I've been so busy lately, I haven't been able to play much this patch. I'm excited for your recap of the narzissenkreuz quest, I really tried to understand what was going on but damn... I was so confused the entire time lol
I love that they personified a black hole as a whale. It makes it really fun to really lean into all the astrological imagery. The twins being a binary star pair, which (I believe?) end up with the stronger star (the one with greater "will") defeating/consuming its twin at the time when they "will be reunited." And if the Abyss twin were to learn of their fate, they might dip into any power that might give them a chance to avoid being the one to be consumed, like trying to become a black hole themselves, or something.
Whoa! If the Archons did have a place where their real bodies are kept, I'd imagine it would be Celestia. That makes the pantopticon image of Celestia _really_ creepy, thinking of Zhongli's and Venti's real bodies in there, trapped on their thrones, only able to leave in one false form or another, like Venessa entering as a human, and only as a ghostly falcon leaving it (if that is actually Venessa). And if they are physically bound to their thrones, it makes sense that nuking Focalors' would necessarily kill her.
Fontainians have no idea of contraception is not the lore I imagined I'll get 😂😂😂😂

54:07 I would love to see the next story from the Abyss sibling’s perspective. We can travel through the world we know, but from the “other side” so to speak, with new challenges and puzzles and characters because it’s technically in the past. It would also be so cool to see Teyvat pre-archon war, or during the Archon war, it would give us a ton of new bosses and fun lore to explore! Of course, if it is set in the future, that could also be super interesting depending on the current story’s conclusion.
That would be so awesome. I mean, just imagine it: switching out Paimon for DAINSLEIF as travelling companion? HECK YEAH

Seeing some Native American rep that isn't just set in a history movie or drama will be nice, every other culture seems to get a wide variety but it feels like we don't, and I'm not counting sci-fi movies where the alien species at most has clothing that resembles a particular culture.
I don't even care about the skin color thing, as long as music, culture and things about the people are represented well then I'm happy.
Hopefully they’ll do that with natlan although it’s skewing more South American than North American so I’ve heard
Growing up in the American southwest it’d be dope as hell if in Natlan we had villages that were based off the Anasazi cliff dwelling or off the Hopi and Zuni Kachina’s. I feel like North American indigenous tribes get hardly any representation, it’d be cool if Mihoyo incorporated some of their stuff into Natlan.

I think that the way Focalors died is why there was no remnants, she obliterated herself with her own power, she completely expended her own power to achieve that there was no power left to cause any harm or influence after her death
About the Sovereigns being stronger than the Archons: I thought that was obvious? I mean, Neuvillette says he has the absolute control over all waters in Teyvat, which implies that he'd overrule any other person's attempt to control it, no? And if Azhdaha really is the Geo Dragon, Zhongli admitted that without Azhdaha's help he wouldn't have been able to defeat him. And Nahida couldn't fight Apep either. So even in their weakened states, the dragons are stronger than the Archons, right?
So the Sovereigns must be *considerably* stronger than the gods. Like, just a thought.😅
the expand on that, it’s said that capitano may be stronger than an archon and is willing to ‘throw his hat’ into the ring of natlan, presumably for the gnosis. if the gnosis is still held by the pyro archon and capitano is willing to just fight for it instead of negotiating, i think it’s very possible that capitano may be a soverign in disguise, similar to neuv. moreover, if the theories about seelies being vishaps are true, and if columbina is a seelie, it would mean that at least a couple of the strongest/highest ranking harbingers are just vishaps, and that lines up with 1. the motivation to fight the heavenly thrones and 2. their strength being near to azdaha, apep, neuv

