

@@AnaverdGaiden yes and no. they said it will tie in with "advent children movie" well in that, we see zack and aeris finally together, but in the after life. which makes me think- aeris and zack will survive their "previous deaths" zack at the battle against shinra (which has been shown already), and sephi, doesnt want her to enter the lifestream and convince the planet to fight for humanity ... and this time instead try to "capture her", I think. I think both aeris and zack will take sephi down and perish while doing it in the last game of the trilogy.
@@quezcatol I think what's more likely is that Square is trying to make the ultimate piece of fanservice drivel, so the final game is going to involve Sephiroth coming to Cloud and being like "Cloud... we must team up to defeat a common enemy. There's a super space monster that chased JENOVA to this planet and was the reason she came here in the first place, and now it's coming here to finish the job... If we don't work together, then Jenova will die and your planet will be destroyed". Then we'll get a "badass" shot of Cloud, Sephiroth, Zack, and Aerith all on the same team, facing off against some super monster. It may sound ridiculous and stupid, but so was the plot of FFVII Remake Part 1 so it honestly wouldn't surprise me.
@@quezcatol Oh, I meant that'll probably happen in Remake Part 3, not 2 xD But yeah, Remake Part 1 was pretty bad (SUPER padded out, slow and tedious gameplay, bland visuals, bad story, etc etc) so I really have no hopes for Part 2. I feel like if you removed the expensive budget and the nostalgia from it, it'd flop like Square's other recent American pandering action games like Stranger's of Paradise, Forspoken, and Valkyrie Elysium.

This already sounds a lot like Shimomura's work, so its looking good. Her work on Legend is one of my favorite OSTs of all time.

That main character is rocking some very familiar clothes, looks heavily inspired by Randi from Secret of Mana.
I was so happy to see it wasn’t a mobile game. Was even more happy to see how amazing it looks. Cannot wait.

Why do these channels always pretend to get hyper up by announcements as such as this one as if we didn't already get quite a lot of "Mana" games (mostly remakes but new games made from scratch nonetheless) in the last few years, and none actually ever lived up to the reputation of this series... This game just looks really similar to the last ones we got...
Don't get your hopes too high. SquareEnix has never fallen short of disappointments for the last decade.
I hope it will be multiplayer, but it looks like it's going to follow Trials of Mana.

I'd love splitscreen multiplayer. They could definitely do it, but for some reason companies hate including that kind of thing nowadays

See, that's what I was thinking too. Either that or maybe it'll be announced officially in a new Nintendo Direct? I think it'd be foolish not to drop it on the current Switch though, with that crazy high install base, you know? But time will probably tell.

Good, if more games start passing on the Switch, maybe it'll force Nintendo to finally release a new console. I'm dubbing it the Super Switch. Switch 2 makes no sense, Nintendo doesn't number their consoles.
Yeah this was big hype for me but... that ff7 rebirth trailer ending with Aeris praying as Sephi feathers lands on her... they really wanna push that - what is gonna happen this time?

@@AnaverdGaiden yes and no. they said it will tie in with "advent children movie" well in that, we see zack and aeris finally together, but in the after life. which makes me think- aeris and zack will survive their "previous deaths" zack at the battle against shinra (which has been shown already), and sephi, doesnt want her to enter the lifestream and convince the planet to fight for humanity ... and this time instead try to "capture her", I think. I think both aeris and zack will take sephi down and perish while doing it in the last game of the trilogy.
@@quezcatol I think what's more likely is that Square is trying to make the ultimate piece of fanservice drivel, so the final game is going to involve Sephiroth coming to Cloud and being like "Cloud... we must team up to defeat a common enemy. There's a super space monster that chased JENOVA to this planet and was the reason she came here in the first place, and now it's coming here to finish the job... If we don't work together, then Jenova will die and your planet will be destroyed".
Then we'll get a "badass" shot of Cloud, Sephiroth, Zack, and Aerith all on the same team, facing off against some super monster. It may sound ridiculous and stupid, but so was the plot of FFVII Remake Part 1 so it honestly wouldn't surprise me.

But yeah, Remake Part 1 was pretty bad (SUPER padded out, slow and tedious gameplay, bland visuals, bad story, etc etc) so I really have no hopes for Part 2. I feel like if you removed the expensive budget and the nostalgia from it, it'd flop like Square's other recent American pandering action games like Stranger's of Paradise, Forspoken, and Valkyrie Elysium.
