  • Finished up a day with friends, as we spent the day boating and swimming out of Seaford, VA. We then went to Yorktown Pub for dinner and finished up the day walking out to the dock to check out the Tall Wooden Sailing Ship "Kalmar Nyckel" which was tied up at the dock. We had a great day and saw this majestic ship during the sunset on the water.

Definitely must have been a fun day. Beautiful sunset. I have not been to Yorktown since I was a little kid. I need to get out there with the fam and check it out. That ship is NICE! They did a magnificent job building it. It looks very authentic. A beautiful ship. Do they give tours or take people out sailing on it? Man I can't even imagine sailing across the ocean in today's modern vessels so its really hard to fathom those folks back in the day who set out in these kinds of ships, many of them perhaps not even knowing where they were going or what they might find if they even made it. Incredible.

It was a great day indeed, boating and swimming, playing volleyball in the water on the sandbar, surely doesn’t get much better. The ship and sunset just ended the day in beautiful way with the sunset. Yes, and they do give tours and take people out on the ship, but it was too late for us to do that. It was there for a week until Sunday, they said they come every year, the week after Harbor Fest. As you say, to imagine what those early sailors felt is hard to grasp. Some of those battles they had with these ships with their cannons and such, goes back to the Revolutionary War which was fought right there in the waters off Yorktown. The last major battle was fought there, when we gained our independence from Britain.