That's an interesting point to raise, but I don't really agree.
Neuvillette does say he has absolute control over Hydro, but that is only after the authority held by the Hydro Archon is given back to him, and given we have no instance of Focalors manipulating the element at all, let alone Neuvillette declaring any kind of veto on the action, that evidence is null and void.
As for Zhongli and Azdaha, Zhongli mentions: ''A thousand years ago, Azhdaha attacked The Chasm. I tried to obstruct him, fighting him tooth and nail down the length and breadth of the mine. Finally, I brought him down, and sealed him underground,' meaning he was clearly capable of putting up more than just a fight; though, then again, he does also say that he'd struggle to confront him at full strength later - but this is basically assuming both were in their prime, and not that only the dragon was weakened.
Venti, meanwhile, loves being the little misterious musical man he is, along with Dvalin - we don't even know if the guy's the Anemo Sovereign or a random overgrown Vishap, or just an Elemental Dragon, so nothing to say there.
As for Nahida and Apep, we really have no confirmation, but it's a lopsided confront to make at all. You'd be comparing a dragon that has ''been storing elemental power for centuries,' to a godling that is gnosi-less and has barely regained her freedom, let alone the devotion of her people - faith, and thus - power.
I've not watched Ashikai's VOD yet, but I do believe you are underestimating our best actress in Fontaine, Mr. ceo of Geo and madam radish :). At the very least, I doubt the Sovereigns would be considerably stronger than a fully fledged Archon while weakened, but there's hardly anything to support this thought of mine - just like the opposite sadly. Praying for the day hyv decides to be more... conclusive, with their lore, and perhaps prove me wrong.
Very interesting Ashikai's theory of the twins in 3:00:40 . Could it be that our sibling tried to save the world but in a solo hero perspective, doing it all by him/herself and then lost, only to be triggered and turn to the Abyss side, while we are being the hero bringing people all together and having the end of the "power of friendship" thing ? haha

I'm trying to keep up and understand the lore, but some thought just popped up to my head today - if authorities of Seven Souvereigns were given to Archons, does that mean that authority of Dragon King Nibelung is also in someone's possesion? Is that even a thing in his case? I don't know, I was just wondering... If it's explained somewhere then sorry, I didn't catch that.

On the topic of Furina applying hydro when she uses her Arkhe attack:
Yes, this is intentional. The game applies 0 gauge units of hydro when you use Furina's Arkhe ability. This has the effect of being able to trigger monuments and Romatine flowers but not get anything wet (you can't even put out torches with it).
This is a quality of life feature to go along with her Arkhe switching ability to make her convenient in the overworld to solve puzzles. At the same time you can't use this ability to apply more hydro than her Salon members can to enemies making her a strictly off-field hydro applicator. Using her onfield with a hydro infusion is reserved for her C6, so they wanted to wall that privilege off for whales 😅
do u think because theres been 3.5 cycles and 4 decenders the decenders are the end of a cycle? like a “decender” is just that and thats y the twin isnt a decender because they dont END end the cycle like were gonna do?

silly design note, the golden wolflord literally has some of Azdaha's drops in his design.... and the Wolf of the North has some very Dvalin and vishapy elements to this design. Just something i've noticed
The fact that Lisa has had nearly no involvement with us going to Sumeru is an absolute tragedy.
I also find it a little weird that everyone considers Wanderer Ei's son when she *made* him, akin to how a human would make a robot. He was meant to be more of a tool than a child or sentient creature. He has since created a personality but I believe when he was discarded he was still just a blank unmoving object according to the lore.
Consider Focalors and Furina like yin and yang Kurama. Originally the a single being but split into two personalities along the yin/yang chakra divide. But the power distribution is more like mizu bunshin. That was my initial impression but I was expecting a reunification in the end like Kurama. But alas that was not the case.
Maybe Natlan is based on the legend of the 5 suns. It fits like a glove.

I was fairly certain the people of Fontaine were just oceanids following the Vache case. I thought they basically spelled it out for us with only people of Fontaine being affected by the water and all Vache's victims became an oceanid. Thought it was odd how few people seemed to put it together like I did. I've been working far too much recently to really see what people were saying on it. Wasn't really suprised at all by the reveal in this update as I really thought it we really had all the pieces already.
Guys i think i figured out what paimon is!!
She was made to store our powers when the sustainer took them.
Here are my reasonings:
She has the symbol of omni-element. Our original element is also omni-element. When we interact with all the elements, we will have it back.
The whole goddess paimon story and what the melusine said about paimon’s thread goes up in the sky makes me believe that she might be made from the sustainer herself.
Like scaramouche. He was made by raiden shogun. He has divinity and his own consciousness.
Like him, paimon has fragments of divinity and her own consciousness because she doesn’t know what she is nor where she came from. It’s almost like she was created for the traveler.

