The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian, inspired by a classic piece of Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto N°2 in C Minor).
Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that brought Celine Dion to WW fame). He is also now the producer of Dimash for his US career.
When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics.
Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels).
One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests:

- Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US),

Regarding Jackie Evancho, and at the request of Jackie's parents who found the original lyrics were not a good fit for a young girl, Lara rewrote Broken Vow in french as "Imaginer" with a complete different meaning.
This is why Lara is my all time favorite performer. Simply no comparison.
Once again we can enjoy Lara's so beautiful strong velvet voice and stunning performances.
Lara's appearances on stage are always simple. Simple clothes, a minimum of makeup, a minimum or mostly no jewelry, no flashy fingernails. Purely natural. No background dancers and so on. All you get as an audience is her unique amazing velvet lyrical soprano voice of 4.1 octaves and her emotional connection with the audience .
You mentioned how you noticed the "emotion" Lara put into this song ( which she indeed wrote ) .......... in musical terms the phrase Lara Fabian translates to " emotion personified ". She literally LIVES each song she performs. For me, and many multitudes of others, Lara Fabian is the Ultimate Artist.

I believe that she, Lara, wrote this song after her fiance left her, so then hence the strong emotions conveyed here.
I am 67 years old and a musician too, mainly a pianist and organist, and I have decided to order a copy of this song suited for piano and start playing it too.
By the way, this is probably the most beautiful song ever written. All credit to our dearest of vocalists, Lara Fabian.

Thanks for your great reaction to this Lara Fabian song. I have followed Lara since the 90's. She is a once in a lifetime talent. She was never given a fair chance in the states, but became an international star. She sings with such emotion, and tells us a story every time.

Lara did write the lyrics to this song and when she introduces it in concert says it is probably her favourite in the English repertoire. It's been covered by a few people, including Josh Groban on one of his albums, and Barbra Streisand in concert. She writes in French, Italian, English and Spanish. She sings in over a dozen languages.

Yes Lara did write the lyrics to this song. But, as amazingly is the fact that the music in this song was written by the composer that broke up with her. Yes the same guy she talks about in this song is pianist/composer Walter Afanasieth was used to also be Mariah Carey's pianist in the 1990s co-writer on many of Mariah Carey's biggest ballads.