I was wondering this for awhile now. Dainsleif has met up with us(traveler) in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Sumeru. Is there a reason why we never met up in Inazuma? I know that the Chasm thing was during the Inazuma patch, but the fact is that Inazuma is a nation just like all the others so....any thoughts?

I wanna like Star Rail but it feels so disjointed to me! Go to Herta station, now to Jarilo, now go to the Xianzhou, now back to Herta to talk to someone real quick, now back to Jarilo for an unrelated thing, now to the Xianzhou for a festival episode... I was really hoping we'd get more stuff like the vidyadhara arc which to me had a good balance of plot, lore and character development, but the new stuff just didn't hit. Hopefully it finds its legs like Impact and Genshin have but man do I not have the time...
Could it be possible that the abyssal twin was the 3rd descender it’s just Celestia or some other factor obscured their fate from Irminsul so that the traveller was unaware. It’d make sense why they said what they said last we saw them

If MHY does go with a fair-skinned woman for the Pyro Archon i do hope they at least get creative with the reason. I personally wouldn't mind as much if it's clear in her design that they are drawing inspiration from Meso-american gods of death and she looks more like a living skeleton than a person
It's simple, not all people in Latin America are black or brown-skinned, many are white as well. It won't really be a problem, only for people who have never set foot in Latin America and think that everyone eats tacos.

It makes me sad that you quit Star Rail, but keep this in mind: Star Rail is still new, and that could be why you get the impression that the lore isn't connected, because it's still fresh. Herta Space Station is our home base that we keep returning to, which introduced us to the Express, while Belobog was just a test run so we got to understand the nature of the Stellaron problem with some easter eggs. It's like the HI3 story, just that the tutorial mission introducing you to the Honkai is Belobog and the Xianzhou is when you get trapped in the 2nd eruption and Fu Hua and Otto betray you out of nowhere. A soft start before things get really crazy.
The story basically starts on the Xianzhou, as it was a major location where we spent several patches being introduced to future plot points via Dan Heng's backstory in the Quintet, and our relationship with Kafka. The overall story may seem unrelated on the surface but there's a reason why Dan Heng's entire existence was an excuse for us to meet Blade and later Jingliu. And why every major story detail and character involves Jingliu in some way. Two of the masterminds behind the entire Xianzhou story, Jingliu and Luocha, were only revealed at the end. The Xianzhou was well-equipped to handle the crisis on their own, and Jingliu must've known that, so they had ulterior motives like she herself states to Jing Yuan. She also doesn't wish to destroy the Luofu despite bringing the Stellaron (and Phantylia?). Kafka chose to bring us there so that Jing Yuan would owe us a favor, not because the Xianzhou needed our help, possibly meaning that the "favor" could be tied to Blade, Jingliu and Luocha. Jingliu's already tied to every Xianzhou character, two major Aeons and had an open-ended story quest. They wouldn't spend a year slowly creating these threads just to abandon them, which means they will definitely be important later.
It may seem like a less lore-heavy game, but keep in mind that Star Rail releases story updates frequently like HI3 while Genshin drops one story-bomb every year. It also rewards exploration like Genshin in a smaller fashion, but with more frequent new areas.

Anyone who watched this stream, did the topic of Celestia (like what’s going on? Is it empty up there? Why hasn’t Celestia responded to literally anything that’s been going on recently?) come up at all? I’d love to know Ashikai’s thoughts on this topic. I plan on watching it myself but just thought I’d ask if anybody knows if she addressed it specifically.
I think an easy way to integrate Quantum and Imaginary is not to give reactions, but to make them modifiers to elemental auras that also cancel each other out to allow for the others application, kind of like how dendro and cryo can coexist but if it were for all elements. i.e Quantum increases extant auras and makes it so enemies dont take on new elements ala bennett / mona / Amber burst properties, Imaginary decreases the ceiling of an aura / prevents heavy aura whilst raising the floor on application.
so you could add Quantum to layla or diona to make them functional as a sole cryo applier for forward melt on units that add heavy pyro, or add an element to imaginary to ensure it decays rapidly and is inoffensive.
that would limit quantum and imaginary character design though, making quantum biased towards being DPH support or being a driver, or imaginary being persistent Sub DPS.
Wasn’t Egeria essentially made from the Primordial sea aka the sea that Neuvillette is a heart of? And if Neuvillette is Teyvat’s Hydro itself then he’s essentially Egeria’s father and thereby pure blooded Fontainians Grandfather?

Yes! The travelor is the spearhead or focal point of bringing all people’s together for expressing good will and unity. Yes. The Khaenri’ahns are too proud and egotistical to do what the Traveler must do. I believe the Khaenri’ahns (the Jester and Dainslief) tried to manipulate and control Lumine and it was not working out and things did go wrong! Lumine does manage to get away from their control and I’m thinking, somehow the Wanderer triggered her to the better.
I’ve been thinking that the dragons represent pre-colonial cultures and peoples. And with Natlan being a “land of dragons,” I think the historical references can be interesting.
A big part of the history of Meso and South American specifically is the idea of mixing European and Indigenous bloodlines (in an attempt to erase native culture but still), so I do think that the dragons evolved to be more humanoid, and “mixed” in with the other humans.
Do I think it’s potentially problematic to depict indigenous people as non-humans? Yes, but I honestly see them taking this route.

I’m already really excited for natlan because of its potential precolonial north and south american inspiration as there’s not a lot of quality indigenous representation out there but I’m also really excited to see how they do the african inspirations as well because in media there’s not a lot of representation for us either that isn’t problematic at its roots other than black panther off the top of my head, though because of the wide variety of cultures in the nation and the fact that it could be mixing whole continents together has me weary so I just hope they learn from sumeru and do our communities right 😭
my problem with star rail is the opposite haha. i think we stay in one place a lot. we are the trailblazers with a space train, we should pop in a world solve main stuff and go. I am so glad we are seemingly over with luofu. imo star rail shouldnt be focusing so much in a single worlds lore. luofu was SO much like who even remebers all these factions and stuff.

I was wondering, do Neuvillette and Furina have actual romantic implications in lore? I personally do not ship them (and I won't either way) nor did I interpret their dynamic as romantic in any way but I was just wondering if I might've missed something in the lore that had any minor/major indications, since I really didn't see it.

Simple explanation: Letting them react between each other creates energy that can be used to power machines, basically electricity. The reaction between them destroys those two energies as far as I understand it and cannot be used indefinitely. That's also the reasons mecha shut down when you use the other half of the energy, because their own power source get's disrupted for a moment.

The only way I see light(???) and dark(abyss? quantum?) being added is if they're very disconnected from the current elements... Think like how geo only crystallizes electro/pyro/cryo/hydro, or anemo only swirls electro/pyro/cryo/hydro, or heck, dendro only reacting with electro/pyro/hydro.
Light and dark would have to have a reaction with each other, of course, and then maybe a "universal" reaction (like crystallize/swirl) with all or a few of the preexisting elements. Finally, a Geo buff, surely! [jokes]
Yes hoyo said they won't add more elements, but this is a live service game, so everything is subject to change. But I don't forsee it EVER being another dendro where different elements get different reactions (electro gets quicken, pyro gets burning, hydro gets bloom).
also, on the "Neuvillette could revive the dissolved people" point... He POSSIBLY could but... That would be committing the very same sin that Egeria committed (creating humans without permission). Even if he wanted to bring back those that were lost, it would be a very unwise choice.

@34:15 “I hope this nation (Natlan) is the largest nation” - there is very little likelihood that this nation will be the largest. Historically, Mihoyo has consistently mixed multiple cultures together into the same area, and most of the nations have been of relatively similar size. Not only will there not be a larger area to represent these separate cultures (I do expect some attempt at slightly separate regions with their own specific characteristics, as portrayed in every other nation), but based on past examples, multiple cultures will be wildly mixed together to an almost insulting degree. I believe Ashikai’s wish here is fueled by copium and would be willing to bet a large sum of money irl against this overly hopeful speculation
